Are you aware how this fly got its name? Supposedly a client was have such great success using this pattern on the Bighorn River in Montana, he told the guide that the pattern was so easy to catch fish with, that even a blind man could use it... henceforth, the Ray Charles was the new name of this popular pattern. Very good instructional video, Hans.
this ray charles is an excellent pattern and well constructed. When I tie it, I don't even bother with the wire rib since the fish' teeth usually tear through them regardless. From a production standpoint, it saves 30 seconds per fly. What I found will increase the duration and strength is to throw some hardened epoxy over the pearl flash (aka John Barr tactic) which has translucency and far better resiliency. Keep us the tying, I enjoy all your videos. Your Bozeman fishing friend, Mike
Excellent instruction! I've found a few Ray Charles videos where they don't use the wire. IMO, if you tie these without the wire, you'll get one trout per fly before the tinsel goes! Good job!
OOO oooo OOOO, The old vise is back.... If you don't like this vise so much you can send here! Go back to using that new thing you have been sporting..lol... Nice fly by the way, gonna give it a go here..
