If you're diving into foreign languages, any song from" L'Héptade" from the French-Canadian Band "Harmonium". You'll gonna love it, before the lead singer quit because of major anxiety attack, they were as big as Supertramp in the USA.

"Can you get into music not in your language?" absolutely. Back in April, yoasobi (Japanese) took over with "Idol" Such a fantastic song. And if you didn't know better you would think its a happy song, but its pretty dark. a little while later they released a video in English as well. I don't speak japanese, but I (and millions other) enjoyed the hell out of that track. Rammstein is german and people all over the world love them.

    A lost soul,
    He lives but hardly talks
    He is waiting for her,
In front of this photo of former times
    He, he is not crazy
He believes in it, that's all
    He sees her everywhere
Standing, he is waiting for her
    A rose in his hand,
Apart from her, he is expecting nothing
    Nothing around him makes sense
    And the air feels heavy
    An absent expression,
He is alone, he often talks to her
    He, He is not crazy
    He loves her, that's all
    He sees her everywhere,
Standing, he is waiting for her
    A rose in his Hand,
No, nothing can hold him back now
    In his love story
    In his love story
    In his love story
    His love story
    Take my hand
Promise me that everything will be fine
    Hold me tight
Next to you, I still dream,
Yes, yes I want to stay,
But I don't know how to love anymore,
    I've been too stupid,
    Please, stop, stop
How much I regret, no, I didn't want all this,
    I would be rich and
And I'll offer you all my gold
    If you don't care, I
I, I'll be waiting for you in the port,
If you ignore me I, will offer you my last breathe of life,
    In my love story
    In my love story
    In my love story
    My love story
    A candle
    Can illuminate the night
    A smile
    Can build an empire
    And there is you
    And there is me,
    And nobody believes in it,
But love makes a fool turn into a king
And if you ignore me, I'd fight again and again
    It's your love story
    It's your love story
It's the story of a life
    Love story
    Shouts of joy
    Some tears, we're going
We live in this love story
    Love story
    Love story
    Love story
    Love story...

Diana Ankudinova's hit "dernière danse" is a actually a cover from.. Indila, who co-wrote the song. You pronounced "Inndila" correctly, and it is indeed a sad song.
In addition to "dernière danse" (first song in French to reach 1 billion views on TH-cam), you may want to check out "tourner dans le vide" (famous for bad reasons 🙂 ), "s.o.s.", "ego", "run run" (live in Paris), "ainsi bas la vida"..

To answer your question, yes, it is definitely possible to get into music that is not in your language; if it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful! Two examples for me is an Indian song that I heard while the credits were running in the Denzel Washington movie “Inside Man”, called “Chaiyya Chaiyya Bollywood Joint”; it’s got a killer beat, and “Magalenha” by Sergio Mendes, a famous Brazilian artist. My husband is of European descent, born in NJ, but lived in Brazil from age 4 to 17; lots of Brazilian music in my life over the past 30 plus years 😊 Also, as others have said, just about everything from the Gypsy Kings is fantastic!

I find I don’t understand most lyrics anyway and view the human voice more as an instrument. Sure I sometimes miss the meaning of I don’t understand the language but a great song is about conveying emotion, that way words don’t really matter, but do enhance

The vast majority of songs I listen to are sung in foreign languages: German, Norwegian, Finnish, Japanese, Spanish, Irish, etc. I don't have to understand the lyrics in order to love the songs.

  • @Phillphine
    @Phillphine 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Have you heard any Esperanza Spalding? American, but with Hispanic (latin? I don't know what's considered correct) background, so she does some songs in both Spanish and Portuguese. If you've ever heard the jazz standard, "body and soul", she does it in Spanish ("cuerto y alma" and her piano player nearly sets the piano on fire). Or in Portuguese, a song called "Porto de Areia(sp?)". Her version has a happy lilt to it, but if you look up the lyrics, meaning, or original song, it's actually pretty sad.
Edit: one more Esperanza Spalding. One that's not in any real language, "I adore you". I guess it would be considered vocalise. It's a good mood song. Like if you found a group of preschool kids who were somehow virtuoso musicians, and told them to write a song about candy, visiting grandma, playing with puppies and just being happy. This would probably be the song you'd get.

I can, but this one's a miss for me. I admit to having a bit of a prejudice against French pop since the time I spent at university there. I'd come from the height of London punk and found myself surrounded by Johnny Hallyday et al. Quel horreur! This is pleasant but.
