Similar to the way my mom made meat and potato pie when I was younger... tin of stewed steak, tin of corned beef, bit of water, bring together, add boiled lightly mashed potatoes and topped with puff pasty
We cooked something similar in Philippines but ate it with rice lol. I don't know if it was a Scot that brought it there but I was told it sprang up from using GI corned beef rations after the WW2.
Stovies. Goes way back. Old sheep (start of winter) dies , so you cut it up and you cook the bones and meat left on in a big pot with veg onions and potatoes (winter veg). Typically would remain on the fire till all gone with topping up from time to time. We have forgotten how to cook to be honest. Fridge Freezer, Vacuum packed, tinned foods and dried meals, just add water. The best pot of soup is at least three days old, come on you know this. Make a pot of stew with veg plus tatties then leave in the fridge till next or next day again and then reheat. Totally awesome. If we give food time to infuse and congeal then it will create its own body and flavours to make you want to eat it more. How many times have you been told to let it sit. This best example to let it sit. ultimate outcome, is worth the wait
i thought it was going to be like a pie or pastie and was going to request you send one to brisbane. Might be a bit sticky by the time it got here though...
Corn Beef??? No no no!
