The irony in the first clip is that you can actually tell if gwen started q or e, she has these bars under her healthbar indicating her q stacks, if they get more whenever she attacks, she started q. You got knowledge checked in a video about how to prevent it :p
@@iNonEntity She didnt get the fourth ult vital off, and wasnt autoing nearly the whole time. Those are her two win conditions in a 1v1 and he kited them both out.
@@cliffy223 But it's not hard to counter. Her E is the only thing that makes her ult reliable. Dodge her E, then her ult isn't reliable (it's an AoE skillshot that you can't aim). If her ult doesn't hit you or the spirit, the ult tentacles don't spawn. So she becomes less than a minion and is totally killable with Grievous Wounds.
This is EXACTLY the sort of content I come here for. I feel like I lose to people with way worse fundamentals all the time, and for exactly the reasons discussed in the video. Turns out, a lot of champions in league have this sort of dynamic, where if you don't play a specific special way around their kit, you just lose. And the only way to know that is to play a ton so you can get the experience and hope that the next time you play against that champion isn't enough games in the future that you forgot about what you learned by then. League would be about 1000x easier to get into if there was a video like this for every champion. Honestly, if SkillCapped had something like that on their site, the membership would be worth it for that alone.
@@DamianSzajnowski not gonna watch a 30 m video where a guy stomps someone in smurf just to get 5 tips against a champ that could have been explained in 5m
bro that guy is explaining a base concept when he is smurfing(playing bad) and then winning sheerly out of the enemy miss play and he is counter picking in all match ups top lane is a utopia if u get countered picked there is literally nothing u can do in lane which feels really bad and ur whole gameplay is dictated by yr jungle and the choices he makes and well most gold players dont even have their montor on which makes it easy to beat them
@@harshbisht7047 You're wrong. If they have bad fundamentals you can win every lane matchup. Also if your fundamentals are bad you will lose almost every game from gold and upwards.
That a nice idea for a new series - counter every champion. It would be great to hear your thoughts about each champion key ability and how to play around it.
@@miguelheredia4123how so? I’ve never understood paying people to teach you how to get good at a video game. Just get good by yourself and learning as you play 😂😂 If people want to sell a service where they coach in a game it’s perfectly fine to do so because honestly nobody should ever be spending money on that
Honestly I'm tired of these people saying "just play around Illaoi's E" but never telling you how are you supposed to hide behind your minions if she has so much wave clear. Whenever I play against Illaoi I simply asume I ain't getting any casters because if I walk up for those minions I'll get hit by E. And Illaoi has no incentive to use it before I walk up because she knows if I don't walk up, she'll double my farm all the time.
Exactly. Verbatim. On point. Precisely. Thats why in low elo you ban her, and in high elo rely on teammates. Cuz without teammates she will double ones CS
@@piosenki001 Her wave clear is 100% dependent on her tentacles. Freeze in the middle of lane and she cant clear as effectively. Also if she misses an E, it has a 10 second cooldown, attack her.
@@bbbk123 Was thinking "wow this post didn't age well after CDR rework" just realized it was posted 8 days ago 💀 Even if you freeze lane in the middle kill-window is super small since you need to dodge her E and do it before her 6, when she's in melee vs melee matchup she can max Q1 and there is nothing you can do to stop her from walking up using Q and walking back to her wall if you jump on her she uses E in your animation and guarantees connect. She's my perma ban (i tend to play splitpushers and even if i get ahead early she goes Frostfire and i deal negative DMG or when she's even goes BC flinging E left right and center). She's hard countered by "ADCJunglers" Graves/Kindred farm her on rotation. Graves smokescreen disables her R, + he has dash and usually goes fleeting. For Kindred it's free mark every time. Alistar/Thresh/Pyke supports are my favortite machines to farm her. Her CDs are E - 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12
Low Elo Illaoi players are some of the least mechanically sound players around. I honestly don't understand how anyone can struggle vs an Illaoi. She forces you to disrespect the fuck out of her and just dodge her E with fake movement.
About kled: You don't always need to save W for when you're dismounted, in the clip gwen is already very low, whether you level W dismounted or mounted she still dies, however if you use W when dismounted you have a higher chance of dying before that happens especially if it's like fiora, riven or renekton.
But if you know that they will need to use all of their burst to get you dismounted you can level up your w afterwards and just smash them to a pulp and remount.
@@ozan____ lethal tempo is better for long drawn out trades something he’s not very proficient at, conqueror gives three extra dmg and healing he needs to survive any all in. I think the issue with illaoi is that originally you could really reduce her spirit duration by just fighting her, but they removed that but not everyone knows
Shes a little tiny bit overtuned at the moment but the issue is that shes really hard to nerf without completely gutting because shes not even viable as it is.
i didnt know that, but figured it out? but when i played her and you could do that, she wasnt that great. she pretty much got countered by every ranged pick
Part of the problem is that champions change a lot. The Rumble fighting Illaoi's spirit used to be the right play back when Test of Spirit's duration was reduced by repeatedly damaging Illaoi. Flamespitter would clear the spirit quickly and neuter the ability.
This is a great idea for a video, but it might be important to explain WHY certain champs abilities and their cooldowns are more important than others and WHAT exactly they do. The whole “never get knowledge checked again” idea doesn’t work if they don’t know what these abilities do.
I agree, I still have no idea wtf Yorick E does. And apparently this video was supposed to teach me how to knowledge check it. Kled W explanation wasn’t much better.
@@abcdefghilihgfedcba You could always look up the ability. For Yorick his E causes all his minions to focus on the marked target and the smallest ones to jump onto them getting in a free guaranteed hit. This in combo with his Ult is powerful. Whenever he attacks something the maiden is targetting he does 12% extra damage to them. Meaning every Q, auto, or ghoul auto will do 12% extra per tap. (I believe his Ult works for ghoul. I might be wrong on that.) As for Kled his W is an attack speed steroid. It gives him a lot of attack speed and the final stack does bonus physical damage. It can stack up to four times. At rank 1 it has a 14 second cool down. It is used up against *anything* he autos. You can tell when it is up of his sword his glowing.
The Yorick information is a little lacking. It's more important to keep track of the number of graves spawned. If he has only 1 or 2 there's nothing to fear from the E so you can bully him without risk because he can't use half of his kit and has no all-in potential. Q2 is only usable with at least 3 graves in range, and E would only spawn 2 ghouls which is about 50 damage. With 3 or 4 graves, Yorick W is arguably more important than E - because E takes more time over longer distance it's incredibly easy to dodge if you keep good spacing (you can walk out of the range before it hits you) so most Yoricks will play around the W cooldown rather than the E since it guarantees an engage. Also, the E spawns ghouls in a radius around YOU not him, so by playing a little futher back while it's up you won't get the full 4 jumping on you. Focusing Yorick R is good pre-11, but very bad late game, since it has a lot more HP than Yorick (5000+ at rank 3) so it's much more effective to kill the champion. I've seen level 18 champions die in a 1v1 to maiden because it just has so much health. If you're already winning lane early, DON'T kill Yorick's maiden. It auto-shoves the lane meaning he can't freeze or farm under tower, so it makes him very vulnerable to being ganked or all-in down the long lane.
poke against immobile champions: lock them in W and use E to send 4 ghouls inside, then spam CTRL+3 i call this poke technique " Ultimate Disrespect!™ "
thx I just got decimated by a Yorick that literally had 38% win rate with garen top lane but had a fucking 57% winrate with Yorick, and no it's not because he's otp Yorick he literally started playing this season, this will help me a lot against future Yorick players
This addendum isn't good either. If you see 2 graves, another cs by Q, that's 3. An E landing on you, that's potentially half your hp. Following your recipe, you are supposedly trying to bully the Yorick, which means you can be W caged in first, guaranteeing the E hit. If you dont have dashing ability, you may straight die or waste your flash on top of losing most of your hp. (The key to combat Yorick, like so many others, is constant side-stepping relative to Yorick, while varying the step distance from time to time. That alone will cause half of Yorick's E to miss naturally, sparing whoever the opponent is to pay attention to other things.) The killing of maiden is just an idea. And a good one at that. Maiden is often left behind. That's why Maiden is often easier to kill. Often teams with no idea how Yorick work wouldnt touch the Maiden even while Yorick is clearly out of reach. Meanwhile, killing the Maiden between 2 or 3 champs takes no time. The video may not be the best explaining the details. It's more about the ideas. If the course is similarly explained, then unfortunately it will take any student extra time to comprehend, at which point, perhaps checking the wiki on the spot pre-match is better.
old morde was the absolute king of knowledge checkers. His W was unmatched in confusing interactions. He could damn near build any item at the time too. I loved going banner of command first item to shut down the "vlad counter pick". Good luck autoing that buffed cannon minion to death.
What I hate about illaoi is even if you dont give her opportunities to E you she can just hold it and poke you with Q and W tentacle damage. Once you’re in melee range to trade back she’s guaranteed to hit her E then. Even when her E is down, if her ult is up, you can’t really fight her in that area also. Basically she has no means to engage but she’s also straight up impervious to engages.
Most match ups into Illaoi are just straight up coinflips and it's so disgusting to play against, especially when my jungler doesn't know how to play against it and gives her a free kill.
The only issue with Illaoi imo is her W with Sunderer/Sheen. It makes her whole skillshot gimmick completely pointless and removes a lot of skill expression from the champion.
Most juggernauts demolish her once they get in melee range. Sett, Darius, Garen. If she doesn't start the trade before they get close (unless they got poked before), she likely loses the trade. Landing E before is useful pre-6 cause she can poke and kite away from their pulls/engages, and post 6 cause she can press R to avoid their pulls/garen silence once they get in range. It's definitely not optimal to let them get close before landing E.
Wrong. Illaoi's ult tentacles don't even spawn if you've missed your E. Also, every single one of her animations are slow af, so unless you're playing on a 100+ ping, she should never be able to kill you if she misses E and you have everything up.
I’d include the absurd damage the maiden does with it’s passive, if you hit the same target you do a percerage of their max health as magic damage woth a very low cooldown, so the e is gonna mean even more, but you can play around that in teamfights if the e hits someone else or the maiden is hitting someone else
There are 2 more knowledge checks I'd like to point out: Teemo and Urgot > Urgot is simple: build Warden's Mail and his W will barely do any damage, since this item reduces flat amount of damage from each tick of his W > For Teemo, you should run some combination of Doran's shield + Second wind + Spectre's Cowl + Revitalize. The thing is, his poison refreshes these healing effects, so you can sometimes heal out more than his E's damage, basically negating his poke
@@nathanielmohr9622 Now that I've read about it, you're right: all of the effects are named technically don't heal you, instead increasing your health regen, which is not affected by revitalize. So, thanks for pointing that out. ...although I'll keep on taking it since it synergyses with Maokai's passive so well.
Urgot's real knowledge check is whether or not you know how to dodge E. Even if you don't buy wardens mail, if you dont get hit by urgot's E he wont be able to get shotguns off and will do 0 damage
@@LunarEdge7 No more or less than a darius flash E And E flash you can still watch them cast the E before the flash, so if they are casting E way out of range you may want to flash if it seems like they might be going for the kill I was just talking about generally respecting the E range and baiting it out or dodging if you are going to go in melee range
As an illaoi otp i will say its hard to play her plat and above cause everyone knows how she works the only reason shes not the worst champ in the game is cause she has the 4th highet gold earned of any champion in the game and so she is always alot of gold on her
Two tips I got from experience against Yorick: - When in lane against him, if he lands his E, go near the little coffins in the ground. Although his ghouls are going to be aggro'ed to you, they wont JUMP into you, reducing the damage they will deal. - Unless he's two items ahead of everybody else, Yorick is weak in a 2 x 1. If you are in the Jungle and your laner is with good enough health, gank him non stop. The only problem with him - and made even worse by the fact that I'm in gold/plat and we don't know how to close a game quickly - is that Yorick will snowball into a monster of a side laner, no matter what, as long as the game goes long enough. So, if the game is long, keep killing him non stop.
I will say my biggest problem in league is I really don't know how to fight against a lot of champions, and the problem with league is if you make a guide on how to counter a champ that info can literally become outdated within one patch, also doesn't help the fact champs are becoming overloaded nowadays so trying to figure out how to beat them feels like you're working a 9-5
I wouldnt say the info to counter them become outdated most of the time unless there is significant changes to the champion, and riot will usually give pretty big warnings before reworks. Most of the buffs/nerfs are just a bit of damage off of Q or maybe they get 5 extra armour. Those changes have no affect on how the matchup should be played aside from a few very niche damage thresholds that only matter the the top OTP players anyway.
If you have a hard time against a champion, my tip is play with said champion and the reason for that is that you'll see fight hand what can ruin that game for you. It sound dumb and it can even get you mad because you'll think you are dying because you dont know how to play that champion and it can actually be true BUT once you learn how that champion works and you get your shit beat, that's because the person you are agains knows how to beat your champion, you need to learn from HIM so once you face the champion you are playing, you can do the same.
I agree with most of this except Illaoi. The number of games I have seen an 0/0/0 Illaoi with even CS win a 1v1, and even 1v2 after missing her E because her opponents decided to fight her in her ultimate is insane. I would say like Yorick she also is one where you need to know to get out of her ult instead of just eating the multiple tentacle slams.
Yorick's kind of an unfair example because he knowledge checks your whole team, not just the person laning against him. Even if he loses lane, he still does Yorick things once laning ends, and it's still almost impossible for an unorganized team to deal with him. His Yorick things are so effective that there are even a few people who play him in high elo with some success doing the same splitpush cheese as in low elo.
The other problem i had with him was just his power of crushing towers . Even 3 levels behind 2 items and 40 cs down with 1/7 kda destroyed T1 in 15 seconds. He literary had just hulbreaker. I pushed him under T3 , went to secure dragon and saw him under turret so i was thinking hmm i will recall back to base spend gold and tp to turret to stop him . The second reason of him being low elo king is that no one will go stop him because even toplaners want to aram mid to trow a game and are bored with him
@@butterflyfx57 Yorick's a bit different from them due to how effective of a splitpusher he is, and how impossible he is to duel if you don't know how to fight him. Tryndamere and Fiora can't push 2 lanes at once or summon their own minions, and they're really easy to understand compared to Yorick. He's just 100% cheese.
@@GigaLigma I would argue Tryndamere definitely is knowledge check because you have to know how to respond to when he ults. Too many people fail to kite him out when he pops it which gets them killed. Fiora too. You must play around the riposte.

lethality kled is a banger lol. hell, if you feel like spicing it up with a lil trolling or maybe if youre just ridiculously ahead you can get axiom too for spamming R
Question. You guys said Kled isn’t hard to play in this video but in your tier list for champions who are hard to play, you guys ranked him at the highest tier. So which is it?
Kled is a lane bully/skillcheck champ that doing ok until you hit like D4 and the champ just straight up trash since your kit is clunky, your E bugging and not following target, ult bug and going full looney toon, W sometime just decided not to do damage,Q hit box went reverse or straight up went through target while EQ and not being fix since 2019,... not just that , he got no late game uses, his win condition now is end before 20min or you're useless as fuck.
Things to know about illaoi: illaoi withot tentacle - weak, illaoi with tentacle - strong. If you fight her without a tentacle, you can kill her. If she ults, move away, she can’t follow. Go back in once the tentacles disappear. I as an illaoi player always win lane once the enemy jungler comes for a gank because it forces the top laner to fight me too so I have an easy time using E and R.
That is them trusting Blind will take care of skills too. I mean everyone saw enough Garens to know they spin around stunned even. Btw I hate enemy Garens when I am Leona sup... Not many tools against it, bug they always make it a pride point of making me their personal enemy. I mean buzz off,I have mages and adcs to shut down... Rude... :D
This is why it is so hard for new players to get into this 10+ years game with over 155+ champions and new ones have abilities with 4 paragraph long kit lmao
Okay, you hide in minion wave and don't let Illaoi to land her E, then she just Q the wave and pokes you down and when you go for cs, she E you. And we are humans after all and if she lands one E, the lane is over. You have to go to your t1 turret to be out of her E range, then you get chased by her tentacles for 10 seconds. Her E cd is like 13 seconds, so she shoves the wave while you are dodging tentacles under your turret and after that, you have 0 minions on your side to hide behind and so you stay under your t1 tower and lose farm, because you can't get closer without being hit by E that is available again. You can't hide because there are no minions and you can't dodge, because you are under your tower and there us not much space to move. Then surely she lands another E under your t1 turret because of the reasons I mentioned earlier and then you are forced to go under your t2 turret to be out of her E range and then dodge her tentacles. She gets platings, he shoves waves, you lose xp, because you are being attacked by her tentacles under your t2 (not literally under t2 turret, but you are forced to go far enough, so you lose xp). What do I do in these kind of situations? Ask for jungler help? While being attacked between t1 and t2 turrets? But still, if I'm somehow not being harassed under my turret and my jungler comes, Illaoi is a champion, that can easily 1v2. Attack her mana pool? Corruption potion and she basically has mana for everything. How do I counter this? It feels like it's impossible. I know she is falling off as the game goes, but it's not interactive at all to play against her. She gets fed no matter what, because you can't contest minions or even your own turret platings.
And also I played Illaoi a few times myself. And guess what? I did exactly the same thing. I missed a few Es, but when I finally landed it, enemy laner was forced to back off, while I was free to shove the wave to make landing next E almost guaranteed. And even if he hides behind his minions, it makes even easier for me to land my Q, because it has giant hit boxes. What my opponent should have done to get out off laning phase without being 100 cs and 2 levels behind even without deaths?
Interesting, I thought the Illaoi knowledge check was that if you get E’d, you shouldn’t be scared and run away, instead most of the time you can actually contest it as long as you dodge the actual tentacles.
I mean, an Illaoi will not fight you without a tentacle nearby, and the spirit triggers the slam every few seconds. So if you fight her, she'll move around the spirit and use W on it so more slams. The damage the spirit transmits to you usually works for a good trade
The reason why Illaoi is a huge knowledge check is: every single one of her abilities is a knowledge check. Passive: kill the tentacles and only try to kill her when there's NONE around her, or else you'll see the true meaning of damage. Q: you might think that you're safe, you might even be thinking that you can go base, but one press of that shit and you'll take a ton of damage and your minions will be GONE. W: stay behind the minions, or your soul will suffer the consequences. E: mixes with the passive. If she has tentacles around, she WILL kill you wity two or three presses of this button. R: you thought you were safe, but nah, now you're surrounded by tentacles again, ready to suffer one of the most devastating attacs in this game.
To be fair to the gwen, most of her damage is frontloaded into her Q so that's probably why they started it against an unfamiliar champ. She probably figured she could just outdo any lvl1 dmg you had if she had her Q up. Tbh she almost *did*. If you had been any later on your timing she would have killed you first. I still think she'd have been better served starting E instead, but I can definitely see her train of thought.
Knowledgechecking an Ilaoi was no issue for me since s6. I *_chadchecked_* her by forcing her into a fight when she hit an E. 80% of my opposing Ilaois chicken'd when they realized for them to get some hits off, they also bleed for it as well...
Tbh I wish they would rebalance illaoi so all of her power wasn't in her E. It's kinda dumb that if you dodge it she does nothing, but if you don't, she can kill you even if she's 0/5. Plus it's only on a 12-16s cd depending on level without cdr, so if you dodge this one, she just throws another one over and over.
In the Kled clip, it'd be helpful if you explained what his W did. I don't play Kled so I had to go lookup what it did instead of getting it all in one video.
Another knowledge check champ in low elo is anivia. Or atleast thats what i experienced. Litterally noone thinks about my passive, when they jump onto me in the middle of a huge minion wave, just because im low. If i can land a q e ignite combo before i get into egg form, its an almost guaranteed kill. In almost every second match it gives me a free first blood. Idk about higher elo, but in g1 thats certainly the case .
This is nice but I wish they explained what abilities did. Like saying E or Q is nice but if I’ve never played the champ before who knows if that’s a dash, or if the thing even does damage and how it works. Like I didn’t understand the entire Kled explanation cause I don’t know how kled dismounts, if his q is ranged or does damage, if the E deals damage or is just a dash, etc. Also wtf is Yorick’s E you kept saying it but I have no clue which one it is. Is it the summon minion thing?
Interestingly enough, Fiora is also a knowledge check champion. I'm not just talking about how to play around her vitals (which a lot of people know about), but W (riposte) has an extremely long CD, and most champions can just beat her down when she doesn't have it. The biggest mistake most players make into Fiora is that they do not bait and abuse her when she doesn't have W.
what i understood from this video: as kled you can disrespect the ennemy lvl 2 all-in if they take the wrong first spell and then win a fight with 50 hp cause the ennemy messed up the fight (joke! but it couldve been)
Yorick can't actually control maiden, she just follows him around. You can poke her down if he's not managing her position perfectly. She also dies when Yorick dies. He'll be significantly weaker for a while so you can get alot more of a lead against him from a single gank.
If you have a single ranged ability, you can. Also, Yorick's Maiden shoves the wave automatically. Fight her under your turret between CS. He'll have to either pull her away, or choose to dive you and lose her.
@@nathanielmohr9622 if the yorick is bad he will most likely try to dive you but if he knows he will pull since he already push lane frocinf the oponent to either recall or stay in a very dangerous situation, in my opinion when playing yorick is always better to let them push wave then land e then r and after that you go for w and q
Honestly, on illioi her w is also quite scary when you have a sheen item. Because its max heath damage plus sheen. And even when you stand in minions, she can still hit you with q because its easyer to hit when someone is standing in a minion wave. Because they most likely get creepblocked so they can't dodge. And her q might be clunky, but it's not that different from mordekaiser q. Literally wait till they used their movement ability, And its a free hit
@@darkgoblin5681 I usually use my e to bait out their dash, ans q right after to garantee a hit. And sometimes I follow up with w to really chunk them. I find that this playstyle really works. Especially when you thin out the enemy wave to sutch a point they have almost no minions to hide behind
As an Illaoi main here are some quick tips to help you against Illaoi (aka shit I hate when my opponents do) 1# pick Yasuo, Cassiopea or Ekko, literally unplayable matchups (windwall e then all in, go Cassi with crystalsceptre and run her down or e dodge her e and all in wih Ekko dash, all conviniently in one ability) 2# If Illaoi misses e all in her, if she e + ult you flash out and run the fk away then re-engage after curse + R runs out 3# Build grevious wounds, raw damage or especially slows to really capitalize on running her down when she misses her e 4: You're not safe under turret, focus on dodging e, try very hard to not path against the wall while under turret and pretend to last hit and just as you see e animation path away from it. You'll have about an 16-12 second window to relax and farm before the next e comes out
What if the enemy just holds onto their key ability forever? Like in the yorick example, fiora has to keep her only source of engage if you hold onto the e forever
@@Nn-3 I think fiora loose on the trade on minion, the Yorick q spell hit very hard, and it can be hard to reach vitals without fiora's. Even more, Yorick can cage fiora and force her to q spell and then use e. And this is not even compting the damage of his maiden. I might be wrong tho. I can see only a way for fiora to win is to instant ult on melee but you can't do that all time.
@@senatelayer6166 The mark is not applied, just how the mark from Zed's death mark is not applied. And she can also parry the jump from the ghouls which is the bulk of the damage.
@@kirvesarcheage2235 Kled as a knowledge check I understand, but yorick? If you even consider yourself a top main and dont know this you have alot to learn, about alot of things. Yoricks are pretty common
With illaoi I have a fun story. I'm new to league and have only seen illaoi 4 times, but I swear it's been the same player. I see this illaoi completely dominating lane, not writing anything in chat or pinging. Afterwards, I hear "the enemies inhibitor has been destroyed" but don't really acknowledge it. While in a teamfight, which we normally lose because it's mostly 4v5, we suddenly win by the enemies having their health bar reduced in a matter of seconds. This happenes a few times, except when contesting dragon. We take the enemy mid inhib just to see their nexus towers either down or damaged. Shortly before the game ends illaoi either gets a triple or Quadra and I finally realize we've been carried. I don't give her an honor cause I don't think she did too much, just being a little bit fed, only to see her stand with more than 20 kills, less than 3 deaths and about 5 assists. I'll try to update this comment everytime I see something like that again.
Ah yeah, the good old "dodge E" advice. I like how rumble is staying behind minions, but suddenly illaoi just clears the entire wave and hits E. Didn't think about that one, rumble, did you? Yeah right, should have stayed behind your minions. Oh you did? Well too bad, you should have played better. Sorry I got salty.
Not trying to be a nagging Nancy here but actually wondering now. What if illaoi just pushes and farms but never uses her E until you go in. Which you won't do until she misses her E? Does she just get to have more control over the wave now?
I feel like these days Illaoi is the only champ here who isn't really a knowledge check anymore. She's gotten so many direct and indirect buffs over the years, and he has very few bad matchups. It's easy to deal with her at first, but once she starts to get items and experience she becomes extremely oppressive, especially if you're playing a melee champion. At that point, how the hell can you even farm against her? Even if she dies, she's not going to care if she's gotten 5 plates, 2 towers, and is at least 80 CS up on you, and since she'll be one-shotting your waves, it's not like you can just turtle behind your creeps. Actually ridiculous. I think she needs a nerf, Iceborn Gauntlet needs a nerf, and Hullbreaker also needs a nerf.
With yorick, I have a hard time recognizing his E so I can dodge. So it's not so much getting knowledge checked but rather just sucking at it. I suffer against yorick. It's just so painful because I have such a hard time dodging his E.
@@adriankor28 It's not about its speed, but about it's visual. It always seem too faint. I can barely see it. When I manage to recognize it, it's already too late.
I am just a GOLD but If you don’t know, Gwen can’t get stack if she don’t have the ability unlocked, so I am kinda scary even in first 2 min you will not teach me nothing. :( If she start with E she will not get any stacks under mana pool
I like the idea focus yorick ult down and live. But that thing has tons of health and getting close to it means you are close to yorick. Waaaay easier said than done
As an Illaoi OTP, I can still create opportunities to play around MY OWN E if the enemy is aware of it, or use their instinct to run away against them. Leaving the soul tether range makes you a vessel anyway and prematurely kills the spirit, which spawns tentacles and causes them to start slapping. This effectively takes you out of CSing or the lane for like 8 whole seconds without fail, which quickly builds up over time. For perspective, if I land my E 4 times on you in lane, even if I never kill the soul or do much damage to it, you have effectively been AFK for over half a minute, which is going to result in getting very behind. Furthermore, it's easier to land E on ganking junglers than the top laner because the jungler is likely not "trained" yet to dodge the E, which still results in an easy 1v2. In some cases, if I have a sheen item built, I can also simply W spam someone to death because I'm playing off their fear of landing E, which usually prevents them from playing optimally or fighting back in short trades because the threat of getting soul pulled alone makes them more concerned with sidestepping. And, of course, Serylda's Grudge/Iceborn fixes the champion, and it becomes smooth sailing ♥
So what is the response to an Illaoi that doesnt use her E and uses it to keep pressure? if you try to push the lane she gets the freeze you get ganked and die, if you decide to not push she gets to bully you from gold and xp, If you decide to somehow kill its tentacles you get hit by the E cause no minions ever go out to near walls. Oh not to mention she can literally just use W and Q to kill squishy champs. I honestly think they should change the e mechanic again. plus if I remember correctly she can E right after she lands her first e as the CD gets very low.
Mordekaiser is hard to face smotimes bc he deals too much damage and tanks too much, but he is immobile and has really long cds, so if the lane is pushed and he does not have that many minions+ he wasted his E and W just kill him, unless he is fed then just safely farm, also his skills are decently easy to dodge.
This is why I didn't feel it counted when as a silver 2 player I used Heimerdinger to climb to gold 2. Unrelated, but the next season I decided to get there with Yasuo instead and finally got there.
I disagree with your Yorick knowledge check. The most important ability to take note of is how many graves Yorick has. If you hit E, a 0-2 ghoul leap does barely anything, especially since fiora can easily 1-2 them with aa+Q or E. When Yorick has critical mass of graves, ONLY then should Fiora be really aware of the E threat. The way to play around THIS knowledge check is that you can actually hit E first and THEN activate ghouls since E is a lingering mark, which McBaze could have done in the second clip by E'ing and then Ulting (since maiden auto spawns 4 ghouls). McBaze had good thinking to try hitting E for the slow to buy more time, and normally this would work, but vs spammy dashes, slows lose alot of utility. At the very least, he should have saved the last E cd for the ult and bursted Fiora down, since she definitely wouldn't have expected Sunderer Q, maiden aa and % hp on aa, and 4 empowered ghouls
The latter part can be true, but not all champions can easy AA-reset/Q for two ghouls So I'd say even 2 minions' worth of dmg is best not to be taken if you're a Teemo (waste your AA one ghoul, Q to hit either him or 2nd ghoul, you'll still take dmg) Then there's people who alrdy suck at dodging for some reason want to take bone plating over revitalise
I know exactly how illaoi works bit still i dont like playing against her and still lose more often then not, i play mostly melee champs so i cannot punish her hard enough without getting ymself at risk by her E and if she misses she can farm with Q or stand on her tentacles and trade me back if i go in to hard and then she wins the trade with her slam and the minnions going on me. not to mention having to run out of the spirit range while under tower makes you miss Exp sometimes which makes the lane so much harder because just hitting E gives her either a lot of damage or an exp advantage and the cooldown get so low so quick that most of the time she doesnt miss much if she backs up right away until it is back up to threaten me.
Even tho i completely agree with Kled and Yorick, i must say that everybody knows what illaoi does, unlike this rumble. Unless you're like level 50, you know what illaoi does because if you played against her once, you can easily guess what she does, approximately (like W triggers tentacles, not like how ult works or Tentacle hit spirits). But even then, there's so many unmentioned intricaties (idk im not english) with illaoi that she is indeed the number 1 knowledge check champ
The worst part about this is that the sole fact of not being able to win against them if you don't know the details and that basically killed the game for one of my friends that just started the game.
That's why bot games exist. It's easier to learn the basics when you're up against the same handful of champions every time. Going straight to PvP often kills it right away.

believe it or not, learning how the enemy champion works is also part of the game and not a pity stick. I got obliterated by a vexx midlane cuz I've no idea what that champion is and the new champions have like three different passives and two ults from various champions that bypass minions and aims straight at you. meanwhile as Ziggs I've got none of that luxury.
Problem with Illaoi for me is that I win my lane but then she kills my entire team during teamfights because they don't back off when she ults :/ And she has no kills and she is far behind in minions at that point, but you know, she is Illaoi. I think I need to get better at killing her even more, and then deny every single minion once I get far enough ahead?

I watched that video too. Really good guide as well
His video on playing vs illaoi is so good
@@cliffy223 But it's not hard to counter.

How to counter every champions most important ability: *Gwen is immune*
@@bbbk123 Was thinking "wow this post didn't age well after CDR rework" just realized it was posted 8 days ago 💀

But if you know that they will need to use all of their burst to get you dismounted you can level up your w afterwards and just smash them to a pulp and remount.
just use lethal tempo
that one rune turns proficiency/skill/knowledge you need to play kled drops into master yis
@@ozan____ lethal tempo is better for long drawn out trades something he’s not very proficient at, conqueror gives three extra dmg and healing he needs to survive any all in.
It’s like hail of blades vs lethal tempo. Lethal tempo is for the long drawn out fights and hail of blades is for the quick burst of dmg. Think of it as an Ashe with lethal for a trist with hail. Trist can easily burst with E+HOb but an Ashe with lethal tempo will output more dps overtime than tristana

This is a huge problem imo. Players don't know how to deal with 7-year-old champs, but Riot keeps adding new ones with more and more complicated kits.

It’s impossible to list every single one, obviously, but you could at least give more explanation with the examples you gave.
I might be wrong on that.)
As for Kled his W is an attack speed steroid. It gives him a lot of attack speed and the final stack does bonus physical damage. It can stack up to four times. At rank 1 it has a 14 second cool down. It is used up against *anything* he autos. You can tell when it is up of his sword his glowing.
@@abcdefghilihgfedcba I mean just look at what happen when he e??
@@abcdefghilihgfedcba Yorick E makes all of his henchmen jump onto you and focus you, dealing a bunch of damage
It auto-shoves the lane meaning he can't freeze or farm under tower, so it makes him very vulnerable to being ganked or all-in down the long lane.
poke against immobile champions: lock them in W and use E to send 4 ghouls inside, then spam CTRL+3
i call this poke technique " Ultimate Disrespect!™ "
thx I just got decimated by a Yorick that literally had 38% win rate with garen top lane but had a fucking 57% winrate with Yorick, and no it's not because he's otp Yorick he literally started playing this season, this will help me a lot against future Yorick players
That alone will cause half of Yorick's E to miss naturally, sparing whoever the opponent is to pay attention to other things.)
The killing of maiden is just an idea.
That and he's 1/4 after a 1/0 gifted start past the early laning stage which is when Yorick needs the most help.
Your tips suck btw
old morde was the absolute king of knowledge checkers. His W was unmatched in confusing interactions. He could damn near build any item at the time too. I loved going banner of command first item to shut down the "vlad counter pick". Good luck autoing that buffed cannon minion to death.
"Just dodge blitz hook. It's literally his entire kit. Stop getting knowledge checked and just dodge his hook, noob"
Juggernaut took to extreme of the definition. Can't get close to you but when she is she can outdamage pretty much anyone
I love how I saw this thumbnail and I said: "Oh look my champ pool!"
I’d include the absurd damage the maiden does with it’s passive, if you hit the same target you do a percerage of their max health as magic damage woth a very low cooldown, so the e is gonna mean even more, but you can play around that in teamfights if the e hits someone else or the maiden is hitting someone else
More match-up guides would be great.
As Xpetu said about Illaoi: "Dodge her e or dodge the game"
There are 2 more knowledge checks I'd like to point out: Teemo and Urgot
> Urgot is simple: build Warden's Mail and his W will barely do any damage, since this item reduces flat amount of damage from each tick of his W
> For Teemo, you should run some combination of Doran's shield + Second wind + Spectre's Cowl + Revitalize. The thing is, his poison refreshes these healing effects, so you can sometimes heal out more than his E's damage, basically negating his poke
Revitalize does not affect HP Regeneration over time effects
@@nathanielmohr9622 Now that I've read about it, you're right: all of the effects are named technically don't heal you, instead increasing your health regen, which is not affected by revitalize. So, thanks for pointing that out.

Urgot's real knowledge check is whether or not you know how to dodge E. Even if you don't buy wardens mail, if you dont get hit by urgot's E he wont be able to get shotguns off and will do 0 damage

As an illaoi otp i will say its hard to play her plat and above cause everyone knows how she works the only reason shes not the worst champ in the game is cause she has the 4th highet gold earned of any champion in the game and so she is always alot of gold on her
Eh think it’s easier before Diamond one the difference is anything lower make ton of mistakes
Two tips I got from experience against Yorick:
- When in lane against him, if he lands his E, go near the little coffins in the ground.
So, if the game is long, keep killing him non stop.
the first tip is ok,
but the rest is technically incorrect
Knowledge checking a diver(s) under turret as Zilean is 👌

I agree with most of this except Illaoi. The number of games I have seen an 0/0/0 Illaoi with even CS win a 1v1, and even 1v2 after missing her E because her opponents decided to fight her in her ultimate is insane. I would say like Yorick she also is one where you need to know to get out of her ult instead of just eating the multiple tentacle slams.

You should see the Teemos I smash on Garen, funny as hell. They always blind me and then proceed to get smashed by my E. LOL
That was more of the case a while back when you actually could make the spirit go away faster by contesting damage with the Illaoi.
@@heyfell4301 How is standing behind minions gonna help against her W? Don't you mean E?
@@Geheimnis-c2e wait... I think it is. Sorry, I haven't played her in a long time, I forgot the inputs.
First statement is untrue at least for lv 1. Gwen has one of the strongest lv 1 if starting e. This Gwen just didn't know what they were doing
Not covered in this video: How a Gold Team Knowledge Checked McBaze 4 times (see kda as video progresses for Yorick)
dont forget about McBaze not knowing that gwen has Q level 1 when she has a huge indicator under her health bar.
1:30 you can tell gwen started q before she even casts it, as she doesn't get q stacks if the ability isnt leveled
Since you didn’t realize Gwen started Q level 1, I don’t think she could build her stacks if she doesn’t have at least one point in Q.
Wish you would have went in to more detail about the "E" on the last two heroes
Kled is so much fun! It’s also hilarious when you know your limits and you walk into a 1v3 and still win
Remember when yorick got nerfed because people didnt know what he did. As a yorick main. I was very pissed off
Then Ruination comes and Yorick is a waterboy... That was not very nice as well.
Or when they dive you under tower with passive active ive gotten double kills cause of it(jg ganked)
Why did the tentacle hit rumble at 8:58? Ilaoi didnt use e and q doesnt make it hit no?
Absolutely GOD-tier content, probably the best video format for a bad player like me lmao and the toplane is full of this kind of champions!
The biggest mistake most players make into Fiora is that they do not bait and abuse her when she doesn't have W.
what i understood from this video: as kled you can disrespect the ennemy lvl 2 all-in if they take the wrong first spell and then win a fight with 50 hp cause the ennemy messed up the fight
(joke! but it couldve been)
Literally kled in a nutshell
There is no way i will be able to kill the yorick ult in time without dying unless I'm fed.
Why do you destroy my champion pool like that, whyyyy ?!?
Honestly, on illioi her w is also quite scary when you have a sheen item. Because its max heath damage plus sheen. And even when you stand in minions, she can still hit you with q because its easyer to hit when someone is standing in a minion wave. Because they most likely get creepblocked so they can't dodge. And her q might be clunky, but it's not that different from mordekaiser q. Literally wait till they used their movement ability, And its a free hit
Yeah but get your e baited out and you just die because the cd is so long. A good player won't just dash into you on Illaoi.
@@darkgoblin5681 I usually use my e to bait out their dash, ans q right after to garantee a hit. And sometimes I follow up with w to really chunk them. I find that this playstyle really works. Especially when you thin out the enemy wave to sutch a point they have almost no minions to hide behind
As an Illaoi main here are some quick tips to help you against Illaoi (aka shit I hate when my opponents do)
1# pick Yasuo, Cassiopea or Ekko, literally unplayable matchups (windwall e then all in, go Cassi with crystalsceptre and run her down or e dodge her e and all in wih Ekko dash, all conviniently in one ability)
2# If Illaoi misses e all in her, if she e + ult you flash out and run the fk away then re-engage after curse + R runs out
3# Build grevious wounds, raw damage or especially slows to really capitalize on running her down when she misses her e
4: You're not safe under turret, focus on dodging e, try very hard to not path against the wall while under turret and pretend to last hit and just as you see e animation path away from it. You'll have about an 16-12 second window to relax and farm before the next e comes out
What if the enemy just holds onto their key ability forever? Like in the yorick example, fiora has to keep her only source of engage if you hold onto the e forever
If you're standing beside your minions, then it should basically be a free engage. Yorick will need to get close if he wants to farm.
Fiora can also parry Yorick's E.
@@shinji136 Fiora can parry the damage from yorick's e, which is rather minor. The mark is still applied and ghouls will still jump.
@@senatelayer6166 The mark is not applied, just how the mark from Zed's death mark is not applied. And she can also parry the jump from the ghouls which is the bulk of the damage.
Ey, stop teaching people how to play against my lovely yorick, I enjoy my free lp and I wouldn't appreciate if this situation changes :
i mean, yoricks other strength is he punishes bad macro really hard and hes an absolute menace split pushing
@@kirvesarcheage2235 Kled as a knowledge check I understand, but yorick? If you even consider yourself a top main and dont know this you have alot to learn, about alot of things. Yoricks are pretty common
@@duc2133 I hardly see that champ tbh
@@Eminence_1337 i have only seen that champ once
@@duc2133 what server do you play on? (And elo could also be a factor)
Yorick E is extremely slow. Try to play him yourself. It's a really hard skill shot with low dmg on its own.
@@adriankor28 It's not about its speed, but about it's visual. It always seem too faint. I can barely see it. When I manage to recognize it, it's already too late.
@@adriankor28 It's only slow from a distance. It's a projectile, which makes it pretty hard to dodge in melee range.
I think I got trapped in his circle more often than getting hit by E when I used to play. Then I get run down and die. :\
I play mostly illaoi rn so not only do I get knowledge checked hard by yorik but his W completely cucks my w.
I am just a GOLD but If you don’t know, Gwen can’t get stack if she don’t have the ability unlocked, so I am kinda scary even in first 2 min you will not teach me nothing. :( If she start with E she will not get any stacks under mana pool
I find it funny how often Challenger players get Knowledge Checked, you would think they would know how to play the game but they really don't.
Feel like Heimerdinger is a knowledge checker too as a Heimer player myself
I feel like you missed a big and very obvious one with Illaoi: when she ults, do your best to walk away, immediately.
I like the idea focus yorick ult down and live. But that thing has tons of health and getting close to it means you are close to yorick. Waaaay easier said than done
The thing with yorick is they usually don't do anything fancy in lane but their jungler will give them herald and boom we have an open inhibitor
"He is fighting me in my spirit"
Its not your spirit.
And, of course, Serylda's Grudge/Iceborn fixes the champion, and it becomes smooth sailing ♥
what about zilean? it feels like it's impossible to get a lead against him
So what is the response to an Illaoi that doesnt use her E and uses it to keep pressure? if you try to push the lane she gets the freeze you get ganked and die, if you decide to not push she gets to bully you from gold and xp, If you decide to somehow kill its tentacles you get hit by the E cause no minions ever go out to near walls. Oh not to mention she can literally just use W and Q to kill squishy champs. I honestly think they should change the e mechanic again. plus if I remember correctly she can E right after she lands her first e as the CD gets very low.
i always struggle vs mordekaiser. no matter what i do, i cant win. is there something that i dont know about his kit?
Mordekaiser is hard to face smotimes bc he deals too much damage and tanks too much, but he is immobile and has really long cds, so if the lane is pushed and he does not have that many minions+ he wasted his E and W just kill him, unless he is fed then just safely farm, also his skills are decently easy to dodge.
"Just play around her e, stay behind minions"
Illaoi casually clearing waves with 2 abilities at pretty much any level:
This is why I didn't feel it counted when as a silver 2 player I used Heimerdinger to climb to gold 2.
Unrelated, but the next season I decided to get there with Yasuo instead and finally got there.
Damn now I feel like a fool
team mate knowledge check : Thresh
First one is cool, but what makes you think I know what Gwen E does? I don’t like her aesthetic or abilities so I have never really played her
I disagree with your Yorick knowledge check.
The latter part can be true, but not all champions can easy AA-reset/Q for two ghouls
So I'd say even 2 minions' worth of dmg is best not to be taken if you're a Teemo (waste your AA one ghoul, Q to hit either him or 2nd ghoul, you'll still take dmg)
Then there's people who alrdy suck at dodging for some reason want to take bone plating over revitalise
@@LunarEdge7 yes the point was that the enemy was fiora so she CAN.
about illaoi, so how do you deal with her as melee champ, because she would just hold her e until you decide to engage on her
I know exactly how illaoi works bit still i dont like playing against her and still lose more often then not, i play mostly melee champs so i cannot punish her hard enough without getting ymself at risk by her E and if she misses she can farm with Q or stand on her tentacles and trade me back if i go in to hard and then she wins the trade with her slam and the minnions going on me. not to mention having to run out of the spirit range while under tower makes you miss Exp sometimes which makes the lane so much harder because just hitting E gives her either a lot of damage or an exp advantage and the cooldown get so low so quick that most of the time she doesnt miss much if she backs up right away until it is back up to threaten me.
Four horsemen of Knowledge Checks: Gwen, Kled (especially the sustain build), Yorick (1-hit Eclipse), and the accurate Illaoi
The worst part about this is that the sole fact of not being able to win against them if you don't know the details and that basically killed the game for one of my friends that just started the game.
That's why bot games exist. It's easier to learn the basics when you're up against the same handful of champions every time. Going straight to PvP often kills it right away.
I used to be a jngl main but now i moved to top for +3 months i play only shen have a win rate of +70% (and lp gain of 16 per win.....)and do that i play around enemy abillitys, waves ,heral and ganks with r+tp win evry line match exept 2 urgor (my perma ban) and tahm those 2 have 0 openings i cant think of a way to trade i been under turret go +-12 farm by 10 min and focuse only on r and tp eny suggestions on there weak points?
Does yorick ult cd start when casted or when it dies
Great video! I never really understood how kled works. And I tried to dive him as a jungler... Didn't go well
illaoi in general isnt a stat check champ cuz all she needs is her ultimate, land her e, or be around her passive.
she unapproachable in general
The biggest thing I knowledge check is idiot junglers thinking they can gank a lvl 6 mord
Ohh man, this was my number one "request" when I was sub to skillcapped. Every video started with a "Gameplan". But what if you didn't understand who is strong when? This content should help
believe it or not, learning how the enemy champion works is also part of the game and not a pity stick. I got obliterated by a vexx midlane cuz I've no idea what that champion is and the new champions have like three different passives and two ults from various champions that bypass minions and aims straight at you. meanwhile as Ziggs I've got none of that luxury.
Your bombs go boing boing tho so if a yasuo dodges them by luck you die :)
Problem with Illaoi for me is that I win my lane but then she kills my entire team during teamfights because they don't back off when she ults :/
And she has no kills and she is far behind in minions at that point, but you know, she is Illaoi.
I think I need to get better at killing her even more, and then deny every single minion once I get far enough ahead?
i'm low elo, used to otp illaoi, people would rage saying the champ is stupid, i would reply "dude just dodge e and i'm done"
