The green vase is a mid century piece made in England by Whitefriars. I think it is the "bark" vase, possibly designed by Geoffrey Baxter. The factory closed in 1980. Whitefriars is well known and collected in Great Britian. The bark texture was such a popular pattern that it was copied, along with the "drunken bricklayer" pattern. It is not as well known here in the states. $20 is a good price as they sell for at least double that. I think that the dark to slightly lighter green colorway is unusual. The Arabia plate was a good purchase, as well. Barb, you can try swirling rice or sand with detergent in the vase to remove the gunk.

At the restaurants where I served, always used salt and crushed ice to clean built up coffee residue in the glass carafes. Worked like a charm...just swirl it around and rinse out!!!
People would see me do that and they thought I was nuts. Worked great. Salt also keeps ice longer, but need a bunch of it.
Mother used to clean crud out of narrow neck bottles by adding raw rice and Dawn dish detergent and shaking and spinning it around, almost always worked well.
I have used rice with white vinegar. The vinegar, if you let it set for a few hours. takes out water lines, and rust. The rice is good to help scrub, if needed.

Soak inside of swung vase with CLR. Works really good on hard water and stains.
The Arabia Finland plate is from 1969 and the pattern is designed by Raija Uosikkinen. Pattern is called Matin matka ( Matts journey). Dinnerplate is part of tableware set for children. Great find 🤩👍, best wishes from Finland.
A trick I learned as a bartender when the coffee pot would get hard water stains was to add ice and lime juice and swirl it around for several minutes. The ice acts as the agitator. Not sure how to get it into the vase. Maybe ice chips?
Also I have used lime juice with marbles.
Use vinegar and baking soda and put some rice in the bottom then shack it and the rice works as a scrubber to help remove the stuff from the bottom of your vase
Denture tablets work well- (as do all of the other ideas people have mentioned in the comments). Get the tablets that work in 3 minutes vs overnight, they tend to be a little stronger. I go thrifting on a regular basis and I have never found a blue bird of happiness. I don’t want one, but I would like to find one just to say I did. Now praying hands are easy.

I had that santa that was mushed too lol, the best way to fix them is get boiling water soak them until they get soft and the get minimally expanding spray foam and fill them a little at a time and let the foam expand a little goes a long way, basically just enough to get him unmushed.

Barb…the dental tabs have worked for me. Sometimes I leave soaking overnight. Sometimes I have to renew the water/tabs I’d the jars are bad

The purple opalescent set is not Fenton. It's made by Westmoreland. The color is Lilac. Beautiful set! Hope you bought it. Enjoyed the shopping trip.
I was trying to figure out exactly why I get such a kick out of your videos, and it hit me: I feel just like an anthropologist watching people in the wild. First I thought it was small town mid-western folks are an unknown to me, but really it is just intriguing what you and Barb pick up. Jeffery knocking the glass candle sticks against the plastic snow man, which I think he bought(!), Barb honestly feeling for the broken rubber Santa. There is a whole Mayberry RFD vibe going on. Thanks for another fun video. The discussion on the Santa picture reminded me that I need to label the backs of some framed family pictures I have with whether they are original photos or digital copies.

The arabia is a great score. Even in the Netherlands is sells for a good price. Always pick it up. Even the jam jars without the lids. I sold two small ones for € 52. 😃

Man, out here in Reno the thrift stores and the antique stores are just about becoming the same price.
The people who run the antique booths are having to lower their prices sometimes almost to the point where I can find something to flip for a profit (ALMOST!).
And nowadays the thrift stores have been jacking their prices up so high that there's hardly no meat on the bones to turn any kind of profit
But no matter what happens I still check them all out because every once in awhile they screw up and underprice something and I come swooping in like a vulture to snatch it up and flip it on eBay.

St vincent de paul has great stuff in US. Jocelyn found great stuff at even greater prices . In BC , Canada like all our thrift shops here the prices are going up and they don't have the great items your shops have!!

Be careful with the ( Ceramic Trees ). They have been making reproductions for at least 3+ years They sell them for $29 - $50 dollars at Hobby Lobby and they made them to look vintage. FYI for everyone
