It's a pity you didn't research more thoroughly because when you finish at the Vatican museums you can take the back way straight into the Basilica di San Pietro.

There’s always next time! We weren’t there for too long. We had already been in the Museum for a couple hours, and had to make the most of our day. Our basilica ticket wasn’t a skip the line either
You can ONLY if you’re with an authorized guide of the province of Rome that is also accredited to the Vatican museums. Or with a Vatican guide.
