- Join Me As I Fly The Darkstar From New York To London Heathrow In Real Time On Flight Simulator 2020.
I take off at New York's Newark Liberty airport for the 2700NM flight, then climb up to 275,000 feet, The watch the sun rise while enroute to London.
Then I come in to land on Heathrow's Rwy 27R
Man that was cool! The perspective is interesting. You left NYC and landed in London in 49 minutes. It takes me 50 minutes to go 10 miles to work.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank You for watching!
aproximating 50 minutes
Holy crap! Is traffic that bad? Where do you live?
@@anonymoususer855 I live a few miles outside of Boston. Traffic gets pretty ugly. One particular highway has traffic at all hours.
@@oimickey6110 I can imagine that. sometimes it takes me more than an hour just to cross a bridge in NYC....
this bad boy is definitely the hypothetical modern equivalent of the sr-71 blackbird. and it actually got into space, also, very good flying there mate
Space (Karma line) starts at 100km not 82km
Random fun fact. The SR-71 was originally called the RS-71, however the President at the time of it's unveiling accidentally called it the SR-71. It was easier and less awkward to change the name of the plane than it was to correct the President.
@@saintsffa2357this is a bit of a myth actually. The name had been switched to SR71 prior to the unveiling but the transcripts still read RS71 so people assumed the president misspoke
@@saintsffa2357Wikipedia begs to differ:
“USAF Chief of Staff General Curtis LeMay preferred the SR (Strategic Reconnaissance) designation and wanted the RS-71 to be named SR-71. Before the July speech, LeMay lobbied to modify Johnson's speech to read "SR-71" instead of "RS-71". The media transcript given to the press at the time still had the earlier RS-71 designation in places, creating the story that the president had misread the aircraft's designation.”
@@magicmulder it was on a documentary I watched so perhaps that was wrong. Maybe Wikipedia is wrong. Who knows 🤷♂️
“Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking. We’re currently at our cruising altitude of 275,000 feet flying due east at approximately 7,700 mph. Don’t get too comfortable though as we will be arriving in London technically tomorrow, but in 45 mins. Thanks for choosing Holy Spirit Airlines.” 😅
At that speed you may arrive yesterday 😂
@@TheMakingofChannel I was gonna say yesterday but he’s flying east so just going from today to tomorrow in 45 mins instead of 8 hrs 😂
I first read that as Holy Shit Airlines
@@haunteddestiny312 At the speed the flight's going, might as well be Holy Shit Airlines!
@@dx-ek4vr that’s a fair point!
The Darkstar is the most Kerbal thing I've ever seen in a movie.
yes
Fuck U smoking ,it doesn't carry missiles
Just think back in the 1700 the only way of getting from London to New England was by a ship with sails and was a very long and dangerous journey that took a month just to travel there. How far humanity has evolved is insane
We seem to understand flight so naturally. In his own lifetime Orville Wright saw his and his brother's flying machine take to the skies at 30ft & 30 MPH, and create history.
He then went on to witness the introduction of the jet aircraft. It's crazy. Once we figured out how to fly we've mastered it with unbelievable prowess.
Особенно в играх
@@JoyoSnooze have to understand the if animals like birds squirrels and bats understand the concept of even just gliding . why wouldnt we take it up naturally? humans are incredibly intelligent give us some credit XD
@@kjmmss You're giving us too much credit lol The average human is not that much more intelligent compared to other primates.
yeah just think that before cars there were horses. wow just think before hammers there were rocks. wow. just think. just think. just think before refrigeration there was curing. wow just think. do you bore your own mother?
I flew Darkstar from London to Johannesburg in… just over 30mins.
Those scramjets don’t mess around
Yeah
I added them to my *FICTIONAL* starskipper Planes
Really good
Nice. In my book which takes place around 2074. I have a type of plane called the AeroDyne Astral 7xx that’s an unmanned scramjet powered commercial spaceplane. Essentially a Darkstar that can carry up to 20 passengers
When you consider that Concorde did this route in 2 hours, imagine if such a thing like this would exist to carry passengers, obviously a new low emission biofuel would need to be created, and with bigger fuel tanks this could make longer routes, I once saw another channel fly this from London to Sydney in 2 hours but with unlimited fuel on.
Yes it would definitely change air travel! This plane could possibly make it from London to Sydney without refueling, but you couldn't fly it at full throttle.
@@floridagamerguy8557 If the fuel consumption curve is the same as in the Blackbird, flying faster saves fuel. The limitation for the Blackbird was hull temperature rising out of control.
Probably not on biofuel. Biofuels tends to have bad energy density and high viscosity, and they also freeze easily at cold environments. Hypersonic aircrafts will probably run on liquid hydrogen instead.
Concorde did it in more like 3 hours tbh…
Why do you need a low emission biofuel????
Watching that baby glow at 10:46 was awesome.
its nuts that at 10 mach, flying around the entire globe would only take a bit over 3h...
That final turn, approach, landing and taxi were very good considering how much whisky you had drunk.
You flew over my office at 47.18, about 2.5 miles from LHR 27R 🙂
Moments like that make MSFS so cool.
Didn’t quite fly over it but on approach you could see my house and my school on the screen at the same moment.

264,000 ft. 50 miles in the air. according to NASA, this makes the pilot officially an astronaut.
62 miles is the karman line, beginning of space not 50
@@Disciple_of_God.he literally said according to nasa
@@Disciple_of_God. the karman line is the beginning of space, i.e 100km above the surface, NASA however considers someone an astronaut at a height of 80km above the surface.
I love this type of content. Hope you make more of it. It's kinda relaxing to watch in a way.
Im getting triggered... JUST SAY ROGER!
Florida gamer guy. You shouldn't expect more. They blew past the 250 knot class b airspace speed restriction too in NY airspace.
Glad I am not the only one.
sick video man! was cool to be able to get this experience from you! (i always mess up flying the darkstar lol) keep it up man!
The first person view of the Darkstar is so cool!
that’s really incredible, even in theory. great video
It's crazy yes! It's amazing how fast some aircraft in real life can go even!
Well, it’s kinda theory. Lockheed designed this craft for the movie and they teased a new aircraft recently with a video. So who knows
What do you expect from theory alone?
Magic starts at 9:29. Finally they impossibly move to perfect hypersonic scam efficiency and the turbines shit down
The turbines shit down
The turbines shit down
THEY WHAT???
@@DeltaPrime95THEY SHIT DOWN.
Ahh yess.. they move to hypersonic SCAM efficiency and SHIT down. Must be super dangerous for anyone on the ground below. Turbines shitting down at mach 3+ 😳.
What a beautiful aircraft. Just a perfect, all around gorgeous piece of technology look at that thing when it's in 3rd person. That thing is a beastt
Ok chewie cut in the sublight engines
What a kiss of a landing 💋
Even though you fly like a madman i still loved the video.
Probably a stupid question but: Say your engines crapped out over the east coast doing mach 9.9 at max alt, could you hypothetically still deadstick it to London?
No, I've actually ran out of fuel while test flying the plane earlier when it was released. This plane can make it a few hundred miles if if you hold the altitude some. Though it will drop like a brick when you start reaching lower altitudes.
@@floridagamerguy8557True
Its a Plane designed to go fast not stay fast
@@floridagamerguy8557You can't lower the vertical speed, you can't maintain a cruise flight, that's not impossible, I've flown the Darkstar with a vertical speed less than 100 feet per minute
I would love to watch some fly-bys from this beauty!
cant fly at match 9 at low altitude
Negative Ghost Rider. The pattern is full.
*blinks* ah damnit missed it!
@@BryanAM7 have you ever watched it fly at high Mach at low altitude, in a video? 'Cause I haven't...
I was doing something similar the other day. Take off from Heathrow and fly as far as I can till the scram jet runs out of fuel. Then use what little remaining fuel I've got left, I landed at Andrews air force base. Too bad the Darkstar glides like a rock with a parachute
What controller do u use? I use an Xbox controller and it’s not that hard to fly with it I do it on pc too with the controller. I’ve done coast to coast, to practice flying it. I’ve gotten pretty good actually
I usually use a Xbox controller with my pc. I do have a Logitech joystick though. I've noticed with flying the Darkstar you usually get better range flying it at about 70-80% throttle, but then you're only flying about 4000 knots vs 5200+
Thank You for watching, Hope you enjoyed the video!!
Ryan
I recommend taking it to peak altitude and once you hit mach 10, shut the jets down, and glide from 275,000 to 2,000 ft. You'll be gliding for a long time before you reach below 200 Kt
Cool seeing Heathrow from 80,000 feet.
Good grief that is cool 😮
I still cannot comprehend how this game can even exist... 😱
Great flight !!!!
AMAZING FLY!!!
Thank You! Glad You Enjoyed it!
Great Flight!
Imagine looking out your kitchen windows whilst washing the breakfast pots and seeing that coming into land :~)
Turn the radio off if you don't aknowledge it. Don't be an ass to the ATC.
Yeah, exactly what i was thinking! Those people work hard and do not deserve to just be ignored like that, i mean who do you think you are anyway? Too cool for school? They save lives, what do you do? Ass
poor ATC guy, I know almost nothing about this game or ATC but damn I sensed some anger in that final "good day"
What a wild ride, flew inverted with a massive dive, must have lost 20,000 feet?
Did you report the speedo malfunction? Seemed to max out at 450kns for some reason
altimeter maxed out at 275000 feet even when the vertical speed was still +26000 fpm
Impressive!
Mach 10.2, you're at Tom Cruise level my man!
City at 10:36 is Worcester Massachusetts, you can see route 9 to Boston below you along with the wachusett reservoir.
Now do it from SJC to Heathrow plz 😆✨
Fly around the Earth once with this. Fun time.
This Ace Combat 8 demo is looking pretty sweet 😊
Very pretty
sick, this helps me forget her leaving.
very cool
52 miles in altitude, the edge of space! (and satellites have made numerous orbits at that altitude before deorbiting and burning up) Not sure how much air is entering the engines, but not much!
This is is where the scramjet engine will have almost 100% efficiency. :) Speed with a good range. A lower altitude around 70 000 - 40 000 feet the ramjet engine is better. Anything lower than that is... Nope. I mean both will work but with less efficiency. As the air is much more dense... Ramjet can still work but it is waay too much air for it to be efficient... So cant reach its ideal speed because of the dense air as you moving down from 40 000 feet to 0... This airplane got scramjet engines... Ideal altitude for the engines is around 70 000 all the way up to 250 000 feet and ideal speed is aroud mach 4 ish... Anything above of a speed of mach 4 will improve your efficiency and range at such an altitudes. This is how these type of jet engines work. For example Meteor missile. It has a rocket booster engine to boost it to an ideal speed of(Mach 2) and an altitude of(40 000-70 000 feet) for the ramjet engines to kick in and be efficient and to boost the missile speed as fast as possible(Above mach 4). So in ideal conditions the Meteor missile will have around 110 nautical miles of range and a speed of above mach 4.
"and satellites have made numerous orbits at that altitude before deorbiting and burning up"
Has anyone ever told you that it doesn't hurt to check your facts? The lowest sustained orbit by a satellite is 167km. 83km as you stated is absurdly low and anything at that alt would burn up going fast enough to orbit.
@@Bruh-zx2mc My guy, it's possible to make several orbits with a perigee below 100km. With some aerodynamics it should be possible to have an object dip to 80km-ish and come out the other side just fine, and even have plenty of kinetic energy left to do so several times over.
@@RubberKid100 Where did you get that from? 167km as a lowest sustained orbit comes from JAXA's TSUBAME, and it's also supported by ESA's site which claims: "Low Earth orbit (LEO) - It is normally at an altitude of less than 1000 km but could be as low as 160 km above Earth".
If you can't back up your claim that "it's possible to make several orbits with a perigee below 100km", then fuck off because your comment has no value to anyone.
@@Bruh-zx2mc *_"The lowest sustained orbit by a satellite is 167km."_* Did you read the sentence you quoted? He said *_""before deorbiting and burning up."_* It wasn't a stable orbit and he made that clear.
*_"83km as you stated is absurdly low and anything at that alt would burn up going fast enough to orbit."_* There are a couple of recorded cases of satellites surviving near-Karman periapsis in highly eccentric orbits for over a year.
Can’t say why but I found myself laughing through most of this flight
So you were laughing for most of 49mins straight and you can't say why??....I'll go ahead and say it for you, Magic Mushrooms! at least thats my guess.
Any specific reason you chose to start the trip at night? Personally I'd been less interested in the inside cockpit view and sunrise visuals, and more in the actual travel views. It's interesting to see the perceived slow crawl across the globe, knowing it's in fact unimaginably fast. A lower altitude speed run would be cool too.
well the darkstar cannot reach cruise speed at lower altitudes, because the air is too dense
@@randomcamera746 Nothing to do with my question.
@@M1tjakaramazov you said a "lower altitude speed run" no need to be rude
@@M1tjakaramazovit can't reach full speed at lower altitude because of the air density and physics. If you want to see it in the daytime, go fly it yourself lol.

My only complaints for the developers. The movie got it wrong. The NAVY does not have test planes like that. Only The Air Force. And you would not have red and green lights on the top of the wings. I'm an anal, nitpicking combat vet. Sorry! Great video!!!!

Looking at this video, I just realized the MFD could very well be an older version of MSFS 😆
I love how mfs added the heating up animation on the plane. It’s so realistic and cool
Over 6000+ Miles Per Hour, RED HOT AIRFRAME and just wow.
The international space station can go from new york to london in around 12 minutes. The ISS speed is around 17500 miles per hour

thats fucking cool bro
I can never seem to get that right. I either move side to side or loose altidude so fast i have to disable the scram jets
ure so lucky
I’m amazed at how I’m able to play this technically free with Xbox gamepass
well technically you pay for the membership but nevertheless it's worth a lot for the money especially when the starfield is released.
"Experimental DKS, did you copy?"
Sorry, ATC kickstart my heart was playing too loud, couldn't hear ya
i wonder how the jetlag would feel lol like it was just nighttime lol
i think the only reason maverick crashed the darkstar was because he realised that its impossible to land due to its cockpit design

soooooo how does the pilot see lol
Scramjet wouldn’t work at under Mach 2 or 3 irl
How did you get that jet
It is included for free as part of the Topgun Maverick addon, it's available in the game.
is the darkstar even possible tho like...THAT possible? if you have played any aerial combat game that simulates IAS...that thing @ 400 kph IAS and having NO alt loss is just Insanity! I mean is it very long with a lifting body?
It is possible. It uses the same physics as the space shuttle. Example the space shuttle in orbit would be going about 16,500MPH, all with a wind speed of at 0MPH. The faster you go= The less lift required.

Yes, the prospect is really interesting, I remember in the USSR made a similar jet passenger airplane.
It could travel 9000 km in only 4.5 hours.
However, the European Commission on Ecology expressed concern (they said something about ozone holes) and the project was closed.
The USSR Tu-144 was phased out of service because it was hideously unreliable and unsuited to carrying passengers. Not because of some "European commission" that doesn't even exist. Why are you telling such weird lies dude? What do you gain?
