- "Lay All Your Love on Me" was recorded by the Swedish pop group ABBA in 1980 for their seventh studio album, Super Trouper. The electro-pop song explores the high emotions and passions that can emerge when falling in love.
The song hit number one in the US dance charts in 1981, but has lasted in popularity over the years, becoming an ABBA staple. In 2006 it was named the 60th greatest dance song of all time by Slant magazine.

ABBA Lay All Your Love On Me Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I wasn't jealous before we met
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
And I'm possessive, it isn't nice
You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice
[Pre-Chorus]
But now it isn't true
Now everything is new
And all I've learned has overturned
I beg of you
[Chorus]
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
[Verse 2]
It was like shooting a sitting duck
A little small talk, a smile, and baby, I was stuck
I still don't know what you've done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
[Pre-Chorus]
I feel a kind of fear
When I don't have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you, dear
[Chorus]
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me
[Verse 3]
I've had a few little love affairs
They didn't last very long and they've been pretty scarce
I used to think that was sensible
It makes the truth even more incomprehensible
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause everything is new
And everything is you
And all I've learned has overturned
What can I do?
[Chorus]
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me

This song is so amazing. ABBA is one of the best music bands ever with Queen
Abbas the best
Y E S
Sorry, but Queen doesn't come close to ABBA
M4T you are right
Queen were inspired by ABBA in many ways!
IMAGINE VIBING TO THIS IN A SKATE ROLLING RINK WHEN IT WAS FIRST RELEASED!!!
That sounds fun, today's music isn't as good as 80s music.
@@Scree_Girl agreed, everything either sounds too similar or is repeated
My local skating ring only ever played Abba.
My mum was able to do that, she was in her 20s when it came out
@@Scree_Girl honestly 80s music sucks it’s incredibly cheesy
i'm literally sitting in my bed at 0:22 am listening to this song while closing my eyes. goosebumps. this is so good.

I've been a fan of Abba for years but for some reason never heard this song before, so this song feels like a hidden gem for me 💎
Same for me, I discover this for a Short of TH-cam, I search the line "wasting your emotion" and found this.
My mother would go mad if I knew Dancing Queen or Voulez-vous but not this 😂
I've been a fan since the 70's. Living in Sweden, they were inevitable.
LOL, this was the first ABBA song I heard and fell in love with the band - it was rocking disco clubs like earthquakes in 1981.
All those years I was singing " I was in jail just before we met"
😂😂😂this had me dying

The chorus sounds like a Hymn. Beautiful song
The chorus was actually inspired by Frida’s memories of singing with her church congregation as a child in the summertime of 1950s Sweden.

@@flfar3445 I was never a huge ABBA fan, so I can't consider myself part of their fan base. However, as with many bands, there is an occasional diamond that sparkles in a way that gets my attention. Certainly not their only song that I find palatable, but this one hit a chord with me many years ago and I find it's still resonating.

At 3:50 that synth solo is incredible. Benny's accordion and baroque music knowledge combined.
The sheer playfulness and precision just effortless. The little key flutters geometry of melody.
Literally showing off in the last three seconds.
Love that bit too 🥰
Agreed, it's almost Bach.
This comment was both a treat to my eyes and imagination. Thank you.

If you’re listening this music in 2024 and after… thank you for having a good taste
good taste is subjective
:D
It is about ordinary emotion of young people but elevated and sounds like a hymn.
Can't imagine a better way to define this song...
Lay all your love on Jesus and dont run with the idols?
I was thinking that too! It really does sound like a hymn sung in church but with synths. To bring all the synthers to repentance. Praise be unto Jesus upon whom all love is answered and none wasted :)
That's the perfect way to put it.

Under rated? A whole musical/movie was made based on their songs!!
My aunt passed away when i was 10. i remember listening to ABBA in car whenever we would have sleepovers or i would go out with her. Now listening to this 8 years later, being 18, its such a happy memory to look back on. I hope she would be proud of the person i have become.
She will be very happy
Hell even I'm proud of you. It's very impressive to me that you can look back at your time with her, with happiness. I don't even know you, but I love your aunt with you, for having made you so happy. I hope you're doing even better today.

This theme always seemed to me sophisticated, ahead of its time. The refrain is like a chorus that crosses all that claim with pure melancholy.
