Good lord, that's a monster! And the Dutch oven is pretty big, too. 😉
I'll just assume you are talking about me and not my cute daughter! :)
@UncleScottsKitchen Monsters can be cute! Haven't you seen "Monsters Inc."? And monsters are always pretty awesome...
Can’t believe nobody asked if the baby fit in the staub
He could absolutely do a baby bath in that giant Staub!
That 13qt dutch oven is insane. And now I need one. Thanks Uncle Scott!
Wow that's huge!!😮
Stunningly big!
Mabel's got her eye on that wineglass! I'm sure she's getting Union wages!
She's walked off the job twice this week already!
I make popcorn with a Franklin whirly pop using Amish Country butter flavored coconut oil (probably 3-4 Tbsp for 1/4 cup of Amish Country medium yellow popcorn kernels) and when it's popped I top it with a bit of their buttery flavored topping because I can't be arsed to clarify butter for topping popcorn.
I'd like to upgrade to a Popsmith popper soon, but I keep telling myself there will be a sale.
I have a question about the Staub 13 qt.: how even is the heat distribution? Is the bottom so large the burner heats it unevenly? Or does the construction spread out the heat fairly evenly?
I've only cooked in it once, but I used my copper diffuser underneath and it kept everything nicely distributed. I have had that problem with my other big dutch ovens when I try to do a slow long simmer and have the gas burner very low... I sometimes get a hotspot right over the burner ring that can scorch soup in one spot. For a big dutch oven on gas, I think a diffuser is key.
Sure is a cute baby
She gets that from me!
I rarely use my 12 qt Lodge. My 5.5qt Made-In enamel is my work horse!
They say the 5-quart range is the most popular size... probably the most versatile.
@@UncleScottsKitchen Makes sense. It's perfect for the wife and me. My 4 qt Staub comes out when I cook things just for me :)
I've popped in the Falk 3.2... great for popcorn!
When tariffs go down, there will be boats crossing the great lakes in the middle of the night from Canada to the US - sort of like the rumrunners of old.
RFK should know all about that!
I think the trick with resting a spoon on the Staub lid is for when you're not using the lid for cooking! Since in that case the lid is otherwise awkwardly doing nothing on the countertop or on an unused burner, you might as well use it as a spoon rest! No heat to worry about in that case and really not a big deal to wash up at the end of the cook (just give the lid a quick wipe with a dishcloth)!
its a witches cauldron.. 24lbs jees. weight it full of water for me please uncle scott
Thanks!
Welcome!
Almost 24 pounds?! Dear lord that is a huge dutch oven! Mable could take a bath in that thing! 🙂I went to Williams-Sonoma and Surlatable today looking to see if either store had the Lodge 3 quart USA Enameled dutch oven on display. No luck. Both stores had plenty of Le Creuset and Staub of course. WS even had select pieces on sale. I could order the Lodge online, but I wanted to see it, hold it, and compare it to the two French brands. But I guess both stores have limited shelf space.
LOL, that thing is huge! And this from a guy who makes chili in a 9.5 quart all the time.
If you had to choose one frying pan, would it be the Mauviel m’cook or de Buyer Affinity?
My bet is he’ll say the Falk copper pans he raves about.
If those two are the only choices, they are very very even in terms of cooing performance. I have the 12.6" De Buyer and the 10" Mauviel so I can't make the exact comparison but they are very close. Both five ply and fancy French design. I think it would come down to which handle design you like better. The Mauviel is thinner but a little more classic looking while the De Buyer is a little beefier. If money is no object, the Demeyere Proline Atlantis 12.6" is a step up from all other stainless pans I have tried, but it costs a pretty penny more than the M or DB.
@@UncleScottsKitchen on that very trustworthy information I think I might go for the DB when they launch their official UK website.
Thanks.
I sure did jump on those staub sales 😊
Awesome! What did you get?
I have a heavy cast aluminium no stick pot. Does the job just as well and it cost about £20. I've had it for years...All the best from the UK.
The big Staub actually came from Amazon UK... hey from across the pond!
Whirley Pop Stainless Steel version is fantastic for stove top popcorn and especially good for making kettle corn.
I used to use a pressure cooker to make popcorn. It worked rather well.
What is the benefit of a pressure cooker? Seems like it would take longer.

It was the only pan I owned in college that had a lid. I put it in the stove and popped away.
i love fried okra, being from oklahoma, its a common side dish. I loved pickle okra as well, was one of the things I would always grab on the buffet at western sizlin'
Another Okie on a niche channel, that's crazy!
I oil my carbon steel pans after every use when stored , never had any odd smell but they get used a lot during the week
Aren't you from the south? If so I can't believe you put beans in chili lol.
The two 7 qt Staubs are under the Christmas tree so I unfortunately haven't gotten to use mine yet.
From Alabama and we've always put beans in. I think the Texas peeps are anti-bean. I didn't consider them "south" but now Texas A&M and Texas are in the SEC, so I guess they are now.
@@UncleScottsKitchen I'm from Virginia, and my family has never put in beans :)
@@UncleScottsKitchenI’m from Texas. Beans extend the humble dish and add great texture!
Check out the sprout! 👶🏻
Growing like a weed!
Finex use to be its own company. Lodge bought them out. They still design in Portland but lodge builds them. I’m not 100% sure but I think they do the handles in Portland. But I could be wrong on that one .
Finex pans are cast by lodge in Tn and then sent to finex for machining.
That makes sense! Where did you find that out? I need to get the info before I do a review.
I was wrong, apparently Lodge sends it “offsite” not to finex in Oregon.

If there is a 50% tarriff on an item that costs $100 for the business to buy which they sell at $150, means that the business now has to buy the item at $150 and sell it at a higher cost, like say $200, to offset the tariff. So the consumer will pay the difference.
I guess the theory is that if the tarriffs pay for more of the governments expenses and that allows lower taxes n taxpayers then the consumer will have more money to buy the products even though they are higher priced, but who knows if that will actually work.
@@UncleScottsKitchenit’s been tried before - see Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930. It was just as dumb, misguided, and catastrophic then as it will be now.
@@UncleScottsKitchenyou need to stop listening to to Trump. You’re 100% incorrect. Bye.
I have a 9" de buyer pan . It's well loved and the cooking surface is well seasoned & black .
It will slide pretty much anything .
The only thing I don't like is the sides are very discolored and very unattractive . I would like for the sides to look like the bottom , but , it cooks too good to reseason it .
Replace that GoPro with a DJI action camera.
Might be some Christmas sales... might just do that
Okra is a freaking weed. Gag
But if you bread it and fry it, DEEEELICIOUS!
Have you seen the unbelievable Soy Türkiye GNT26 Silver Pan?
My god...
I'm all for a better food supply but I'd prefer it not come with a side order of polio, measles, tuberculosis, pertussis, etc.
You'll need to cook your food well-done!

Considering most of those are easily fought off, one in particular is 98% asymptomatic, I'll take my chances with those over the highest cancer rates we've ever experienced, the highest SIDS rates among the Western world, and rampant autoimmune diseases.
I find it funny people like you can praise the murder of a guy because health insurance, but continue to support companies that could make a safer product but won't because they don't want to lose their patent. (The MMR would be objectively safer and higher efficacy if separated out into single dosed vaccines, but merk and GSK don't want to lose money.)
So funny. I had to quote it! 😊😂😊
Whichever way it works, the end purchaser pays the tariff. The wholesaler passes it on to retailers and retailers pass it on to you.
I would buy everything you want from abroad before January 20th. Just in case…
Getting food safety regulations from a guy who eats roadkill and has a dead brain worm to show for it isn’t the big flex he thinks it is. 😅
Drones…some kind of distraction
Tariffs will hurt the American people and make the rest of the world very angry…speaking as a Canadian and don’t like the behaviour we are seeing…..eh…”sorry”
Cute baby. You are a lovely patient dad
Food supply…making it better…yes. But more important, cook. Junk doesn’t get added to food you cook unless you add it in.
IMO😁
Lose the baby. Yes, she's absolutely gorgeous. You're a lucky Dad, but her presence makes your videos nerve wracking and difficult to watch what with the constant wrangling.
I agree. I don't come here to listen to babys crying.
I'm mainly here for Mabel. The cooking stuff is a nice plus.
Coincidentally, my wife says the same thing.
If I want to crank out videos and my wife is at work, Mabel has to make an appearance! I'm biased, but I think she's kind of cute too.
@@UncleScottsKitchen She‘s a cute button!
This video has great potential but in reality it's extremely annoying and you can probably guess why.
