Idk why but the opening always gives me chills. It’s one of the only songs that rightfully captures the feeling of depression. The slow and repetitive riff, Kurts monotone voice, the depressing violin. It’s so good at setting the depressing mood.
I love how minimal this song is in terms if production / musical arrangement. Not flashy, not loud, not trying to impress. And yet it's makes such a powerful impression on human mind.
@@sage6516 that's sage's excuse for not making anything noteworthy. because you're such a complicated artist. no one can understand the genius behind sage's armchair critiquing abilities!
I love how they weren’t afraid to use this song more than once and I love how they actually played Batman’s theme more than once. Most movies only play the characters theme once then never again. This really reminds me of Batman 89 when they would play the theme all the time!
It's about time superheroes had recognisable themes again. The MCU has some good music, but it's so annoying when half the time they never use a character's theme ever again.

When Kurt died and all of Guns N’ Roses original members left except for Axl it was a huge loss for 90’s Era Rock So many what could have been great Albums simply never got the chance to be a thing.
Hey Kurt, 28 years later now and we still miss you everyday. I hope you were able to find some kind of peace on the other side. Gone but not forgotten. Rip Kurt
I love how when the song is played in the movie, it's presented in an entirely different context each time. Near the beginning it plays over shots of Gotham looking desolate and rotten, and it's meant to convey how Batman feels about Gotham. At the end, its useage signifies that "Something in the way" was Batman's own obsession with striking fear into the criminals of Gotham - he realizes he needs to give the civilians hope in doing so. Very genius use of the song.
I agree, but that's not how I thought of it at the end. I thought of it as Batman is going to be the one "in the way" of anyone who threatens Gotham, and how he's becoming a defender of the city instead of a vigilante. Your idea sounds better though!
There's a similar thing with other elements, like how Batman shows up at the Penguin's club, and has to fight the twins, but later as Bruce Wayne, is let in, or that one poor person who glares and says something to him as Bruce at the funeral, but later is unmasked as one of the Riddler's followers, and even mentions 'Vengence' in a different context than his own use of it early in the movie, which is a part of his arc in realizing he needs to be, to do more, than just 'vengence', beating up thugs on the streets.
kurts voice will always be the best thing ive ever heard. i love the softness in this song and the raspiness in others, his voice is so beautiful and he is so beautiful i miss him so much. he deserved nothing but happiness and love

Why is this the most underrated nirvana song? Kirk was trying to sing his heart. Saw a resurgence from the Batman. This is and always has been my favorite nirvana song. Live long, sing hard, Kurt.
Exactly. I'm 28, I struggled with almost 10 years of heroin addiction, there was so many days I wanted to end everything. Every waking moment of life, it's just always felt as if something was.... in the way. Something in the way between me and happiness. I've never been a Nirvana super fan or anything crazy, I love them but i wouldn't consider them one of my FAVORITE favorite bands, I'm more of a Metallica/Megadeth/Sabbath guy, but everytime I hear this song it just rips me apart. You can feel Kurt's pain and struggle with his addiction hard in this song, he truly spills his heart out on this one. I'm clean and sober now thank the Lord, but this song always reminds me how no matter how bad/dark of a place you're at in life, there's always hope to get out of that spot and go live a wonderful life.
Yes! I love how the song feels dark and foreboding the first time and yet feels hopeful at the end. Great song, great direction and editing.
I agree, but that's not how I thought of it at the end. I thought of it as Batman is going to be the one "in the way" of anyone who threatens Gotham, and how he's becoming a defender of the city instead of a vigilante. Your idea sounds better though!
The lyrics in the verse also chillingly match up with Riddler's master plan in the finale of the movie.
@@werewolf7262 Basically he just wanted to beat criminals. He had no purpose until the end. He didn't care about anyone's safety

Lyrics:
Underneath the bridge
Tarp has sprung a leak
And the animals I've trapped
Have all become my pets
And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from my ceiling
It's okay to eat fish
'Cause they don't have any feelings
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Underneath the bridge
The tarp has sprung a leak
And the animals I've trapped
Have all become my pets
And I'm living off of grass
And the drippings from my ceiling
It's okay to eat fish
'Cause they don't have any feelings
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
Something in the way, hmm
Something in the way, yeah, hmm
I liked Nirvana in the 90’s, but now that I’m 47 I really love them. Figure that one out.
Ich weiß genau, was du meinst ❤❤❤
@ not sure what you said there, Anna, but you a certainly a hottie!
Such a great song and obviously most people probably knew nirvana before but it fit so damn good with the dark scenes of the new batman movie. Really incredible choice.
Hi I recommend a song and video called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
Foreal. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Yeah I think Smells Like Teen Spirit fits this movie a lot more than this song. Something in the Way more like something is mid and it’s that song.
@@jackbayvinka4721 I think darude sandstorm or never gonna give you up by Rick astley would have fit a lot better than smells like teen spirit

I was 15 when nirvana released Nevermind. My friends and I listen to this song so much. My mom hates this song lol. I use to tell her this is the song I want played at my funeral. She would get so mad lol. I’m 44 now and sometimes if my mom calls I will turn this song on in the background just to wait and see if she says something. And even time she knows this song and still hates it. I’m so glad I grew up with all these bands
What a fuckin' legend. Sometimes I wish I could've been around when older bands hit their stride, but I feel like getting to listen to remastered songs today is a nice alternative.
Bruh you and your mom have problems lol
What is the point.
You hate her right?
We’re the same age, I was 15 when it came out as well.
You live with your mom at 44?
Man, this riff just captures you. His voice too. I can feel the depression inside his voice man. I have been suffering for years too. It's painful. I'm working through it though and getting better everyday. I'm sorry kurt. I'm sorry this life wasn't that long for you. Hope you're doing well in the afterlife.
his voice in the verses sounds really monotone. Like not having the mental energy to do anything when depressed.
Hi... He was awesome.. But don't kid yourself... There is no afterlife
You made me cry😢

THURSDAY OCTOBER 31..👿
As soon as the song started in the movie I had goosebumps. A perfect song for a perfect movie. I hope that people now wil learn to expand their musical horizons because bands like Nirvana are a forever thing. Go and watch their 1993 Unplugged in New York and you'll know what you've been missing all these years. Seattle scene was something out of this world.
Which movie? Jarhead?
@@charlesfink1349 really? Lol
got the unplugged on vinyl :)
@Vincent Vega dude I already know lmao i was just trying to mention a movie other than The Batman. The song was included in JARHEAD, too.
🤓🤓🤓
As someone who grew up listing to nirvana, seeing my friends sing this song is so amazing. Before they were into rap after we saw the batman movie, they started to play that song so much
I love rap, a lot, but learned not to put down other music.. absolutely love Nirvana, Alice In Chains, John Lennon, Pink Floyd.. theres some great music out there, regardless of genre (except country.)
I primarily listen to rap but that doesnt stop me from listening to other great songs in different genres i heard this in the batman movie and i found it and been listening to it since
@@deathsmelody9452 Anyone who listens to rap doesn't deserve to listen to real music
@@dorklord1078 ok 👍
@@dorklord1078 Rap is real music. You clearly haven't heard much of it

Copy and paste lyrics from Google
@@Nemesis_skream well obviously what the fuck do you think they did lmao. What else are you supposed to do?
@@Nemesis_skream so? It’s definitely easier than checking google while watching a video. Whether he typed it or copy/pasted it he did more than a heckler like you under this video. The least you can do is appreciate it
This was my first album. I will never be able to articulate how this is the perfect song of millennials and younger gen-x. This is a perfect song.
