How To Use Google Nest Devices with Amazon Echo and Alexa

- You can connect your Amazon Echo to Google Home and enjoy some limited interoperability if you own both brands of devices in your home.
Set-up requires a few steps but once connected you can do things like review your Google Nest camera on Echo Show, get doorbell alerts on your Echo Dot, and even control your compatible thermostat.
In this video I go over the set-up and functionality of connecting your Amazon Echo devices to your Google Home, and some of the areas for improvement.

We have a living room Echo device on one Amazon account and I have an Echo device in my bedroom on my Amazon account. The living room has our Nest thermostat connected to it. For 2 years I have been trying to get my thermostate to work from my bedroom Echo, finally today after seeing this video I figured it out.

Very clear instructions. Of course, in my case, there is no Amazon Alexa skill to select for some random reason, so it doesn't work for me.
That's annoying! What country are you based in? I've found there are a lot of content restrictions in Canada

I did have to reach out to Amazon's customer support in the app chat to explain I couldn't see a lot of skills and they tweaked something behind the scenes. I'm very surprised you can't see it in Florida because the States usually get things first and exclusively for a lot of features.

@@tristanvarsovia This seems to be common feedback. Just to help troubleshoot, can I confirm you have both the Alexa app and Google Home app installed on the same device?
I find the Nest skill with Alexa is hit or miss which is unfortunate now that Google removed a bunch of skills like the cooking assistant. (I was hoping to upgrade my display to an Echo Show but really need/want my doorbell camera to work.)

I've seen this feedback quite regularly and I'm wondering why some users can see the options and some can't! It's a mystery but my set-up might help: I have both apps on my phone and I've logged in with the same Amazon/Google credentials and activated the Skill. At one point I did have to contact Amazon customer service as a lot of skills weren't available and they tweaked something on my account to enable access to the missing ones. Maybe there's a bug in the backend for most users?
I really like all the information. But I do not yet have either system, so the short views of the screens on the phone are not long enough for me to grasp what you are talking about. I had to keep stopping, rewinding, restarting the video. I imagine this applies to others, too, who are not familiar with the control programs.

Smart home haven't been working with my Google over a year

This is an odd one because you're not alone. Some people report not having the option while others do. I'm trying to find out why
When I tap service there is no Amazon Alexa skill
I fee viewers have reported the same bug. Just to confirm, have you installed the Alexa app too?

Hmmm... I'm trying to replicate and troubleshoot the issue. One step that I did have to perform was contacting Alexa Customer Support to help activate Skills in Canada. There was a bug stopping it. Do you have access to other skills? e.g. Philips Hue, etc.
