Was sitting in my loungeroom as a kid with mum and sister. Felt something land on my wrist. It was a little spider looked up and our ceiling was covered with them. Followed them down the hall and opened the linen closet. There she was. Big momma huntsman nearly as big as your hand. There was hundreds of little ones all over the house. Fun times.😅😂😂
I always remember our first reaction to a Huntsman. Way back to May, 1975 we'd been in Australia 5 days. My younger brother went to bed and we were talking. He fluffed up his pillow and turned it over to reveal this monster spider. Well the noise, the kid sized hole in the wall🤣🤣🤣🤣was a howler. Luckily the kid next door was a bit of bug collector, so he came over and caught it. best laugh we 've ever had.
That mass of tiny spiders on the inside of a window weren't social huntsmen but hatchlings only a few weeks old. Female huntsmen lay their eggs in a silk purse and guard them in a quiet secluded place until they hatch and for a few weeks after that. Then the babies will start to disperse, climbing up towards light so they can secrete a silk thread and 'balloon' away on the slightest breeze. Outside it's the top of a blade of grass or shrub but if they're inside a house windows cause problems.
The thing that makes most people nervous, about catching them in whatever container, is the thought that they might race at the last minute and then you end up with the tragedy of a half squashed or sliced in half little innocent. Then you have to slide paper under it and squash it out of it's misery outside before it suffers further. It's a real kick in the guts when that happens. I try to get them to run into and hide in a special corded mop. They feel hidden in there while you take them outside and fling them into the bushes near the shed. They can live the shed as you're only visiting them there.
I love Huntsmans, they keep the other spiders down and clean the house of insects. If my Huntsman is healthy, my house is also. I could never kill one! I don't like all spiders though 🙃🙃
Love em plenty of exo skeletons in my shed! One day watching ytube in the shed 2 hairy legs came over the top of my tablet just one of my 8 legged friends saying hello to me😂

They are harmless and no competition for a vacuum cleaner!
Love your reaction 😂 I raised a baby huntsman, he lived for 2 years ! Not scary, just BIG at 3 inches leg span 😂

It's not just spiders that reborn their skin, crabs, lobsters do it as well. Humans do it too after a 7 year cycle.

They are so BIG, that's why people are scared of them.
They are free pest control, here we have little useless spiders, those get anything from flies to mice/lizards. Lucky people.
