There will never be a group of people that will live up to what these guys did. I believe the WW2 generation was the greatest. They went and fought a war that will probably never be matched, and they did it with dignity, respect, and honor. Then they come home and build the greatest nation in the world, and never beat their chest about it. It must have been one hell of an experience.
+cdr861532 You are exactly right! As I said to my grandfather recently(he was called up 2 weeks after the war started. Still alive and healthy today), 'You are not called the Greatest Generation for nothing.' If we think about what they did and what they lived through, it is extraordinary: -They grew up in the Great Depression -They fought WWII -They oversaw the greatest period of scientific advancement the world has ever seen. -They invented nearly everything we have today. -They pulled off the greatest scientific achievement of all time by landing men on the moon and bringing them back. No other generation history has come even close to them.
PanterausfG I can see where you are coming from. That is a very important generation as well. But if you think about the impact the WW2 gen had on the entire world, it was immense. Think about all the technology we have today. Most of that came from that generation. They figured out how to put someone on the moon. That alone is still almost impossible to comprehend. You could put the founding fathers into that argument and not be wrong for it.
If that is what you got out of what I said, you are a complete dip shit. This video and the comments are about the people who served in ww2 and the things they did that influenced the world. OIF and OEF were not being discussed so I don't know how I "shot my mouth off" about anything. I have respect for all soldiers. So don't come at me when you don't know what I think about the military because all you did was "shoot your mouth off" about someone you know nothing about, in a conversation that was not about what you brought up. The people who fought in WW2 influenced the world in a way that is almost indescribable. Here i am giving them the respect they deserve and you come along and start talking about something completely different and get mad that we aren't talking about that. Grow up.
He is shot straight through his chest, out his back and asked the interviewer "If he wants to hear all this" Such a sincere hero. My dad was in the bulge, froze his feet caught behing enemy lines as a scout. Left the war on Jan 5, 1945. These guys are the best, what a memory. Thank you sir
The greatest generation. Its sad thinking one day they will be gone. We will always remember what they did for us. One of my Great Grandfather's was in the Merchant Navy, one as in the RAF. So much respect for these men.
+Mrtweet81 That totally disregards the reason why he wrote that comment.. And why wouldn't you talk about the war or independence? Sounds too ignorant to be real
+jdubz170ify How many veterans of the war of independence can you still talk to? Soon the oldest veterans you can talk to are the veterans of Korea, so to screw history class would be ignorant...
+jdubz170ify So you read my comment as 100% serious? History is a bit more than just the last seventy years, so you can't possibly talk to many who where there.
These men went through the closest thing to "HELL ON EARTH" Surrounded by death, fear, lack of food and ammo, and shellings for weeks. They still fought and performed their duties and held the line. These are real men, and real heros.
my grandfather who i think of as a hero was part of the 101st and survived the bulge, hearing stories from those who were there helps me know who he was as he passed back in 1959, id like to know more about him and his service but i have no relatives who knew him to ask
Deep respect for this man. What a story! I live right at the beginning of Hell’s Highway (Eindhoven area). The war can still be felt here. My parents’ houses were both confiscated by the Germans from May-Sep 44. So they were damn happy to be liberated. They knew what it is to live under severe pressure of a dictator. Thank you all for the liberation. Great to hear this man’s story. I hope he is still around and with us all for a while. 👍🏻
Thank you for commenting. I was in the U.S. Army and stationed in Baumholder Germany 85-87, I regret not visiting places like these battle areas. It’s good to hear on this subject from someone in the area.
I'll watch this later. Thank you for interviewing him. My grandpa, who passed in 1999, refused to go on camera about it but I remember his story about his time at Normandy Beach like it were yesterday.
From one combat veteran to another, thank you for your scarface to this great nation. Thank you for sharing your story, I enjoyed hearing. thank for helping save the world from that time. you will be honored forever.
What a story. Can't even imagine going through anything like that. Thank you for your service Ed Walls! Couldn't be prouder of you. I will never forget what you and thousands like you have done for me!
This man is a hero hands down thank u sir for your service and all of r freedom my grandfather was in this battle too i heard stories like this but never recorded him i should have
Must've been the snow and ice that slowed the bleeding while he laid there My grandfather got captured at the Battle of the Bulge and was pow till Spring
yes ed we want to hear this, a man who can laugh at falling off the stretcher twice.proves they are the Greatist generation, ! thanks.from a greatfull american
I wish my uncle would share his story from the war. He fought on Okinawa and to this day has never spoke of it except to say that bad things happen in war and you have to get over it. He continues to express his intense dislike of the Japanese.
Thank you sir for we have done for our country and for the world the world does not respect United States of America or Canada and all the nations that fought with us but me as a patriot and as an American thank you and thank you to all the nations that helped us
Meh I didn’t need a bandage for the front gunshot wound because it was such a small hole. What a badass. True heroes these guys. Best generation hands down
It amazes me how some of the people from this same generation did nothing in their lives but bitch and moan and be bitter assholes. My praises and thanks go out to the ones like this man who laid down the path for our future and kept their heads up through one of the largest conflicts in history.
thank you for your story. on a side note its always good to see that military hummer has not changed talks about being dropped off stretcher and laughs now lol
I have read and or heard many people refer to war veterans as heroes. However, I strongly disagree. This is in part because during each soldiers' baptism of fire many of these so-called brave men shit their pants, or walked straight to their own deaths without necessarily accomplishing anything of any real significance worthy of sharing or bragging about Alternatively many more ran away, while others stayed hidden in a bunker, or in a bombed out crater, and so on. Plus soldiers are mercenaries and terrorists, they committed murder, rape, theft, mischief, assault and naturally extortion. Question: If you or someone like you was a victim of these crimes against humanity and your person. Would you actually praise them for a job well done and award them a medal of Honor or congratulate them for the atrocities they commited...? I doubt any reasonable, sane, thoughtful individual or group would call them heroes if they were shown to be what they actually were and remain to be, because time doesn't remove debts, nor does it make anyone a hero. Assuming for a moment that you become a hero for killing and raping etc. rather than receiving a punishment for these crimes. Based upon this kind of logic there isn't any criminal offense. Not to mention war itself is a crime, but based upon the above nonsensical logic war isn't a crime and all killers in prison don't really deserve to be locked up. after all they were only at war with a rival or the federal government. if you support war veterans you also support all the dirty deeds they have committed and will commit. Even fellow military personnel have been victimized by so-called friends, not always the enemy to blame. conspiracy to commit all those crimes applies the list of crimes
your entire point is based on A) Not charging into battle to your death in wars is cowardly, B) Every soldier somehow commits crimes against humanity and C) The interrelationships between nations and their constituents with each other is somehow the same as law on a micro scale. If you see no weakness in any of the above hypotheses, then you are a simpleton
signs80 you obviously are the idiot. I stated that war veterans are not heroes, and I gave clear examples of what a soldier does thus making them not a hero. Aside from that you are making arguments about something else entirely. Stay on topic, unless you don't understand English. You clearly have no idea that I based my statement on facts, not assumptions that you are obviously making.
Signs80 related to your statement of what you assume I am saying is not accurate. But, all soldiers do commit crimes against humanity directly or indirectly. Nations relationships with other nations what's this have to do with war veterans being exactly what they are... they are involved in crimes against humanity for economic growth, but claim their actions of aggression against another nation is justified. I disagree with such nonsense, that nonsense is that any war is justified. People such as yourself must believe the bullshit everyone feeds you without doing any research for yourself.
There will never be a group of people that will live up to what these guys did. I believe the WW2 generation was the greatest. They went and fought a war that will probably never be matched, and they did it with dignity, respect, and honor. +PanterausfG I will delete this as I just repeated myself hehe. Sorry about that!
PanterausfG

The greatest generation. Its sad thinking one day they will be gone. We will always remember what they did for us. One of my Great Grandfather's was in the Merchant Navy, one as in the RAF. So much respect for these men.
James Harper yeah it is sad so much history in them
James Harper by far, greatest generation yet
I love how he's talking about his experience like it was a grand adventure. Bless this man, what a hero.
Screw history class, just talk to veterans.
+Aluminum Cloud As long as it´s not about the war of independence...
Mrtweet81 His comment obviously wasn't 100% serious, he was just saying how you can talk to a veteran and get their first hand experience.
+jdubz170ify So you read my comment as 100% serious? History is a bit more than just the last seventy years, so you can't possibly talk to many who where there.
Wow! his memory of this battle is amazing, I tip my hat off to this hero.
These men went through the closest thing to "HELL ON EARTH" Surrounded by death, fear, lack of food and ammo, and shellings for weeks. They still fought and performed their duties and held the line. These are real men, and real heros.

I don't suppose you can elaborate further? Of course only do so if you think that your Grandpa would have approved. Thanks.
From one combat veteran to another, thank you for your scarface to this great nation. Thank you for sharing your story, I enjoyed hearing. thank for helping save the world from that time. you will be honored forever.
Thanks for your service!!
Wise man. thank you for your service
These were MEN. God bless them.
watching this video again without the audio and seeing how the war veteran is genuinely happy and smiles and laughs is an odd stance to take
What a story. Can't even imagine going through anything like that. Thank you for your service Ed Walls! Couldn't be prouder of you. I will never forget what you and thousands like you have done for me!

signs80 not shocked by that comment
