Hey Scott! I really appreciate your humility and openness to the Lord’s will and it’s something that I truly admire. Just one thing I’d like to suggest in regard to the reason why Catholics have closed communion. There’s actually an article by Joe Heschmeyer of Catholic Answers titled “Why did Jesus give Judas communion?” that gives a really good explanation on why Catholics don’t have open communion. Hope it helps, and God bless!

Calvins step daughter and son in law were not killed. Nor did Calvin institute a law banning people from disagreeing with him. You really should do more research on this. I know you dislike Calvin and Luther, but its not good to slander them unjustifiably.

Correct, his step daughter and son in law both died during an outbreak of the plague in 1549. However, in 1547 Calvin’s half sister Marie and brother in law Gérard Roussel were both drowned in the Rhône for the sin of adultery. And there is pretty established evidence that Calvin approved of the city of Genevas ruling and fought to defend their right to rule on Gods authority. So yeah, Calvin kinda sucked

I attend an Orthodox parish in Northern Colorado (St. Spyridon , Priest Fr. Evan Armatas) that is mainly convert. About 400 people.
    You aren’t by yourself.
30 years ago in California my friends Protestant church converted to Orthodox (my brother is a Deacon there now).
We have former Baptist and Lutheran pastors in our congregation as well as former atheists and Buddhists.
2 classes offered are Intro to Christianity and intro to Orthodoxy.
Closed communion isn’t only because people the Priest doesn’t know are at risk spiritually if they have not been to confession or don’t believe in Christ and are not decerning the body and blood of Christ (Biblical Standards).

I'm confused about when he said the priests were doing communion at his church? I'm fixing to become an Orthodox catechumen and while we are welcome to take part in the blessed bread, it is strictly not allowed to take communion unless you are a member of the Orthodox church. The Orthodox just like the Catholics are not an "open communion" type of church.

Dont worry this is just some foolhardy ecumenist heretic who thinks he is doing the right thing by allowing communion without Baptism.
You are correct. We Orthodox do NOT allow communion to those outside the body of Christ.
It is clear that some ecumenist nonsense is happening and glory to God that Priest who is behind it will properly be called out for his mistake.
No matter the good intentions we do not engage in any moving of the dogmas. The church fathers are clear and St Paul is also clear about this. Let those who preach a different Gospel and Christ be Anathema.
      May that Priest repent!

It's one of those awkward gray areas. Zoo town looks to be undergoing a mass conversion and this process is being overseen by Archbishop Alexander Golitzen and one of the OCA Bulgarian Diocese priests.
You're gonna see a lot of highly irregular stuff surrounding this until they're fully brought in. Until then we would do best to simply pray for Scott, his family, and the people he's leading.

I too found this a little odd. From what I can gather from varies sources is he has been provided a special liturgy for his parish where he gives and receives communion. I don't believe he is receiving communion at an Orthodox Church. However as Alex said this could be a grey area due to the eventual mass conversion of his entire parish. Take this with a grain of salt though I am just a lay person. It is not as clear here but in other interviews Scott Klaudt has indicated he is leaning more toward the Orthodox Church.

Wow. This was very good!! And so resonated with me! Bcz I was in his shoes too for many many years (sort of still am in a way). I was a Pentecostal charismatic international pastor and bishop. I too discerned between the two. I couldn’t decide for many years. I almost became orthodox, but then I became Catholic. And then after a few years, I regretted it and became orthodox. But after being Ortho for years and deeper further studies as an orthodox, I saw that they were still missing some things, and the proof pointed more towards Rome. Even many of their OWN eastern saints say this! And I couldn’t get around it anymore, so I came back home to Rome. I’ve been RC the last several years, But I sure do miss the Byzantine liturgy and all of that! I do miss things about EO as well. I now think Both churches are good and pretty much the same thing that they should just come back together. I’ve studied both for many years and from both sides of the fence for many many years and very in depth and at a deep theological level… and I see pros and cons of each and I agree and disagree with both too.
So…basically everything that both of you say in this video, I have also been saying the same things for many years ! And I totally agree with this brother. I think he’s very smart and mature and spiritually discerned to be moving the way he is! And more importantly, he definitely has a heart for God and the mind and spirit of Chris!
This which is the most important thing anyway, more so than being in a specific church. The orthodox and Catholic spiritual mentors who told him to just stay there and Pastor for now did well. That was also spiritually mature and smart of them!
I guess in essence, ironically, the more and the deeper I study of each church and from being in both churches (more than once)
The more I see how similar they actually are! So, to me, there is far more similarities than differences and I don’t care what anyone says or argues.
May God bless this brother and divinely guide him to the place where God wants him… whichever route that is!

Love the discussion. I went on a very similar journey as Scott. While I don't watch debates right now because I also find the interplay is positive to my faith, I think they were very useful during the journey by giving both sides of an issue. I had been raised hearing, years in the CMA also, the protestant arguments and had never understood the other side. As I was going through the conversion I consumed many debates and then had the tools that the Holy Spirit was able to use in moving my heart and mind.

The Catholic Church (ie universal and apostolic - at the time the term Catholic meant Latin Rite Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Coptics etc) had canonized the Bible through various councils, synods, and popes, beginning with the Council of Rome in 382 AD. The 27-book New Testament was first canonized at the councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397) in North Africa. Pope Innocent I ratified the same canon in 405. At that time there was the Western (Latin) and Eastern (Constantinople) churches who were in communion with each other and therefore technical the canonization of the Bible was by both Western and Eastern Churches.

If somebody “cuts and pastes” quotes to prove a point that doesn’t automatically prove the quotes are wrong. They might be, but you have to show how they are quoted wrongly, not just say “oh, they’re cut and pasted…therefore they are wrong.” For example, Klaudt says, in this sermon…“Both Pope Leo and Martin Luther were right. Grace and grace alone are salvation. But works, what we do, is what proves our salvation. That’s all the Catholics were saying.” After reading a snippet from the council of Trent (cut and pasted) he makes the claim…”what he’s meaning is we’ve (Roman Catholics) always believed it’s (justification) faith and faith alone.”
So the question we should ask isn’t about whether he “cut and pasted” the quote or not…who cares. The question is, is he using it correctly? I don’t know of any Roman Catholic who would agree with his interpretation of Trent and justification.

    • @patrickbarnes9874
      @patrickbarnes9874 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

You're reversing the burden of proof. It's the job of the person making the claim to prove that any given quote provides the support it's claimed to, it is not the job of the other person to prove the quote fails.

There's a difference between attending a Catholic church and becoming Catholic. Surely it's impossible to become Catholic without first attending services? I attended Divine Liturgy at an Orthodox parish for quite a while before becoming Orthodox, how else could I have discerned if it was the right way to go? I would also say that although at some point, a protestant will perhaps step over the line and become Catholic or Eastern Orthodox, the process of (as you put it) becoming that faith "in heart and mind" is a long process. I clearly stepped over the line and became Eastern Orthodox nearly three years ago. However, there's no way I was completely Orthodox overnight, my evangelical identity is slowly fading away and my Orthodox identity become clearer and clearer. It's like going to live in a different country, you clearly move and leave your home country but the process of acquiring the language and culture of the new country is a lifetime process.

The opening remarks from Scott regarding Luther were just patently false. It is clear that Scott's background is in what many allege to be Protestant (as in, related to Martin Luther), but is nothing of the sort. Rather, what occurs at Zootown is more akin to the radical Anabaptists and Enthusiasts of the 16th c.; that is, those who desire to cut the tree down at the roots (radix). Martin Luther was not of this ilk, even though he is often represented this way by those who have a very limited read on Luther's theology.
It is simply a farce to say that Luther removed 4 books from the Bible. All those mentioned by Scott are in Martin Luther's German translation of the New Testament and used as Holy Scripture by Confessional Lutherans at the present. Has Scott ever read the Book of Concord? Does he not realize that those 16th c. Reformers (later termed Lutherans by their opponents) subscribe, not to Luther, but the Ecumenical Creeds and the 1580 Book of Concord; a work that Luther contributed to in a very limited way?
Truth tell, it is sad when disaffected "Protestants" (again, really radical Anabaptists) attribute all the strangeness of their own experience to 16th c., Reforms and repudiate it all calling it an "entirely new religion." I think that if Scott had had an actual conversation with a Confessional Lutheran pastor, he would see that his impression of Luther is all wrong and colored by the bloviated rhetoric of RC and EO apologists, the both of which misrepresent the facts to a greater degree than the umbridge Scott takes at having been "lied to."
I'll only mention this one note of interest: My first call out of Seminary was to two parishes on the high-line of Montana in Havre, where Scott is from, and Chinook. I also received my undergraduate in Missoula, where Scott currently resides.

On the topic of heresy and calling it out. Scott is in for a rude awakening when he realizes he is still interpreting scripture like a protestant.
He has no authority to do so and the Orthodox Church is the ONLY Church that in Lent pronounces the Anathemas of heretics to remind the flock that there is only ONE gospel and ONE Christ and that if anyone preaches a different Gospel/Christ then let them be ANATHEMA as St Paul the Apostle said.
So this lovey dovey cushy evangelical nonsense Christianity is not Orthodox.
Also if Scott is receiving communion without Baptism in the Orthodox Church then that Priest/Bishop who allows it is wrong. There is a small case if Scott and his congregation are all catechumens that they could receive communion on the basis of oikonomia but that case is outlandish.
By Orthodox saints and fathers there is no communion without Baptism St Palmas and Paisios and Sarov and many many others make this clear. If you are not part of the body (baptism) then you can't commune.
So anyone who watches this video and thinks we Orthodox actually do this. Don't worry, we don't. This is clearly some ecumenist nonsense going on and as St Palamas (who is a Catholic saint also) says "ecumenism is heresy" because it falls under the fallacy that Christ can be different versions of himself. Christ is ONE and the same always and so His church and body is the same, Always.
Scott will either find this out very soon and he will be sad or he will check the fathers for clarification and realize once again that he must submit to the authority of the church or continue to be protestant and commit the very same sin that Martin Luther did. You either submit to Christ and are starting salvation or you make Christ submit to you and you start damnation.
Blessed Lent to everyone. We are nearing the culmination of why our Lord came 🙏☦️ Glory be to God and Christ is Risen! ☦️🙏
