Gents, thanks for showing us the reality of owning a Chevy Spark. I had a great opportunity to pick up one of these Sparks for a decent price. But it seems they are just riddled with bad experiences. I really want to like it.
I'm wondering what year this spark was made and what the mileage was on this tran in it they're replacing in this spark if these guys wound give the answer, I'd be nice for us to be able to be knowing what it is on it for us. I'm also wondering how much it cost that customer to be getting that new tran these guys put in it??
My local mechanic in central southwest Virginia priced a transmission change at $6,000. That is on a car valued at $3,350. Usually, on average, 1/3 of the cost is parts (in this case the transmission itself so $2,000) and 2/3 labor.
I absolutely have been had. I just picked my car up from the dealership replacing my transmission and 3 days later, the e-brake line was disconnected. They said it’s not related. True?

Locally, Central Southwest Virginia, the whole job would cost $6,000 on a car valued at $3,335 so guess I got a really big lawn ornament now. A rough draft on pricing is 1/3 parts (in this case the transmission itself and $2,000) and 2/3 labor.
These cars are the very definition of "a lemon". Right out if the factory, they were destined to fail just after any Chevrolet warranty expires. Keeping politics out of this as much as possible, I think this model and a lot of GM models are a direct result of the bail out of 2008. Honestly, with my German heritage and big German hands, I think this is a job for much smaller hands. Either that or a lot of skinny tools and mechanic language (aka cussing).
Can't dwell on the past but you can learn from it. Rule of thumb, if a transmission is made from Jatco (Japan Automotive Transmission Company), which sadly most are, run for the hills, especially 2008 or later. This is one case where Japan does not make a good product. Toyota apparently get their transmissions, which are a better made CVT, from another company. Can't place it in my mind right now but a five or six letter name that starts with a N. The Camery, with good maintenance, would last another 200K/250K miles
what is poor maintenance? manufacturer doesnt even recommend transmission fluid change. its good for the life of the vehicle. So custoemr was prob towing stuff with it. Or it was over 100k miles.But none of that was stated. what was the mileage? @@brandonwelsh2743

Scan tool, you need a GM TECH2 with the right card. Go into Transmission and clear all adaptions.

Where is the vacuum mod located? I think mine needs replaced.
I thought you can only use ac delco cvt fluid
because it does not show the temperature of my Chevrolet spark 2019
Generally , How much is the labor ? It is not an easy task. Do you recommend LKQ?
8.2 hours labor. We've used LKQ and have had no issues...so far😬

Well after watching this my gfs spark is scrap now i cant do this and its way to expensive at a shop.
Can you use the tcm that’s was with the new transmission to avoid reprogramming the tcm
No. It needs to be programmed to VIN of the car.

I have a almost new spark could have got a Toyota Camry with 100,000 miles for the same about $15,000 should have went with the Camry

I would definitely regret because recently my 2017 CVT is gone at 135K miles.
