    I got this lens one week ago. So far I am very satisfied with it. I have done landscape, floral and macro shots with it. The only thing I don't like it the focus ring at the front of the lens. It is narrow and has a short turning radius. It is in and out of focus with just a small adjustment. Besides that It is a great lens.

    Thanks for the video! Have one doubt. How much you can zoom in on an object that is 10-20 feet distance. This is useful to know for wildlife photography. For example, you want to zoom in real close on a frog in pond while you are at the edge of the pond (hardly 10-15 ft away from the frog) . How much close shot you can get? Asking because, heard Tamron 18-400 is not good at this, so want to understand your experience. Thanks in advance!

    Great review thanks.
    Just a note for potential buyers wanting to purchase this lens for video work on the Canon C series Video cameras....
    Sadly for me the Tamron 18-400 is not compatible with any of the Canon Cinema series video cameras C100 C300 C200 and Tamron USA confirmed in an Email to me that they have no plans to address the issue. This is a pity for me because it would have been great as a 22x zoom for run and gun (the Tamron 16-300 works great - go figure)
    Perhaps if enough of us contacted Tamron they could do something, because the original builds of the Tamron 16-300 also wouldn't work but the factory fixed the issues in later builds.

    • @GeorgesCamerasTV
      @GeorgesCamerasTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thing to know, thanks Frank! We will bring it up with Tamron as well

    • @59FRP
      @59FRP 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. That would be awesome if you could bring it up with Tamron.
      I contacted the Tamron Australian distributor, Blonde Robot via thier Facebook page and although sympathetic, said they were only concentrating on the stills market for now.
      Again a huge dissapointment for me.
      I used to work for Georges Camera Stores in the City and sold the original Tamrons like the 70-210 and always loved thier innovation they are a tremendous company.
      Your video reviews are well done, fun, but cover all the main features we need to know, well done keep up the great work!

      Frank Redward, I understand your feeling, but believe me i tested most of Tamron lenses, early copies, they mostly sucks, especially the 24-70 F2.8. but also they have some Models, such as 15-30 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 G2.. amazing Lenses, but not all of them are on same level.

    I have the older Tamron 18-270 vc lens and I have to say the build quality and image quality with this 18-400 is alot better.
    But I noticed the vc is nowhere near as good as the 18-270, even at the same focal length.

      Hey mate! The Nikkor 18-300 is a pretty good all in one lens and we feel that image quality wise it's a bit better. However the image stabilisation and that extra 100mm on the 18-400 is worth considering. It's up to you what you would feel would benefit you most.

    • @GeorgesCamerasTV

    • @koolkutz7
      @koolkutz7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used on a Nikon DX camera such as the D500 etc 400mm would equate to 600mm! Bear in mind this lens is specifically made for APS-c crop sensor cameras so if you did try and use it on a FX (full-frame) camera like the D810 you would get vignetting or you'd have to use it in DX mode which is a bit pointless.

      @@sachithmalalagama7166 Hi. I didn't buy any of them, because after reading a lot I found out that if you're looking for sharpness, you should just stay away from zoom lenses, so I went for prime lenses. I hope it helps. Regards from Italy

    • @sachithmalalagama7166
      @sachithmalalagama7166 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MaxRiley Thanks mate! I’m new to photography and I don’t expect professional level photos. I just need a good general purpose / travel lens. So I might go with the 16-300 which is cheaper and I feel the 16mm wide angle will be better than the 18mm one. Any thoughts? Cheers

    • @MaxRiley
      @MaxRiley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sachithmalalagama7166 if you are new to photography you will soon realise that what you will really want eventually will be prime lenses both for sharpness and bokeh, but only after you will have spent some money on zoom lenses. Especially at the very beginning we all went through the stage of wanting a very wide focal range. If you really are going to buy a zoom lens I suggest you not to go too extreme. 16-300 you will lose a lot of quality especially between 16-35 and 200-300 and that's very frustrating. Keep me updated, buddy.

      We've tested a large majority of them as they've been around for a long time. We can say with confidence that the range, speed and VC works brilliantly in comparison to what Tamron/Sigma have put out and even the Canon and Nikon 18-200/300s

    I would no longer recommend this lens, up to a week ago this was my favorite lens, but a week ago the lens barrel began getting much stiffer, and at 3/4 zoom or beyond it stopped focusing. Now, a week later and you have to force the lens to even half way zoom and it will now only focus up to half way zoom, the lens is basically dying as I try to use it and this is a brand new lens. I had been using it daily to do photography in Acadia National Park.

    400mm so 600mm FF equivalent. That is wildlife territory etc.. Doubt that a real wildlife shooter would use this lens. They use the telephoto primes or longer quality zooms but not this. So what about the enthousiastic or walk around photographer? What will he shoot at 400mm and how often? People want this crazy long focal lenghts but have no idea why. Differentiate your lenses to your needs, a good quality mid range zoom for the most of your pics and if you want longer reach sometime get a second hand 70-200 or something. So you have quality lenses for each situation but not this 22x zoom compromise. For me this is a waste of money.

      I'm the type of guy who likes this type of lense. My use-case: walking in the nature, taking pictures of my family and the nature. Suddenly an interesting plane or bird flies by and I only have a few seconds to take a picture. And with this lense I'm covered in all cases. I'd add one or two fast primes, that's it.
