Good video! I did this 30 years ago before youtube, welded a long roller with brackets to an old scissor jack I saved from aToyota Corolla. I welded a large hex nut so I can use a ratchet or a driver. You could also screw the base to a sawhorse or whatever you have. Take an old steel wheel and put a post on it.
Yeah, sometimes I use that kind of jack on the side of my miter saw (but without the fancy doo dad attachments as shown in this vid) to level out long pieces of lumber, on account of the very limited resting base of my saw. Proven to be very helpful on account of it's easy adjustable functionality, as clearly demonstrated in this upload.
Genius dude! Seriously. I’m forever using 4x4s or 2x4s in various configurations to prop up the end of my steel. I actually have an old Jack I’ve been hanging onto for years, just like the one you used. I’m making one this week! Thank you!!
Height of a saw may not very but weight and length of material being cut can cause a un straight cut if not supported correctly so this is a great idea fir that reason..
I have a similar issue with the height of my workbench Vs miter saw. Solution: a long block of wood from a broken down pallet. It is the perfect height and there is no need for adjustment.
When you're on different jobsites often times you're putting your saw on uneven surfaces so having the adjustment is useful, also the stands that are made for miter saws have that same adjustment to deal with different material dimensions/sag/etc
Imagine the support of a drill press. The height vary on this tool cause of the limited way the drillhead has, so when you adjust the support table for different thickness of material your support now can also vary in height.
I have numerous saws and other stuff, but i use a piece of wood or box iron the right height, they are always beside each machine, simpler and free, the machines dont change their height. Keep it simple.
I was curious to know what you were building. would it not have made sense to just weld a holder to the original jack and just add extended plates for support? it seem you too apart a jack and put it back together to achieve results that could have been performed by original design! its good to see the modifications. keep on keeping on.
I'm sure he could've built a support, or tool, that was alot more simple, for a relatively simple needed solution to help what his shown objectives were in need of!??....And I could've used alot less words to argue my point!!..But I Didn't!! I'm inspired by what a car jack can be repurposed into!!. NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF ALL INVENTIONS!!..Brilliant!!
I don't normally comment because most of these are a complete waste of time but you have made a nice job making a useful tool from a crap jack. Well done.
@@trueaussie9230 so the only way you move something on a surface is if there’s a roller attached? You ever heard of sliding. You can slide it to whatever side desired. I do it every time I cut lumber on my miter saw, and I’m sure it’d work the same with that piece of metal.
@@punkinmyvitamins1 WOW!! You certainly make a LOT of assumptions from 1 simple question (which you failed to answer). From your bellicose response I suspect you don't appreciate your 'authority' and / or 'opinion' being questioned in ANY way.
Legs would solve the stability, but a plate instead of a roller for your outfeed or infeed table presents its own problem, drag, warping, generally a roller is better for this purpose.
I am going to use you idea but put it on a pedestal. This way can use it with my tubing bender. I feel just from I watched this would even be more useful with a common problem building roll cages with benders. To keep the big hoops for stronger cages (and legal for sanctions) because these always use long tubes. This makes life hard because if something is off even a degree or 2 from the bend is a lot of sloppy fitment over at the other end. Thank you I absolutely love this idea now!!!

Here is the link to the video. The only thing i would change is the threaded rod and nuts for bearings as there is still some displacement as the saw comes down. It is minimal, but still there. I just used what I had available. Thanks for watching. th-cam.com/video/1FQf9hrrT84/w-d-xo.html

Great idea, great video. I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but I got a good laugh out of it, in addition to the content. You have all of these great tools. Bandsaw, chopsaw, fancy welder, etc. But when the need to persuade a part into place, you reach for the Channel locks and beat the snot out of them. Have you considered getting yourself a hammer?😁
I have used my scissor jacks to repair cars- as a pusher, not a puller. but a screw does work in both directions. I bought a $25 car for one of my daughters that had played in the snow a bit. It ran great and the steering, wheel alignment was fine. But doors werent shutting right, truck wouldn't latch, etc etc. I used short lengths of 4x4 lumber and jacks to stretch everything back to where it belonged and my daughter had the car I couldn't afford. So you can straighten out metal with one.

What's the point of it being adjustable? The height of the chop saw doesn't vary . Can I have those 6 mins of my life back ?
Height of a saw may not very but weight and length of material being cut can cause a un straight cut if not supported correctly so this is a great idea fir that reason..

I think securing a small plywood platform to either side of the jack would have worked too.

How does a 'plywood platform' act like a roller?!

@@trueaussie9230 The roller doesn't work anyway, see how hard he had to hit the threaded rod to get it inside the outside tube.

What is it used for, how does it lift my car? Demo using it to lift a car please.
Pretty smart, i like your little band saw also.
Thanks 👍
I was waiting for him to attach four propellers to it and call it a drone.

That's pretty clever - all you need now is a small handle on that knob
The jack could still be used that way in its original configuration.
Yes, unstable, but you can. Thank you for watching.
Yes you could just weld legs on it still and a plate on the top and it's done
Thanks Joe. I thought the same thing.
