Very, very good video! My argument against germinating grass seed is that we are always told to keep grass seed "moist" and not "wet" to avoid suffocation and rotting. Having the seed completely submerged in water couldn't be more contradicting. Your idea to dunk the seed vs keeping it submerged was very smart. You may have found the pre germinating sauce 🎉 👏. You also put a lot of seed in those trays and had great results. It could have been because of the controlled environment, but do you think the theory of overcrowding grass seed causing competition for resources is a myth? Edit: Sorry, one more question. How did the sod hold up where you filled those bare spots? I've thought about doing this but wasn't sure how it would hold up in the long run going from indoor to outdoor. Thanks.
Thanks! I know what you mean. I was conflicted on whether to dunk or keep submerged. Dunking worked great! It was a successfull experiment! Pre germinating sauce hahaha. Good one! I don't think overcrowding grass seed is a big issue with competition for resources. We over-seed our lawn each fall right over the top of the grass that's already there. No overcrowding issue when doing that. I haven't personally experienced overcrowding issues when it comes to grass whether it's planting fresh seeds or overseeding. The sod in the bare spots held up great! It was summertime, so there was a struggle with making sure they stayed moist. However, they have survived and have blended in perfectly now. Doing it in summertime is not recommended, but that's when my trays were ready, so that's when I did the experiment. It worked out in the end. Pregerminating in trays and pregerminating in the net bags both worked well. Sorry for late response, and I hope I answered all your questions!
Thank you for this great information i have a bag full of seeds myself and didn't know how to plant it- i will follow your advice and pre-germinate it.☺
Thank you for sharing
You're welcome!
This was a great idea! I have never even thought of this!
Mind blowing haha. Best done in Spring or fall, not summer or winter.

Glad I could help! One thing though, I wouldn't plant it out during hot weather. This is best done during spring or fall. :D
@@gardeningwithcaitlin thanks for adding this last bit- i will do it in fall then.☺
