Christians. Why on earth is everyone so upset? The song may be classified as secular, but there is nothing bad about it. No bad words or impure innuendos. Just a song. One that thousands of girls listen to all the time. Can you imagine if two of those girls saw this, loved it, and then listened to their other music? It could change lives. You were right to say that serving God should become our cheif end, just like it says in 1John 2:15: "Do not love the world or the things in the world. I think these, combined with the several verses you listed, provide more than enough of a sound scriptural basis for that satement. However, there are a couple of things I want to say in regards to the issue: First, if we only keep to ourselves and the church, then how do we witness to other people? I cannot remember the exact passage, and if could tell me that would be great, but I know that the Bible says to be in the world, but not of it. What I mean is that we should be out witnessing to people through every way possible, so long as it does not involve doing something which does not bring God glory and honor. Something I learned from reading How Should We Then Live? by Francis Schaeffer is that music is a great vehicle of thoughts and worldviews. This leads partially into my second point. My second point is that I can actually hear a message which can be taken as arguably Christian throughout the song. These guys have no desire to be a part of the world anymore, but I think what they are doing can have positive ramifications. Let me expalin. I actually felt similarly to you at first, but I saw someone say something interesting in a previous comment. They posed this rough scenario: Suppose someone who is not a Christian comes accross this video, and/or the other one they did from David Dunn's channel. Now suppose they are impressed with this, (because their voices are amazing!) and decide to check out more of their music. This could feasibly be used by God to then lead them in the direction of being saved, correct? In this case, then, we see the possibility of God using something "secular" for His glory and honor. I appreciate you desire to serve the Lord whole-heartedly. In fact, I find it refreshing! But I also don't think there is necessarily anything worng with what they did, so long as, like you said, they are fully commited to Jesus Christ. Christians. Why on earth is everyone so upset? The song may be classified as secular, but there is nothing bad about it. No bad words or impure innuendos. Just a song. One that thousands of girls listen to all the time. Can you imagine if two of those girls saw this, loved it, and then listened to their other music? It could change lives. I also do not see what is wrong with this, so long as their lives have, as you said, been fully surrendured to Christ. You were right to say that serving God should become our cheif end, just like it says in 1John 2:15: "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him," and in Colossians 3:2: "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." I think these, combined with the several verses you listed, provide more than enough of a sound scriptural basis for that satement.
However, there are a couple of things I want to say in regards to the issue: First, if we only keep to ourselves and the church, then how do we witness to other people? I cannot remember the exact passage, and if could tell me that would be great, but I know that the Bible says to be in the world, but not of it. What I mean is that we should be out witnessing to people through every way possible, so long as it does not involve doing something which does not bring God glory and honor. Something I learned from reading How Should We Then Live? by Francis Schaeffer is that music is a great vehicle of thoughts and worldviews. This leads partially into my second point.
My second point is that I can actually hear a message which can be taken as arguably Christian throughout the song. These guys have no desire to be a part of the world anymore, but I think what they are doing can have positive ramifications. Let me expalin.
I actually felt similarly to you at first, but I saw someone say something interesting in a previous comment. They posed this rough scenario: Suppose someone who is not a Christian comes accross this video, and/or the other one they did from David Dunn's channel. Now suppose they are impressed with this, (because their voices are amazing!) and decide to check out more of their music. This could feasibly be used by God to then lead them in the direction of being saved, correct? In this case, then, we see the possibility of God using something "secular" for His glory and honor.
I appreciate you desire to serve the Lord whole-heartedly. In fact, I find it refreshing! But I also don't think there is necessarily anything worng with what they did, so long as, like you said, they are fully commited to Jesus Christ.
