Many of you were asking why I don't compete in big tournaments, so I did. I have to say, I’m pretty happy with my performance. Out of 250 players, I managed to finish #49, which feels like a solid achievement given the incredibly strong field with so many top players. This tournament really helped me rediscover the thrill of competition and the joy of being a pool player. Over the past year, I felt my drive slipping a bit, probably because I’ve been so focused on building the Sharivari brand. But now, I’m all in - ready to hit the practice table hard and jump back into tournaments! Although I wasn’t at my absolute best game-wise, I felt mentally stable throughout the whole tournament. My mental strength was definitely tested, especially at this TV table match. It was intense, but such a valuable experience. I’m also working on sharing another full match and a best shots compilation from all six of my matches. You don't have to be a top player to be a great instructor. A decent player, yes, but not a pro. I've taken lessons from quite a few pros and trust me, many can't teach what they know. They are great players, but often don't understand the concepts that they can demonstrate so well (they just do it), or they can't (or won't) teach it. I'm an instructor here in the US (Florida) and about the same Fargo as you I would guess (680ish). I've read over a hundred books, countless hours of study of videos, listening to top notch commentary, online articles, etc, as well as self study and thousands and tens of thousands of hours of practice. That's why I can help others learn to be the best versions of themselves, whether beginner, intermediate, advanced, or in a few cases even players better than myself. You and your channel have grown so much over the years, I remember watching you when you first started. Your own game has improved due to the time you put in, and your production value in your videos as top notch. Makes my channel look like kindergarten lol... but I'm all about imparting information to people and helping them learn, just like you, and hopefully things that will help people get better. Keep doing what you do, and get out there and compete when you can for yourself, but don't worry about what others think. They wish they could play at your level and have the knowledge you do. We are not pros and will never be, but for moments and racks and even occasional matches we can shoot just like them. I too am competing again in a pro tournament later this year (International Open), first one in 3 years for me since shoulder surgery and just getting out of competition for a while. I'm sure I won't do my best but just want to compete and have fun. And maybe I'll win a few games here and there! Take care, thank for posting the video as always!
It's interesting and recognizable what you wrote about teachers and their level; I taught saxophone (musical instrument) couple of decades ago.. and it's the same thing; playing great isn't the same as being a good teacher. The challenge for any teacher; what does a student want to get out of a lesson? A great pool player can play great, but can't always explain what makes it great.. and is therefore perhaps not a good teacher to less talented ones; it's the result of a pragmatic approach as opposed to the often false believe that you can do something if only the mechanism is understood. conversely, great teachers are able to understand the hurdles and mental blockades of beginners/students/others and tell why and how something works and why something doesn't. I think that students who don't have a natural aptitude, tend to be less pragmatic and resort to asking questions that are about the nuts and bolts of a construction that could perhaps offer some insight as to why something needs to be done... but overlook the fact that the "gained insight" does not automatically yield (great) results. Like you, I have also read books on pool, tons of practice, instruction books, videos etc.. and sure, some of that knowledge on offer rubbed off... but most of it.. is thrown out of the window because at the end of the day; you develop a feeling for it.. or not. Goodbye diamond system! :p As a music teacher I sometimes got asked by students who weren't that gifted or even involved... why is it a sharp and not a flat .. which is a valid question actually (has to do with circle of fifths i.a.) yet I felt they were often stalling the moment I presumed they came for; learning how to PLAY and play well. I noticed that those who advanced in big increments, were the ones who took knowledge "as is" and simply played.. of course I offered them a challenge and fed them with enough info that they could progress. Some did, some didn't. Can't win them all. And yes, fun is important since not everyone is aiming to be a pro anyway. I'm sure with pool it works the same way. Not that I'm a pro pool player myself (used to be quite fanatic though) but I can certainly see in the pool rooms that I have frequented, that most if not all, have reached their ceiling quite quickly.. also because their game becomes marked by a sense of complacency after a while; any progress they make are in really small increments, which isn't a bad thing per se since fun is also a big factor (!) , yet some really can't handle defeat somehow haha. Human behavior at its finest ;-) At the end of the day - imo - "greatness" (whatever passes for it) is also about having a winners mentality; some have it, most don't. @@CODlogist after seeing players play over a period of time, anyone can observe whether there's a great deal of progress or that they seem to be stuck at a certain level (ceiling) and the latter is either because of a lack of natural aptitude, not being ambitious enough (fun is more important) or being satisfied with the level they're able to play at (complacency). Or a combination of these factors. Again, nothing against not being ambitious.. we don't all aim to be pros (I sure don't) but I do recognize - as I'm sure others are able to as well - why someone is able to "make it" and others are not. Other things you write about are too general to say something sensible about; 70% (how did you arrive at that nr?) mentally trying to learn...ehr...?? but maybe the uploader can chip in with his wonderful penchant to educate on pool related stuff?

Hey great match! I'm 54yrs old and have played since I was a kid. Have always been a decent player but never played in a league until this past winter. I found I am in the top tier of players in my area and enjoyed league play. I want to say thank you because I have learned quite a bit from your videos and was able to use what I learned from you. Of course I was totally rooting for you! You did great! The final score was impressive. Showed poise, great shooting and position playing. Some surprising shots and I could hear the commentator was also impressed and mentioned many times how you would pull off a surprising shot. A couple of good “breaks” (I don’t mean the breaks, though both players I felt,probably were not getting breaks they were used to getting for some reason) on a few crucial shots and you could have done even better. It’s actually very encouraging to see someone like you who has vast knowledge and plays so well, but even so nerves can get to one here and there. Just in my own little pool world (I just played my first tournament a few weeks ago and watched as many of the other folks play as I could) I notice some really top players here that I feel like they sometimes get to focused towards the end, shooting a fantastic run but then trying a shot that has even for them a lower success rate instead of safety, miss and hen the opponent cleans up. Anyway, super impressed, would definitely like to see more streaming of tournament play by you in the future! Feel like I almost know you from your videos so, have to say I’m proud of you!
Your a positive influence for occasional players like myself. Through your videos we all learn more about the game and you do not try to go into concepts that you are not good at, and moreover you are willing to share those mistakes in your videos. Listen S that’s an incredible accomplishment just participating at that level especially when you’re not sure what to expect. Just like anything else tournament play gets easier the more you participate and the more you learn . When you focus on learning and stop worrying about winning that’s when you really improve. Finishing #49 is really very impressive. You played very well. I could tell your confidence was a bit low at times but this will get better. It's your first major. You can't expect any better than you did. A learning experience for you. So it's a big win for you. A huge thank you for bringing us on your journey to maybe top 10 in the world one day. Keep trying, never give up! Even good pros make mistakes and don't get lucky on breaks sometimes! I played my first big tournament in March CCS Canadian Championship no top pros but really good players some obviously were sandbagging to stay out of the advanced division lol. I had no sleep lost 5-2 then 5-3, was 8 ball I couldn't afford 9 ball too, I was on the 8 so many times and missed easy shots a lack of sleep will do that, my break and run was the best of any match nearly perfect cue ball control during that set, I messed up 2 break and runs left the table wide open otherwise I would have kept playing, I was playing against men too. Good learning experience. Im going to try a small Fargo rated tournament in the city next to mine soon when I can afford. I wish I could afford to enter big pro tournaments just to see where I stand.
People that say negative things about your accolades might want to hear Efrain's take on learning... The reason he can do crazy things, that dont always make sense, is because when he sees someone who doesn't know what they are doing make a crazy lucky shot; he sees it as a learning experience. Accolades don't always mean they can teach. You have a great attitude and a great delivery in your lessons. Thanks for what you do.
Loved watching you play. Playing under pressure is not easy. You definitely made some good shots. Your safties let you down on a few occasions, breaking dry didn't help, and your opponent had some lucky rolls. Great job. Look forward to watching more matches. 🎱

I'm a beginner pool player and I just played in my first tournament ever, a couple weeks ago, called The Lucasi West Coast Tour (in America). Your videos have played a really big part of me learning how to play pool. I cannot thank you enough for teaching me how to become a pool player from watching your videos here on youtube. Spot on - the best coaches don’t play at the highest level, and vice versa. The one exception I know is Alex Lely

Listen S that’s an incredible accomplishment just participating at that level especially when you’re not sure what to expect. Just like anything else tournament play gets easier the more you participate and the more you learn . When you focus on learning and stop worrying about winning that’s when you really improve. Keep trying, never give up! Even good pros make mistakes and don't get lucky on breaks sometimes! I played my first big tournament in March CCS Canadian Championship no top pros but really good players some obviously were sandbagging to stay out of the advanced division lol. I had no sleep lost 5-2 then 5-3, was 8 ball I couldn't afford 9 ball too, I was on the 8 so many times and missed easy shots a lack of sleep will do that, my break and run was the best of any match nearly perfect cue ball control during that set, I messed up 2 break and runs left the table wide open otherwise I would have kept playing, I was playing against men too. Good learning experience. Im going to try a small Fargo rated tournament in the city next to mine soon when I can afford. I wish I could afford to enter big pro tournaments just to see where I stand.

The reason he can do crazy things, that dont always make sense, is because when he sees someone who doesn't know what they are doing make a crazy lucky shot; he sees it as a learning experience. I'm a beginner pool player and I just played in my first tournament ever, a couple weeks ago, called The Lucasi West Coast Tour (in America). Your videos have played a really big part of me learning how to play pool. I cannot thank you enough for teaching me how to become a pool player from watching your videos here on youtube.
