In a field of green, I stare up at a peaceful sky. The burning sun falling toward the horizon. My lungs inhale their deepest breath and at last my heart is calm. My sword is tired. My armor; rusting. I am not as strong as I once was. Even rest does not come easy. And as my weary limbs fall heavy, I hear the whispers of lost friends in the whistling winds. They call me home. I know somewhere unseen my loved ones await me. Soon, I will join them. Until then, my damaged hands tell stories of the past. Battles won and battles lost. At times, I wish I had been the one to fall. Still, I carry on. Uncertain of what is next, I find it difficult to care. Empty is my hopeful heart yet relentless is my spirit. My doubtful soul cries for someone’s prayers to include my name. On I tread till evergreen, holding onto the dream that even when I’m gone, I’ll never be forgotten.
