I am an American of Greek descent and I wish the Greeks would build a new cathedral this grand and beautiful in Athens or Thessaloniki instead of hoping that Hagia Sophia will be returned to the church one day. Excellent job by the Serbian Orthodox church.

Can't lie to you, but personally I hope that Greece would grow multiple things in the country including economy, population and military(for negotiating power) in order to stop all incoming threats from Erdogan's regime, and to call for return the Eastern Thrace or just the Byzantine Architectures themselves back to Greece, to re-assemble them there somehow.
Okay I just love the Roman civilization, that's the thing.
BUT ! I agree with your idea too. Even if Greece would not receive anything returning from Turkey despite the Greek would have superiority in the future, growing economy military and population itself could rebuild the Byzantine architectures and cultures. Especially when Thessaloniki used to by the "Co-capital" of the Byzantine Empire alongside Constantinople after all.
I hope Greece would building its own Hagia Sophia one day too, a bigger, brighter, and newer one.

@Binsr Because in the 21st century there are still faithful people who would build and visit it, as much as you would a shopping mall.

The Hagia Sophia is just a building. It can be rebuilt elsewhere as a new building. Serbia has done just that.

Many Eastern Orthodox churches look similar.. in principle many follow same traditions like the altar has the sun rise from it (catholic churches are opposite)

eşsiz Ayasofya Camii'nin hiçbir yer benzeri olamaz. O bizim gözbebeğimiz. Her yıl İstanbula gidip orada namaz kılmak için bekliyorum. Ben Ayasofya'ya aşığım sonsuza kadar.

Not really, not insulting at all. St. Sava church is obviously and purposely inspired and influenced by Hagia Sophia.
