I loved visiting here and Keysersberg on my way to Switzerland
The best place in the world to spend Christmas, every house every shop is illuminated and of course they have the Christmas market.
Very good video! Thanks. The Alsatians are meritorious for having preserved medieval German architecture far better than the Germans themselves did. German timberframe towns although countless, and charming have been somehow modernized and have lost their original feel. Alsatian towns should remind Germans how their Fachwerk towns once looked like. French attachment to tradition and to preserving the past has played a major role in making of Alsace a living gem.
There are also beautiful villages like that on the other side of the border, in the "Forêt Noire" (Black Forest) mountains. Small cities were not as bombed as the big ones, by the Allies in the WWII. So they remains nice. I lived more than 20 years in Strasbourg, and visited nice places on both side of the Rhein. But Riquewihr is without contest, a very beautiful little city.

@@TheLetsComment I know them like the palm of my hand. They are beautiful. But in general West German Fachwerk towns have introduced many modern elements in towns which could have otherwise preserved a more original look. I have been to nearly 100 Fachwerk towns in Germany and most have for instance changed windows, sometimes doors and even roofs that look obviously very modern. Alsatian towns have a more original untouched appearance..
@@teachedteach And these comically bright colors were something that people in the middle ages had access to? Does that look "untouched" to you?
@@TheLetsComment Well, medieval folks were quite a colourful lot although I admit the excess you find in Elsass is a bit over the top, but Germans did repaint with pastel colours lots of half-timbered houses as well, especially in Frankenland, Schwaben and parts of Baden Würtemberg where there are plenty of these towns. But colours is not a structural thing, inherent to the building itself so you can always revert those excesses. What is most damaging in Germany is the introduction of elements of architectural modernism in buildings that if it hadn't been for that would have remained absolutely magical. In Elsass, they preserved the structures, houses were kept as intact as possible, without that horrendous modernistic touch you see in German windows, tasteless shops below, and materials used in renovating those wonderful houses. Germany had the most beautiful traditional architecture in Europe before the last world war. What remained, mainly in middle sized towns and villages should have been spared from any modernistic innovation.

Je connai ce village il est à quelques kilomètres par chez moi en Alsace ces un des plus beau village de France, il est vraiment magnifique la première foi que j'y était c'était pour aider à un déménagement de quelqu'un et j'ai été bluffé par ce magnifique village très beau et chaleureux à visiter un vrai coup de coeur j'adhère je le kiffe 👍🏻💝 , pour moi le plus beau village que j'ai visité et vue de mes yeux 👍🏻💝
Stayed a few days in Ribeauville in 2017 and spent a wonderful time in Riquewihr, Eguesheim, Colmar, Chateau du Haut Koenigsburg and others. Fell in love with the area! Sadly may never get back because of this Covid nonsense! Thank you for posting brilliant memories, and BTW loved the Strasbourg one as well. Here's to many more.

Můj ty bože, to je nádherné město.. připadám si teď jako Alenka v říši divů.. ta nádherná architektura města je tak ohromující, že sem si místy připadala jako bych se vrátila zpátky v čase.. lidé co tam žijí se opravdu mají,že žijí v tak krásném místě.. doufám že moje cestovatelské toulky jednou zamíří i sem.. nádherné video..díky za tuto možnost náhledu
