If your housing is too expensive you can buy a tent, the poliisi might give you a hard time but it's cheaper so good luck.

Although this sounds like a lot, I have friends who are paying €1000 per month in Ireland for a shared room in an apartment. The degrees they are studying for are no better than those in Finland and the facilities are virtually non-existent. Even with , admittedly, more accessible employment, being limited to 20 hours per week, it is impossible to afford to study and cover the cost of living without working outside legal constraints.
They’d give their right arm for rent of €450 per month and communal facilities like these.

What this guy doesn't know is that the Finnish student union own the complex. Not the University or the government. The student union sets the rent. Every University city has Student union accommodation owned by the student union. They also own music venues, office blocks, hotels, art galleries, restaurants forestry and agricultural land. Each faculty specialises in maintaining the wealth of the Student Union, business, law and finance are the richest. A lot of the early wealth was via monies or property left in trust to the SU. Most of the decisions are made by retired graduates with the support of the student representatives. This has been going on for over 100 years and decisions are made for the long term. I know this because my son is a student representative in Finland. Yes, he is Finnish..

You can find units under 500 in Turku. You just aren't looking in the right places.

How is the weather during October and November there? I am planning on going on a exchange program to study at UTU but I am unsure of how cold it is.
Also, how well insulated is your current studio? Does the kitchen really include a microwave, I've read somewhere that TYS's departments don't include appliances (with the exception of dishwashers)?

It is winter. So there will be snow and cold weather. But it is manageable with proper cloths.
Well insulated. Tys apartments don't provide anything accept refrigerator. I will do a separate video on this today.

Finland or Norway? I have been following your channel for a while, you lived in Finland as well as Norway. Can you let me know which country you liked the most?

I would prefer Norway because of the beautiful nature. But Finland gives more opportunities to students.

It depends. Turku is small compared to Espoo (It is a part of Helsinki). So Espoo has more opportunities.

You don't seem to know much about the Finnish legislation about municipalities and how they operate as the local adminisation area governed by their own elected council. Municipalities have a lot local independence in some respects. The rest is handled by the new wellbeing services counties. Helsinki is a wellbeing service county by itself. Espoo is in an other wellbeing service county.

    • @mastershifo

It is for single student. But the family apartment costs just a bit more. Around 550. So it is better to live in family apartment.
