- Behold! The debut music video from Chicago's premier jazz-metal band, CONFLUX!
Stomping Grounds is the final track off of their debut EP, Spark, which has been called "a thrilling romp around a night club mosh pit."
The video was conceived, directed, produced, engineered, and everything else'd by David Katauskas. Those ridiculously awesome shots of wobbly bass strings? Yeah...all him...

Literally just typed "jazz metal" and got this. Pretty straight forward result.
Me too
I actually typed metaljazz (having just watched Rhythm of the Beast), and also got here...:-)
I typed "metal jazz" but well, so here I am. xD
I typed "jazz heavy"
lol same
typed jazz metal on youtube
not disapointed
Me too, I just tried what happens
Same lol
Hahahaha love internet.
same
Esteban Paz if it exists, there is a metal genre of it
I’ve always wanted to hear a metal and jazz style band the complexity of jazz with loud tunder beats and screaming guitars with funky bass and a smooth groove to the drums are the perfect combo
bro it began long ago.. black sabbath!
@@erickdraws9563 no ? ... maybe some prog and avant-garde but not black sabbath
@@jemball1880 lol is all i can say to that
cojum dip?
@@erickdraws9563 More like King Crimson in '69.
As someone that loves both jazz and metal, this is awesome! MOAR
I dig both, however, I am not feeling it with this genre. Hopefully, I am wrong about the genre, and it is merely this particular band... Or, song.
What happens when you combine my favourite genres? Apparently this.
GoldLight64 But does it djent?
jesus shaves Leave.
If you don't already know Mr. Bungle, look them up immediately.
lovesthedark Mr bungle are awesome!
@@merschavonia4745 they're the first that comes to mind when I think of jazz metal. Of course they completely defy classification because they spanned so many genres...but it was all incredible and influential.
Here in 2023. I did a Google search for Jazz Metal. Was not disappointed!
i looked up "jazz metal" out of pure curiocity, not being that into jazz, and not liking metal much at all. THIS GOES HARD
reminds me of king crimson but more jazz and more metal
Hide and Tweak listen "Ever Forthright"
The bass
This has no king crimson in it, what?
So like king crimson with more king crimson
thought this was a jojo reference.
Didn’t have the courage to search up Jazz Metal on youtube until now. Turns out i’m not the only one.
My God these guys are legit.
We used it at our dnd fight when mini-boss vampire tried to beat shit out of us. This composition is literally the BEST that could be suitable for the fight and only thanks to you I was able to carry out that fight so well, guys, your music is something. Of course, I knew that I loved jazz, but METAL JAZZ?! Guys, this is simply magical.
Im now getting into jazz fusion, and aside from some elements from some shred or progressive bands, didnt know jazz-metal was real. I like how it has very heavy dark tones even with the saxophone.
No freaking way he played the lick! Also the poly-tonality in this rocks!
Decent but the saxophone player didn't have to ALWAYS be making sound. Sorta took over and not in a good way.
+Jason Ellis probably more the mixings fault. just needs to be lowered a fraction so it doesnt over power.
i mean in alot of jazz sax does carry the piece. so i see whats trying to be convayed
I agree I think the mixing is just a bit off. I assumed the sax was also intended to fill the void without a singer often repeating very lyrical passages.
Ikr
Its the Jazz part
The mix is really janked out though
This is something you don't find in a normal day.
You guys are trully awesome with that sweet combination of jazz/metal.
You got a new subscriber.
***** You just have a different taste than mine.
People like songs that other people don't like. No big deal, you just have to deal with it.
if they should play with Atheist/Cynic... shall be cool xD
I found this on a not so normal day lol.
assholemon rofl ur name is assholemon xD
Nun Slayer Yep, a few people tend to notice it.
This is very strange.
Typical jazz
@@Jeff-lf6jc typical prog
the sax needs vitamins... so smooth and gentle... pretty melodic it lacks proper attack.
Perfect combination.
Both the jazz and metal .
this like hardcore return to forever.... its amazing
Erik Giovani Yeah but Return Forever make these guys sound average!
YOU JUST EARNED A NEW SUBSCRIBER! I LOVE JAZZ AND I LOVE METAL! JAZZ METAL IS AMAZING!!
Young Snake i recommend Thank You, Scientist. you won't be disappointed
Fred Durst Okay. But please don’t rap for this band...
Fred Durst how do you dare having your username? 😂😂😂
Me too :D
@@NatiAmos great, technical and à little perfection song. Early great band with symphonie.
This music is amazing! I would love to hear some metal vocals with this too!
Mordecai
2:47 is what youre looking for
This was way before it's time unfortunately, the world wasn't ready 🙏😓
Sax makes everything even better
just found this genre, I don't know how to respond
there is nothing to say its just too epic XD
yeah
I heard "the lick" in the sax solo - instant like.
I finally found a band that blends the genres well! I also have a band with a guitarist/vocalist (Me), drummer and sax. Good thing i know it's not impossible to blend the instruments.
This reminds me of Between the Buried and Me. Something that would be in the middle of one of their 15 minute songs.
Never thought the saxophone would work... but it totally fucking does!! great job!
+Evan Tisby Streetlight Manifesto. Random Hand. Russkaja. Fishbone. Enjoy :)
Connor - likes Heavy Metal
Hank - likes Jazz
Me - Ah yes my favorite genres in one.
Just amazing
It's Awsome that's jazz metal band!!!
Incredible.
Wow...... amazinggggg
Cool stuff! Greetings from Argentina!
Greetings from Brazil !!
OK, I'm flashed. I really love this!!
Wow.. This song it's very nice..
the sound is very interesting and playing very nice
This makes me want to spill someone's wine
Basslines here completely remind me of Cynic. Awesome.
this is about the coolest thing on youtube!
love this.
THe intro reminds me of Kalimba...
Exactly what I was looking for
walking few moments ago, thinking what if we mix jazz and metal, good start !!
It feels like the two styles are fighting over, and I love that! I love both genres, so this was a blessing for me.
Yeah!
12年前か!今出会った!最高やー!
stunning
THIS IS AWESOME!
Awesome!!
I love it
I wish more ppl know that
Such a fasinating music genre ..I LOVE IT!!
Awesome
This reminds me a little bit of the band "Haken", they're progressive metal. I don't know where the line is between genres, I don't know if Jazz Metal is considered a genre in itself, REGARDLESS I like how peppy and energetic this sounds. I'm going to have to look up more Jazz Metal thanks to this video. :)
I see jazz metal, I hit like.
sheeeet what a great combination! I love it!
I love this.
Wow
This sounds like Metal Slug's music :D
Is it jazz metal?
Just what i was longing for!!!
This guys have got swing, of course mixed with their metal sound
What a difficult mix of genres...can't imagine it's possible.. Kudos to u!! Talent 100%
so inspiring
awesome
This is what plays in the elevator to the underworld!
How do you take the blues out of metal, straight to jazz? This is interesting. Hearing the sax and electric guitar combined in a metal tone does something... Aside from the song itself, that's a combo I've never heard before. Maybe even 80's nostalgic Tim Capello from lost boys almost? i'd love to see it explored more. I just wish mainstream hip-hop was this experimental.
I think it’s time for the gig part II.
Oh, some Deadbolt OST vibes... So this is jazz metal... love it.
My back hurt before listening to this. After listening to this my whole body hurts. Probably withdrawal from this cacophony of amazingness (and my dancing around like a Spazz)
Never been a fan of horns, but they balance it out in this band. Most jazz I heard tends to put the guitars behind the sax and trombones.
This reminds me of Metal Slug background music. lol
really nice job
a perfect song for METAL SLUG
Dang this is cool! Also interesting because jazz had a large influence on a lot of metal music!
Superb! Thank you for making, and please continue!
Really good !
My wet dreams... Jazz + Metal + Funk.... That would be awesome!
I am hearing Bowser Castle MK8 inside of my mind listening to this
Amazing!!!!!!!!!! Come on guys! Make more music, don't let us only with the EP!! :(
Hey! This is serious good music. Good band great. This is Fresh
This is soooo sick!
the best jazz metal
This was exactly what I was looking for. Sounds a bit like zappa
Was thinking about new music to check out and jazz metal came to mind. Yall hit it right, looking forward to more material and refinement.
Subbd
Thanks for this awesome clip! Glad to hear something from you again
Cool Band!!! Greetings from Mexico
I almost want to head bang, but it's just mellow enough to keep it to a bob, my neck is confused on what to do here
great!
INSANE!!!
oh, what a tasty piece! just the right balance between metal and jazz. and sax is awesome. I do really like it.
This is sick.
WOW that's awesome 😎🆒
great debut
Underrated!!!!
When you felt relax and energic on the same time
Man, that sax sounds HEAVY...
woahh!!! very rare genre kind.. I luv metsl & jazz! this is both (y)
...and. " EVER FORTHRIGHT"
Piece of jazz
Of of course you'll start it with The lick.
