Much props to all of the male and female CNA, LVN / LPN, RNs out there. You’re appreciated! Question: I’m trying to figure out what are most affordable LVN / LPN (accredited) programs online. And what is the range of cost and time to complete the programs? Please help with finding any courses (especially specialty) in our field, that can be done completely online? I’m a black man, no kids, own my house & car w/ no mortgage & no car note. I already am FT in property management w/o college. I’m also only work weekends and sleep 3-4 hours. I’m pursuing a career in Travel TC ICU ER ENP. And I admit that I’ll need help. The route plan is: get my CNA, work in a hospital for 200 hours, get my LPN /LVN, work that in a hospital for a year, then take a bridge course with dual ASN & BSN while studying for a specialty in ER. My studying ethics is close to Neo plugging in & learning kung fu, and Imma beast when it comes to test taking, so I want prep for my HESI, ATI, NCLEX right now while I save about $12,000-$15,000 for all of my tuitions, online books & certifications. My saving averages about $2K to $3K per month, so I should be test ready by the time I have the money. And whatever bread I make during my “clinicals” 400+ hours I will put towards my next tuition fee, which I believe is $23,000. I want to eventually post videos about my journey, because I haven’t seen anyone successfully pull this off. What do you think? Thank you! ❤
Hey it’s so great that you have a plan! That’s more than I had when I started nursing school. I would say if you are really passionate about the ER work there as a CNA, but don’t expect to make more than your making now. I don’t know where you live but try not to overpay for your CNA course. In terms of LPN there is no fully online courses but there may be a hybrid course in your area where you do your theory classes online and your clinical in person. The reason is because you need hands on nursing experience before you are able to go to a fully online bridge program. Once you get your LPN license, then you can get your RN online because you now have clinical experience as a nurse. I am currently a junior in a BSN program and I can’t stress enough how much I wish I did my pre reqs at a community college. So if I were you I wouldn’t enroll in a LPN-RN bridge program until you have done your GE classes at a community college it will save you so much! If you already did them pay attention to dates because as you may know sciences expire. I hope this helps, you got this!
@@bry2940 Thank you so much for your response. And yes, this has been very helpful; thank you! I get paid good already, so for me, the CNA is just the process that I’m assuming I need to take because I have no equivalent college. I have some college from John Jay & Devry but I don’t think it was enough to be used as accredited crossovers, because I didn’t complete either. I’m in NYC, and this is roughly what I found: $500-$2,000 CNA online programs. Hybrid LPN Courses. Oh, I understand. I just want to be able to keep working where I’m at while getting all of this done. I figured since my schedule is fri, sat, sun; they could work with me. pre reqs at a community college? GE? Can I just take these without being a full on undergrad? I’m trying to avoid loans like the plague! Pay attention to expiring dates. How long will they typically last? Where are you working on your BS program at? Are on on campus or online? What specialty / department do you want to pursue? Thank you for the motivation and inspiration!
@@maigematthews5620 I’m currently in CT but I’m from NY. I would say you will have to travel a little bit because in the city it tends to be expensive. For your CNA Don’t pay more that 1300 for it. Anything higher than that is not worth it for our area. Some hospitals have on site CNA schools where they pay you to take the course and then to work for them. ( only do that if you really like the hospital.) Also CNA is not a necessary requirement since you don’t need to be CNA in order to be a nurse but it may help you get back into the swing of things in terms of the structure of school and thinking like a healthcare professional. You don’t need a certain amount of CNA hours to apply to nursing. Working If you don’t need the extra income than CNA could be optional however the first few weeks of LPN school are usually a refresher of some of that information. It is possible to work full time while in nursing school, with discipline you will be fine. The weekend schedule that you have right now is perfect for getting you through school. The agency CNA work in NYC is hot right now so there is always money to be made if you go that route. LPN Look into Boces that is a 10-month LPN program in NY but it is very fast paced. Apply for many other programs because you are in a lucrative city where nursing is becoming very popular. When applying for any school or job in NYC never think that you are not good enough just remember there are a lotttt of people applying for the same school and the same position. The right school and the right position will be for you when the time is right. As you may know a hybrid course is when you do the lectures online and you only go to school for labs/clinical. If you are able to focus from home and consider yourself to be pretty decently independent with technology that may be your best option. Lpn can be very expensive. Try not to go over $35,000 because these schools will try to play with you. Always always apply for FASFA. (Financial aid) Every dollar counts. LPN-RN bridge There are so many bridge programs based out of NY that when your time comes you will have plenty of online options. Excelsior is one of the cost effective ones that I have seen. GEs/Community Colleges GE’s are general education classes. You will not need these until you are ready to bridge to RN. Same concept as CNA in terms of the fact that taking these classes will make you more marketable for schools but is not required so you could be wasting time if there are LPN schools that will accept you without it. If you wanted to go straight for your RN which is always another option then your GEs are what you would take prior to entering the program. GEs for nursing typically include English 101 Psychology 101 Anatomy and Physiology 1 and then 2 Microbiology Chemistry Lifespan Development Sociology Elective (music, film, jazz, etc) THESE VARY BY THE SCHOOL, SO DONT START THESE UNTIL YOU HAVE DECIDED on the RN program that you will choose. I can’t stress that enough. Always take those at a community college because since you will be taking these AFTER you are a LPN you should be able to pay for a community college out of pocket and transfer the credits to the institution where you will get your RN. Only science classes expire and depending on the state they expire every 5-7 years. I don’t have kids either, but for you with no kids t try to only have a loan for LPN school. It is possible for you to pay for your bridge and GE classes at a community college out of pocket. But don’t stress yourself out trying to. Do not go for dual ADN/BSN because some of those schools have a markup price due to convenience. Do a LPN-RN bridge and then apply to a hospital with your associates, and then once you get hired let then pay for your BSN. I am in CT, doing my BSN. No I don’t live on campus. I am pursuing pediatrics.
I have a suggestion... if u are making good money now why not just skip the cna and lpn part and try to get into a community College which is 2 years and become a r.n. The amount of time it will take to be a cna or lpn.. u could also be on waiting list if school has a long waiting list... when I started I had no medical experience. And started college with prep courses. Did well in my prereq and applied to asn program got right in. The next semester.
