      And Giles is an awesome photographer to spend time with. He's not doing any photo presentations at the moment; I so wish he was though, he's one of the most engaging minds I know when it comes to talking about photography and conflict.

      Funnily enough Alex, we (as a family) have just had Sunday lunch with Giles... he will always serve as an incredible inspirational figure to me. We're opening a gallery this year together! more news soon.

    Proud to say i personally know this legend and have been mentored by him, also still cant belive it but i was gifted his Leica M3 personally by him as a tool to better my photography, Giles is an inspiration

      Vit, that's really very kind of you and I appreciate it. This doc in particular I'd been keen to make for a while since I befriended him just over a decade ago. His work and his ethics to what he does are certainly something I admire. Thanks for taking the time to drop by.

    Hi Neale just listened to your podcast with Giles and then found the link to your film. If the podcast wasn't enough the film has left me quite speechless. Moving and uplifting, thank you very much for shining a light on a remarkable photographer.

      Thank you David, really kind words. I'm lucky enough to count Giles now as one of my closest friends, yet there is still a special reverence afforded whenever we talk photography.

      Thank you Michael. I spent a happy hour (coffee not alcohol) with him today funnily enough... just going through some of his new methods to work, new Lightroom settings and so on. It's nice to have a tech chat with people sometimes too (though I much prefer the art side). I mentioned your comment to him.

    In another lifetime i would be too.
    Either capturing the moment, or otherwise, living it, and being the one "captured", as in the victim of war.
    My grandmother's brother went thru Majdanek, and I've visited it plenty of times.

    Where do you find the subjects to these short documentaries? A rhetorical question, as I’m fascinated by their stories, and just always want to know more. This is also down to your great film making, you allow these people to breath and talk and capture their personality through their story telling. Wonderful work.

      Thanks for your kind comment. Giles is actually a friend, though we met through the medium of photography. I thought it strange how nobody had ever made a film about him. As for interview technique, yes, it's important to let people lead the way.

      Thank you Kevin. I've been lucky enough to sit for hours with this man and just talk about imagery until we can't remember how the context began. He is indeed an inspiring photographer. He works more locally to his home now and is embarking on a series of projects about the spaces around him.

It's incredibly rewarding when a photographer gifts me time to ask them questions. Giles' film was somewhat different of course. I pointed the camera... and he just went!

I know he's not necessarily inclined to, but I wish he'd take his thoughts on tour and speak to courses in schools, colleges and unis, because his real coalface knowledge of making pictures is priceless.
