It's so much easier..when we get older a shorter clip helps keep her feeling good about herself, Lord, please leave her alone.I think she's brave and she's a go-getter.
I wish they would have shown her hair dry and the way she would wear it BEFORE the cut. Only seeing it wet doesn't allow us to see the "transformation" to something better or more youthful.

Not a fan. These cuts make mature women look old. A nice layered Bob would have been more youthful. Why do hairdressers think a short haircut is flattering on older women. It’s not!
I agree. It is stereotype: "The older lady, the shorter hair". I watch to different people and came to the conclusion: when the back, neck, chin are not as they are during young age - there is no reason to open them up and show it off. But not many people can do proper haircut for medium length hair.

And this lady had hair below her shoulders - perhaps, 10-20 cm below. And all looked so good (blond hair, layers - I do not know if it was her natural hair color or not).

I am 63 years old and kept my ha iui r short for many years so it would be easy to maintain. During the covid shutdown, when hair stylists were forced to close, my hair grew out enough to get an entirely new style. I chose a style similar to this one. It is as easy to maintain as the short cut, but has the femininity of longer hair. I love it. Since my hair has a natural curl to it, most of the time I just wash and go and it still looks good.
I agree. The style is easy. I had a huge disaster (bad coloring, cut and way, way over processed.) My hair has some curl and this style is just so manageable. I get in the shower, wash hair and let dry because I’m dangerous with the blow dryer. It’s sophisticated without the constant fiddling.

Stunning work. Surprised the hairdresser could concentrate when customer talks all the time. The cut brought out the beauty of the lady's facial features, neck and upper back.
I don't know... she looks happy, but if it was me: I think I would have cried. I'd like to see it in two-weeks after she needs to wash/dry/style it herself.
It's not for me either. I'm all for 'anti-age' being 55 but I feel this would be a lot more hassle than I'm prepared to put up with. It looks nice but I think it would need trimming VERY often to keep the shape and it wouldn't be a quick snip but quite a lengthy visit to the hairdresser.
In cosmetology school in the 70s I learned this cut. It was called a wedge then. You have to go in every month for a trim and it certainly isn't happening at wash and go. She probably will never get it to look like this again.
This model has nice hair and I think the style is easy to care for; as it grows out, I’d just throw on a slim headband and get it off the face, easy not to blow dry it every day. Plus, shorter hair doesn’t need to be washed every day or two to really look great.
I had a very similar cut in my teens it was called a wedge. The maintenance on this is having to get it trimmed every 6 weeks. A little growth and its loses it shape quickly.

As a retired Hair Stylist myself, this young man is excellent at cutting/styling hair. The “Bob” haircut was very popular in the 60’s/70’s, and has made a huge comeback. The cut is great for this ladies face and makes her look years younger.
He did such a great job sectioning her hair. The haircut really opened her eye area. Beautiful.
She does look more becoming though with the short style. The man is a good stylist.

When I was in Beauty School, we learned one haircut….. the bubble,all the rage in the 60’s. I’m now 73, sneaking up to 74 next month. My hair is below my bra strap in the back, about to lower back. I’m ready to cut but not this much. Just below shoulder length and messy layers. I’ve had all the “ bubble cuts” I’m ever going to have. 😅. These hairdressers are AMAZING!

It is a 'labor-intensive' type of cut/styling; and nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find stylists who are actually capable of cutting like that.

I think a chin length style longer in front than back would have looked really nice on her. This was a bit too short and not quite right for her features. He did do a very good job of cutting though.
I agree....To me it added age...... She is pretty anyways lol. I would DEF have kept it longer and NO folding curls....Those ALWAYS add age.

I'm a professional hairstylist and former proctor/ examiner for Cosmetology State Board of my state.
I see a lot of scary techniques when new Cosmetology students are first learning and I see a lot of long term hairstylists who shouldn't have passed State Boards.
I agree. My regular hairdresser moved and I had to go to someone new. My hair was quite long, and it was supposed to be a precision shoulder length cut. She just took a wad of hair and cut it. She didn’t put any part of it up in a clip, nothing. It’s not shoulder length, it’s chin length, and the highlights you can’t even see. She did what she wanted, not what I wanted. She might have well just put a bowl on my head and cut. $150 down the drain and ugly ass hair

Unfortunately, you are right. I taught State board prep for theory and practical. Trust me if you went through my class , you would pass at State board. I was passionate about the field and serious, I felt a deep responsibility to teach foundation that they could build

It looks decent on her because she has the right hair type. I was supposed to get a small trim from a guy that really is only good for blow outs and he ended up cutting my hair in this style. Only he wasn’t skilled and my hair is thick and curly. It was a disaster and took me a year to grow out to reshape and it’s still not exactly back to shape 2 years later. I have the type of hair that even when I’m older I’ll be rocking long hair due to its texture.

I used to work in the beauty salon as a hair dresser, but I can't cut my own hair. I do the same technique as this guy, but I could never find someone that do the same as this guy, a lot of hair dressers doesn't take the time to section your hair like that, I hate going to cut my hair because of that, they never know how to cut hair.
Ikr same it’s so annoying when we can’t do this cut on ourselves but we can do it on clients. I have tried to do this on my own hair but it’s just too hard to get it accurate. Plus I have pain in my shoulders and back etc now days so it’s even harder to do my own hair especially this cut.
It's really, really difficult to find a hair dresser who is well trained, skilled and talented in cutting hair. Many do it, but very few actually do it well.
You ought to tell them exactly how you want your hair to be cut, ie section by section!
Most people who have this cut don’t know how to style it themselves. It ends up looking like dog ears hanging down in the front around their face. Not flattering when it’s not styled correctly!
And I imagine that if you do any sports that require a helmet, like horse riding, you'd soon achieve that effect anyway!

I just got a cut similar to this and hated the front part so I cut off the "dog ears" when I got home because they looked awful. Much better without them.
As someone who is 72, this lady looks like she is maybe 40. No forehead wrinkles, no cheek wrinkles (hash marks), eyebrows not falling into her eyelids, no neck wrinkles. She has a long way to go before she is needs to worry about aging.

Having had quite a few bad cuts over the years, I have found that many hairstylists are often scissor happy and can’t resist just one more snip when less would have done just as good a job. For me there was an awful lot of faffing and snipping here for a very predictable style.
Good hair stylists don't rush. They take their time to get precision, he may even have had a trainee standing by.

My hairdresser, Ami, cuts a far more precise style and knows what she is doing. The front of this woman’s hair is a mess, frankly. Hair dressing fail.
@@suewhitham2387 My hairdresser works very fast as she cuts my autistic son's hair and he won't sit still for long. She's even had to do it while he was walking around when he got too big for my lap, yet she does a lovely cut and he's always been complimented on his hair. I'm so glad to have her as we've never had to resort to the all over clippers 'prison look' as so many of his classmates have.

This hairdresser is a virtuoso. The haircut is as near perfect as I’ve seen in decades. Sectioning off and cutting hair is a lost art. The cut is so good it will require almost no styling on her part (no pun intended), and will grow out beautifully. She may not need another haircut for a year, or longer. He should charge accordingly. I would let him cut my hair in a heartbeat.

@@sharonhoover644 Maintained means TIME doing it yourself every few days, backing up to a mirror & hand held mirror in hand with razor in the other or another weekly trip to the shop to PAY them to do it. Such a harsh look, nothing soft and good for the face.
Short looks nicer than thin and stringy any day of the week. Besides, it’s a woman’s confidence that makes her beautiful, not long or short hair!

Hairdressers are right. Long hair DO drag down the facial features/ makes one look older.
Also, one get so used to the long hair,one gets a little "blind" , one dont see the quality of hair is less, its not that healthy anymore...and thats what happens,when getting older. Drier, less hair/thinning, not shiny and full anymore,and one often have to use color as well,and the hair are impacted by that,too.
So,when i got a long bob , (and no, its not only short or long hair one can choose, a ling bob is half long), i suddenly looked way younger ! Also its so much easyer to maintain a rich and shiny color, using two or three different colors to add depth .
Its the best makeover i ever had, i didnt recognize it having such a big impact. Im very happy with my new hair ,i wish i saw it long time ago...

I am 61 years old. I have knee length hair with very little gray, surprisingly. I cannot even fathom hair that short on me what-so-ever, Lol. When I can no longer take care of my long hair, I will cut it - but no shorter than the middle of my back. I hope I'm 90 when that has to happen. The hair style in the video is really nice - just, not for someone like me that has had ankle to knee length hair for the majority of her life.. *cheers*

Should of kept the front a little bit longer. The nose is pulled out by the shortness of the sides. The bangs need to come down to the nose to balance out the jaw line.

It’s a very nice haircut and the hair stylist is excellent, but I do not agree that it’s a flattering cut for older women.
The neck is one area that shows age in a woman and showing an aged neck with such a short haircut is not a flattering look. A short shaggy haircut that drops and covers the neck works better.
They want them to come back for continual maintenance. That’s their point.

I'm in my sixties, and I've had my hair in a really short pixie cut for years. It's layered and messy looking. Sort of a strawberry blonde with highlights. I use a curling iron just to give it a little bend. I have very straight coarse hair and lots of it. Having my hair this way has taken 15 to 20 years off. I have to get a cut once a month but that's okay! It's very easy to maintain.

I get really upset when the stylist cuts off the V at the back of my neck. Even when I tell them not to, some of them feel compelled to cut it straight across and I think that is so inelegant.

And Americans always call every short hair cut a “pixie.” I think maybe the idea behind a shorter hairstyle is to look different from the long haired “herd” (which includes me too!) and more chic and sophisticated.
