    Im ultra happy with my Rev2. I use it like two seperate 8 voice synths, both with their own outputs, sequencers and effects. I don't think this aspect is acknowledged enough - its two synths! My patches mostly have two parts with sequences. Just add a drum machine and I have a full track going and can jam between the two parts starting and stopping sequences, adding extra lines played live on top as with 16 voices theres almost always extra polyphony. Its so damn stable as well, in that it just seems to work. Programming and assigning modulations is so much easier than ive had before. Excellent instrument - well done Sequential x

      I'm pretty new to synths. I have a Ju06A right now which is the first synth I've ever bought. Would you say that the Rev 2 would be too complicated for someone who is generally new to synthesis? Or would it be doable for me to learn synthesis on the rev 2?

      I've only had my Rev2 a month and it's one of the easiest synths to edit and understand thanks to the very logical layout. I do own many other synths but I would say that it's suitable for a novice...the fact that it sounds great is just a bonus! 😎👍🏻😁

    The diffetence between the two, is that one is a fresh cream cake, baked that day and has generous amounts of fresh fruit on top etc, and the other is also a cream cake, but has added ingredients so it can stored and transported more easily, keeping its flavour under the most undulating of circumstances.

    REV2 is not DCO like many synths in the sounds for sin, triangle etc are not high end samples ! Yes the Oscillators are on a chip with the rest of the circuit rather than the P5/P6 which are VCO and individual components, but the REV2 Source is analogue in terms of the source with digital control so they wont go out of tune (actually it takes 5 minutes to warm up and yes I have one !) It really should be called DCAO. on REV2 if you dont use the Digital FX its analog to the output. Just my two cents worth.

      “Not high end samples” is dumb logic

    • @passivehouseaustralia4406
      @passivehouseaustralia4406 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ghost mall yes but it confused against a dco on a DSP. Which is 100% digital as it's all software written on the digital signal processing chip, which is a type of CPU but built to do specific sound generating tasks very efficiently with its own special instruction set.

    Prophet 6: Semi-discrete (VCO's & discrete version of SSM2044). Hell froze over and they finally ran out of the PA397. I get it from a business perspective why they used it on most synths until they ran out - but I personally hated the sound. I'm now the happy owner of an OB-6 ;)

      No, the P6 don’t has 3 OSC. Both have 2 OSC. But the REV2 has DCOs while the P6 has VCOs. DCO means, the oscillator is digitally controlled, while the VCO is voltage controlled. The DCOs are inside an integrated circuit which combines digital and analogue elements. The VCOs are discrete circuits separated for each of the 6 voices. Therefore there is much more variance in the electrical parameters of the circuits, like capacity and resistance but even with that the sound of the P6 is very accurate, therefore you have a vintage mode that simulates more inaccuracies by adding randomness to all the parameters of a patch. Most Important for the sound is the difference of the filter. The REV2 has a Curtis filter while the P6 has another kind of filter which is much, much better sounding.

From what I read the developers did it in their spare time which I find a bit... weird :) but ok, I guess the worst bugs are fixed now so who am I to complain. I doubt there will be any more updates as they've repeatedly said there's no more available memory in the instrument to fix things or add features.

    Selling my Rev2 as we speak in favour of the Prophet 6.. Some things just don't satisfy your needs expressively and the fact that the prophet is a musicians instruments as opposed to a more digital studio driven piece is why its double the price almost.

    • @payt01
      @payt01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was planning on doing the same thing for a while. But I'm glad I didn't.Instead I bought the P6 while keeping the Rev 2. While they do overlap, they really are different beasts in many ways. The Rev 2 can do things the P6 can't do and vice versa. The Rev 2 can do excellent sizzly and twnkly sounds which the P6 would have a hard time doing.But at the sametime the P6 has an inherent juicy and warm sound that the rev 2 would be hard pressed to replicate.
      But if you'd go for just one for generaltasks, I'd still recommend the Rev 2, as it'sa more versatile synth. The P6 ismore of a synth for people who want that specific sound that it does so well.
      Anyway choices choices eh?

  • @osirismaximus2787
    @osirismaximus2787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't the Rev2 be a "digital synth" because it has DCO's? I noticed you refer to both of them as analog... I dont understand what the qualifying factor is for a synth to be "analog".
    Im new to this so this is pretty confusing.

    • @SequentialLLC
      @SequentialLLC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The Rev2 is analog, because it has analog oscillators and an analog signal path. DCOs are analog oscillators, but they are "digitally controlled" for tuning stability. The oscillator itself, which is responsible for generating the audio, is analog. A digital oscillator would be a digital representation of a waveform.

    Isn't it all SMT? Not really built in a vintage way. It also looks like there are lots of ICs inside the Prophet 6 and OB 8 - are they just the same as ICs but custom designed rather than off the shelf? Looking at the ciricult boards they look pretty similar in terms of their make up and technology - not that I really know anything much about electronics. Also aren't the modulations digital on the Prophet 6?
