- After being humiliated by Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 23, Mr. McMahon booked Lashley in a three-on-one handicap match at Backlash 2007, where McMahon's team won, making him the new ECW Champion. Despite McMahon's efforts to undermine Lashley, including a four-man gauntlet challenge, Lashley triumphed and reclaimed the title at One Night Stand. McMahon, in a deep depression afterward, had a "Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night" on RAW, which ended with his limousine exploding, leading the wrestling world to mourn his presumed death, only for him to reappear on RAW a week later after an unexpected tragedy.

For those confused, the unexpected tragedy at the end was Mr. McMahon announcing the death of Chris Benoit and his wife and son. This had a big impact on this storyline as it was scrapped and never revisited again.
I know that for a long time now but the new generation of today don't know shit.

@@Podgorski37 that is, actually. You know how they have text polls back then to interact with the fans? A famous example of that is when they voted on who ran over Goldberg. They had the fans guessing via text messages and Stone Cold revealed that it was Lance Storm and Chris Jericho. Hell, I'm surprised Stone Cold didn't get angry because even he himself was a suspect in the eyes of the fans. He was among the top 3 suspects, actually. Behind Jericho and another guy I can't remember. That similar text poll thing happened after Vince was blown up. WWE made the fans guess who was the assassin and they created a website scheduled to reveal who the killer was in two weeks. After two weeks, boom. The website revealed Benoit. I watched this in a documentary.
2007 a very tragic year for wwe when the tragedy with Benoit happened.
