Excellent job, ladies! It is amazing what you did in an hour, Ruan. The skirt is gorgeous, Tamlyn. I love the halter top, Rach! Great for your holiday.
I'm very impressed Ruan. You did a brilliant job showing a ton of creativity and amazing that you could achieve that all in one hour! Well within the spirit of the sewing bee . Darling skirt Tamlyn that fits you so well and can now be a part of your wardrobe. I loved the fabric choice even in the beginning. Great job Tamlyn using up that waffle knit. Looks beautiful together with your coloring and the skirt. Rachel..the colors and the patterns in your original scarf suit your coloring so well I knew whatever you made would look gorgeous on you. Half an hour! Amazing! Enjoy your holiday. Three very talented sewists. xx Karen
Well done ladies - I am impressed!! Your makes are all gorgeous however I would probably never do this either, as Ruan said "show me the pattern and I'll pick the material and then make it!" Thankyou for sharing - cheers!
I am someone that would rather upcycle thrifted items rather than sewing from scratch. I love Rachel's top, I like Tamlin's skirt and top idea and I really like Ruan's attempt at a top/dress. A friend has given me 2 silk blouses that are too big for me and I have already planned out one to be a kind of an Oriental style top. I MIGHT even join the challenge!
You definitely need to be kinder to yourself! When I was younger deadlines were my thing but post 50, a time constraint would cause me to pass out! I think you did extremely well to do that in 1 hour and a great exercise to do.
Hello my Northern Soul Sister, Ruan, I love what you have done with the men's shirt, the ties brilliant...looking forward to a model when it's done. Tamlyn I love the skirt with tights and chunky boots you like to wear will look great. I hope you do the sheering on the top of the dress to make a slinking top. Would look fabulous. Rachel you did find a gem in that thrift haul. The halter is amazing, and if people notice you have identical poop happening on your boob's guess what got 2 of those as well!! Happy sewing friends, if you thrift or not love all your makes.
I just finished my Halloween costume yesterday. I'll be dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood. I went to to the thrift store and bought my supplies. I made a cape with a brocade drapery panel and a gathered skirt with two pillowcases. I already had a puffy blouse and boots. Including the straw basket and the DIYed pieces, I think I paid $7 for my costume and it only took me a couple of days to wash the fabric, draft the patterns and sew them up! I was also fortunate in finding a big piece of brand new cotton flannel fabric for $4 while I was there and I'm planning on making some PJs soon. Definitely a successful shopping trip! It's great to see you all try something new and encourage others to try to sew sustainably. 😀
I think you set yourself huge challenges. I think you all did really well. Ruan's top is very pretty. I love the sixty's vibe of Tamlyn's skirt. I think the scarf print halterneck is very stylish especially on top of a swimsuit at the end of a hot day. I have a dress that is a size or two too big but I like the fabric. You have inspired me.
When my children were small I used to buy adult garments from jumble sales and cut them down to make their clothes. I also used to buy jumpers ( when they were all hand knitted) and pull them back; wash and reknit the wool. Love that you have had a go at this with great results.
Well done ladies for pushing yourself. Rachel you do look amazing in the halter top. ❤ Ruan you are a rock star for reaching past your discomfort. Tamlyn your skirt suits you and is very cute.
Rachel - you definitely should wear that top on holiday, it's gorgeous! Tamlyn - your skirt is lovely, very wearable and Ruan - I really want to see you try on your wrap top! You all did amazingly considering you were out of your comfort zone as would I be! Well done 👋👋👋
Three great efforts.Rachel - I think your scarf top would look amazing with blue jeans With a big woolly cardi it would also transcend the seasons but it does look lovely for holidays.
Deal Ruan. I had such a giggle watching your up-cycle. You did very well and tested your abilities. Maybe next year you can up-cycle it again…………to some hankerchiefs!!!!
Well done all three of you for taking up this challenge, not easy but I think you all did well. I agree with Ruan, I would rather follow a pattern than try & free style.❤
Glad you had fun with it, Ruan. Tamlyn, your skirt is so cute. Your silk satin scarf top is lovely, Rachel. I look forward to seeing holiday photos of you wearing it. I am not a natural upcycler, but I am having a go with a couple of my own wardrobe items that I don't wear.
I'd have had to have gone with finding the biggest garment that could be used as material for a real pattern, so well done all of you for improvising. That middle challenge of sewing bee would have stumped me even given twice as long when I'd still be staring at my windbreak wondering what to do 😂
Beautiful makes. I do have a winner, even though it’s not a competition so I’ll keep quiet (for once)! I am definitely not an upcycler but hats off to you for giving it a, very successful, go.
Loved your take on upcycling Ruan! Cute wrap too! Loved how your skirt turned out Tamlyn and the halter top is lovely Rachel, that will look great in the summer xx
Ruan-I love what you created!! You just need to take in the armholes, and a turtleneck underneath that would look fab-very creative with the waistline detail, I would leave the buttonholes-I think that adds interest.!! Cute skirt, Tamlyn!! Rachel-I love the halter top!! I would wear that any where-really gorgeous! :+)
🎉🎉🎉 Bravo Girls, you did a great job! I would have liked to seen the shirt modeled, but You guys are more creative than you’re willing to give yourselves credit for… Paisley boobs 😂, I wouldn’t have noticed that… it’s just an extension of the pattern. New subscriber here, you girls are fun to watch… Thanks for sharing❤
Excellent job, ladies! It is amazing what you did in an hour, Ruan. The skirt is gorgeous, Tamlyn. I love the halter top, Rach! Great for your holiday.
I love Rachel’s halter neck top - just what I imagined when I saw the scarf. Great work girls to put yourself so far outside your comfort zones.

Tamlyn: well done. The skirt suits you soooo well. Matched with the sweater: a dream! And Rachel: your halter neck is stunning.

😂 Brilliant 😂
I have thought of doing an upcycle with a shirt from a charity shop using the Sewing Bee format. I think of just need to practice abit more...

Yikes! TH-cam has gone nuts with the ads lately!! I know you have no control over that…
Good job to all 3 of you❤
❤❤❤
👌💖💖💖🥰
areally great youtuber is catherine sews, she is a fantastic upcykler. .she does some great things from charity shops.
Ruan it would make a great apron or coverall. Not certain about the armholes otherwise ... might be a bit revealing. 🎉
Could have sworn I watched this already!!! 😳🤪
You did! Technical glitch 🤪
Great ideas and finished projects. Any recommendations for charity shops in York?
Sue Ryder was good as it had the vintage section. Oxfam was also a good one 👍🏼

Ryan you sound like me, give me an actual pattern or recipe and I’ll do my best. Otherwise, not much imagination.
