Although you’ll definently want a champion in your deck, imo picking a champion first might not be the best choice in some scenarios. If your opponent gets a champion first, you guarantee yourself the other 2.
I think the most important first picks are generalist spells (like arrows, fireball, poison) to thin out the pickings and running a deck that complements a counter pick to your opponent while also picking strong cards that they can’t spell out (zappies hogs certain buildings for fireball; minions archers for arrows). Then it’s just about not making mistakes.

i don't know how but i did exact same mistakes as you man, like time goes out and picking wrong card by default misplacing drills. Maybe matchmaking kinda distracts and picking process is lowkey frustrating and boring, as its time consuming.

Egolem has a ton of counters, so you must be picking the wrong cards or using your cards wrong

Pick bomb tower, valk, bomber, dark prince they are all good counters
