Because the specific weight of carbon steel is very similar to iron, which is roughly 7 gr/cm³, while pure tungsten would be roughly 19 gr/cm³. I'd estimate the diameter of that sphere sans spikes to be roughly one meter, with 4/3*pi*r³ for the cubic volume of a sphere. Thus at 50 cm for r that would give roughly 3 600 000 grams, or roughly 3.6 tons for a solid steel ball of carbon steel. With tungsten that would weigh almost 10 tons. But my estimates could be off by quite a margin, so dealing with cubes of radii instantly changes the weights.
