- Auch dieses Jahr habe ich wieder eine Fahrt nach Mosonmagyaróvár in Ungarn unternommen, um mir wohl einen der hochkarätigsten Modellbau-Wettbewerbe weltweit anzusehen, nämlich die berühmte Mosonshow.
Als einfacher Hobbymodellbauer und Besucher staunt man nicht schlecht, auf welchem Niveau die Meister arbeiten und vor allem, welche faszinierenden Ideen sie haben, um ihre Modelle auf atemberaubende Weise in Szene zu setzen. Man sieht ganz klar, der Trend geht zum Dioramenbau, denn kaum ein Modell kam ohne einen schön gestalteten Sockel aus. Das halte ich für sehr begrüßenswert, denn das macht ein Modell sofort interessanter und sorgt für etwas Kontext.
Tausende Wettbewerbsmodelle verteilten sich auf dutzende Kategorien, daher gab es eine Menge zu sehen. Natürlich konnte ich nicht jedes einzelne Modell photographieren, sondern ich zeige wie immer die Werke, welche mir besonders ins Auge gestochen sind.
Auch außerhalb des Wettbewerbes war einige geboten, wie etwa Seminare, nette Gespräche und natürlich auch ein erlesenes Angebot bei den Händlern. Man kann sich denken, dass ich dort sehr gut fündig geworden bin!
Einen Kritikpunkt habe ich allerdings auch anzumerken: Teilweise ging es im Wettbewerbsbereich unter den Besuchern ziemlich ruppig zu. Dabei wären Drängeleien noch bis zu einem gewissen Punkt zu ertragen gewesen, es kam aber auch vor, dass man beim Betrachten der Modelle geschubst und gestoßen wurde. Das ist generell kein Umgang untereinander, schon gar nicht auf einer Modellbau-Veranstaltung! Man sollte meinen, dass Modellbauer eigentlich mehr Geduld haben als andere Leute, dem scheint aber nicht so zu sein.
Wird mich das abhalten wieder dorthin zu fahren? Ich denke nicht, denn der Weg lohnt sich und manchmal muss man auch ein paar kleine Unannehmlichkeiten in Kauf nehmen.

This year i made a trip to Mosonmagyaróvár in Hungary again in order to attend one of the most prestigious scale model contests worldwide, namely the famous Mosonshow.
As a simple hobbyist and visitor one can only marvel at the level of finesse of the grand masters in this hobby and their fascinating ideas to present their models in astonishing ways. It is clear that dioramas are a trend right now, barely any model at the show came without a neat base. I approve this, since it makes a model so much more interesting and adds extra context.
There were thousands of models in dozens of categorie to be seen. Of course it was impossible to take photos of every single one, instead i show you those pieces, which stood out to me.
Outside the contest area there was a lot going on as well, like seminars, chats and of course a great selection of stuff in the vendor areas. As you can probably guess i found many good things there!
Despite all of this i have one point to criticise: At times the behaviour amongst the visitors was pretty abrasive in the competition area. One could tolerate being in a dense crowd to a degree for some time, but it also happened to me, that i got shoved and pushed while looking at the models on display. This is no good behaviour under any circumstances and at a model show in particular! One would think that scale modellers are gifted with more patience than other people, but this does not seem to be the case.
Will this keep me from going there again in the future? I don´t think so, it is well worth the journey and sometimes one has to be willing to accept a few unpleasant situations.

Thanks, really enjoyed that, the standard on show is very high, and inventiveness of dioramas is incredible. Had to freeze frame the one with Tarantino directing the Inglorious Bastards , playing cards in the basement scene, brilliant. Inspiring.

Indeed, it is a massive show and the quality of the displays are just outstanding. There were even some modellers from Japan, who travelled all the way there and entered their models. It blows my mind.

Die Show zeigt Meisterstück am laufenden Meter im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes und dies aus allen Bereichen des Modellbaus.
Sehr inspirierend! Macht Lust auf weitere eigene Kreationen. Dein Besuch dort war eine sehr lohnende Sache.

Das modellbauerische Niveau ist dort wirklich extrem hoch, das sieht man so in dieser Form und Dichte selten! Ich bin jedenfalls durch den Besuch voll motiviert und inspiriert, das lädt den Akku voll sag ich dir :)

Yes, some people are a bit tense, not sure why though. It is bad behaviour. Might bring some knuckle-dusters next time haha :)
One can stay out of the biggest trouble though, so around certain times it is better to go shopping and eat something. With that in mind it is a great experience, where else could one see so many masterpieces together?! There are not many shows like this world wide.

Cheers Paul, that show is really quite something! However, as a complete package i think Telford is the best show i have been to so far, since there is an emphasis on the social element of the hobby. Moson has a higher quality of models of course, but it is just a display and you can not talk to people that easily in comparison. Is ist worth a visit? Absolutely, give it a go if you can one day :)

Hab letzte Woche im Supermarkt zufällig nen älteren Herrn getroffen der wie sich rausstellte auch Modellbauer ist.

I felt the same when i saw the Wirbelwind scene!
Pushed and shoved? Modellers? Patience?? That's why I tend to avoid the competition areas, and just enjoy the ordinary table displays.. Whilst there are some excellent models on show at the Mosonshow, I think this show may be a little bit too focused on perfection, for my liking. I prefer shows where you can see models of all standards, from the very beginners, up to my level and then the experts who are really skilled. Something for everyone.
Having said that, as always there were some very inspirational dioramas and builds shared in this video, to a standard a modeller like me can only dream of achieving. But at least it has given me some ideas, for some poor copies.. ;)

What you pointed out is exactly my own view on the matter. Thats why i enjoyed the Telford show so much, because it is a place for everyone and i wasn´t pushed around of course :) Of course a contest environment leads to extreme high quality, but apart from visiting the show i have no desire to actually take part in it with a model. '
I like the variety of shows, they are all a bit different in many ways. For sure i will keep exploring more of them in the future, i find it all very interesting!
