Never never minded getting blood work done or going to dentist. I'm nearly 61 & when in school getting shots I WAS the only 1 in my class WHO DIDN'T CRY. The nurses & docs told me I was such a good girl. I was so proud of me!!!!

As far as blood draws growing up I sometimes had a few people holding me down, and even a threat of security being called. One thing that never helps is when you’re a kid and you’ve got the person drawing who is in a hurry and going off on a power trip.

Of course any kid would be nervous and scared about getting stuck with a needle. I don’t even remember when I got a blood test the first time. This was great though the second nurse explaining in detail what’s going on helps and comforting them.

As a patient who has to get blood drawn every six months…… Not to mention a hard stick, and sometimes Needs to have blood drawn from the hand versus the bend of the arm, the best thing to do aside from looking away from the Venipuncture site is to slowly inhale while the needle is being inserted, and slowly exhale through pursed lips, and repeat until the needle is removed. Also think about something enjoy, such as a fun activity, or going to the beach. For children who understand the concept of breathing, have them blow bubbles while getting blood drawn, Ivy stick, etc. Just some food for thought.

Needles aren't so bad. If you keep your arm nice and relaxed and still, you won't feel anything.

Take a shot every time she unwraps and rewraps the tourniquet. And says, "relax," or "keep your arm straight."
