One thing that I love about the tech industry is the acceptance and almost encouragement of employees moving on to bigger and better things. It doesn't seem like anyone expects you to apply to a job and stick around for the next 30 years. I've even heard some folks talk about it being a red flag if they see that someone hasn't progressed in their career in over 5 years. As someone who gets bored after a few years, this really excites me!

Way to go, Femke. I'm just a little over 4 years at my current job but in transition to a different team with the same company. I absolutely agree that when I don't see myself grow - in my craft, soft skills, leadership and financial return - clearly it's time to move on. The last straw in my case is that I realized the product team I've working with no longer value my work. Being the user researcher who built the research practice from ground up for that team, it really shattered my belief system and makes me wonder if what I've been doing is just for my own entertainment. I accepted an internal offer in a heartbeat without looking back.

It’s a lot info, but I realized there’s no process so I have to help that out. Politics is always a downer. surprisingly my previous job I worked with senior executives (1 title before CEO!) from america and singapore! You deserve to pay more, you were super underpaid at Uber!! I couldnt believe your talent got paid so little. Congrats again :)
Also worked at Uber a few years ago. They never promote. Their NDAs are also really strict. I feel for you there as well. I can barely put anything in my portfolio for the 1.5 years I spent at Uber. You were also SUPER underpaid there. Especially because you did a hell of a job scaling the Uber Designer Twitter as well. You should have gotten comped for that at a company with hundreds of designers. I moved to another food delivery tech company and I currently make $140k as a Product Designer and will probably get a significant bump when I make senior in about a year. Really happy for you, I enjoy seeing you share your success. Thanks for the transparency. Good luck in the new rule.

This is so relatable now because I'm job hunting while working for an MNC with stability and perks and all but ... it's all starting to get mundane from day to day. I have opportunities to join startups but the thought of it still scares me even though I will get a pay bump. It takes so much courage to move on ... and I'm still unsure what I really want.
Moving on is really scary! It took my about 6 months to actually admit to myself that it was time. It's definitely a process full of so many emotions. Good luck on your search!
