    VS The Royal family on the bridge of HMS Vanguard watching H.M.S. Nigeria pass close by. MS Good informal shots of the Princesses (Elizabeth and Margaret) playing with young ships officers on deck. CU Good close ups of the Queen wearing a new style white turban. VS the fancy dress parade of King Neptune's court, before the crossing the line ceremony. MS the Princesses have their noses powdered in lieu of the usual ducking. The ceremonial barbers are Chief Petty Officers Sullivan of Portsmouth and Petty officer Brown of Banbury.
    MS the Vanguard nosing into Cape Town harbour with table mountain in background. MS a line of flags is strung from fore to aft of the ship (HMS Vanguard). CU Back view of the Royal family looking over the bay from the side of the ship. LS the prow of the ship showing a line of sailors heaving on a rope, silhouetted against the sky.
    G B Van Zyl, Governor General, his wife and General Jan Smuts Prime Minister go aboard the Vanguard in dock. MS Elevated view of them shaking hands with King George VI on deck. MS the King and Queen Elizabeth (later Queen Mother) walk off the ship with the Princesses. MS LS They drive from the quay to Government House through cheering crowds and streets decorated with bunting and slogans of welcome, in an open car.
    LS CU the King and Queen attend a garden party. They are seen among the guests, the Queen wears a long dress with wide brimmed hat trimmed with ostrich feathers. LS the King at civic reception standing on a dais answers the address of welcome given by the Mayor of Cape Town (Nat sound). MS The Queen with the Mayor, Abe Bloomberg descending from the dais.     I wonder if they knew at that time that their empire was quickly crumbling away. It's good the King didn't live long enough to see his empire disappear, it probably would have saddened him very much
