    Traveling for the first time outside the Midwest with my young daughter. Never flew in my life. This helped me. Thank you.

    I haven't flown in 10 years and will be going to this airport soon. Thank you so much for this info!

    I have been to IND 15-20 times at least, as everyone who flies into IND knows how much I love to go there. One day I'll fly out of there, but my flying is usually internationally to AMS, BRU or DUS, and it's cheaper to just drive to ORD. I love the airport, though, and I'm glad to see a little of the air side of things in this video.

    Don’t know if it will still work, but several years ago I was there with my daughter, and she was dancing around under those motion lights that you showed briefly at the end of the video. She was delighted with the way they reacted to her movements and the patterns and sounds. After about 30 seconds or so of this, the whole grid lit up in a multi-colored wave from end to end and the sound system started playing “Le Freak” by Chic.

    I worked at IND before and during Covid. Pre covid, Delta also had one daily flight to MCO, RDU, SLC, LAX, SEA, and even CDG. Delta nearly rivaled American and Southwest with their frequency and to this day, Delta has yet to bring back their full pre pandemic IND service. Man…IND got it rough when Covid came.

    Delta operates a flight to Paris (CDG), which was suspended due to Covid. It has not picked back up, however I believe it is scheduled to.

    Imagine if ATA or Northwest were still around they would probably have to add another new concourse. America Trans Air was Indy's flagship home based carrier. Sadly ,it never made it to the new terminal. Use to see the a lot of those big ATA Lockheed 1011's and 757 jets flying over were I lived everyday. Even NWA. Yeah, those were the days. Since the non stop to Paris was a success due to market demand I'm optimistic it's just a matter of time before IND sees another non stop trans Atlantic route open up once again especially after the new runway reopens designed to accomodate more heavy aircraft long term. Every week you can see both Cargolux and Atlas 747's flying in and out of the airport mainly for cargo. Occasionally you will see Atlas charter a passenger 747. Normally they will be parked at the northside the airport. 747's are a rare sight these days but Indy is one of the few airports that is visted by them. I have to meet up with one of those planes every week which has become a routine for me. Last year was the last time Boeing produced the 747. I still prefer them over the A380's.

    I think I saw that you had said CLT is also connected to IND on Frontier. That is actual incorrect

      At the time I researched the video, they offered three flights a week to Charlotte, but indeed, their current "service" to Charlotte connects in Orlando first.

    Do they have any international flights to like London or to china

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're a parcel, sure! Cargo flights go both places! As a passenger, London Heathrow was historically offered, as I recall, but not currently.

    Base on the number of passengers and arrivals/departures IND is rated as a medium size airport. I understand that they’re currently expanding the runways. However I’m not too sure that the airport has the capability to expand its terminal.

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indianapolis is 16th out or 35th in terms of traffic for medium hubs, putting it square in the middle of the middle. How Indianapolis!

      Around the opening of the new airport in 2011, I was told Concourse A and B can each accommodate ten additional gates which would pull the total up to 60 gates. Longer term, it is designed to accommodate an additional detached concourse in an x shape that would have 40 gates. (Think of the D gates at Las Vegas for the general idea.) So at its designed max capacity the Indy airport could accommodate 100 gates. They also have enough land to build a third parallel runway should they need it.

      @@sonofgunn25/ thx for the information. So glad to hear that our airport has the capability to expand.

    I’m pretty sure southwest is ahead of delta

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Southwest serves more passengers at IND than any other airline. Delta has more flights, but the planes are smaller, on average, so their passenger load is lower.

    you forgot sun country destanations.

    • @MilesByFoot
      @MilesByFoot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sun Country didn't, and still doesn't, have any year-round destinations, only seasonal flights to and from Minneapolis. When this is the case, I tend to leave them out of the video. My memory is, this time last year when I was in Indy, there were no flights on Sun Country.

      I'm sure it did...I had no idea Delta had so much service before COVID. Things are always changing though, and maybe some of that service (or brand new service) will be added!
