Arp Odyssey is one amazing synthesizer. I totally love its sound even more than the Moog’s. It is so raw, organic, punchy, cutting, mellow you name it. Probably the most versatile synth out there. And on top of it it’s a legend just as much as a Mini. Great demo and presentation. You can check out my Odyssey funk demos if you like👍Keep up the good work!

This has been great in helping me understand the ODYSSEY. (I Recently bought the Behringer clone, which is very good) .The squishy buttons you mentioned: Left is pitch down, centre is mod and r is pitch up. They take a bit of getting used to!

To answer your question as to what the three control buttons do on the in the later models. (I've got a Korg/Arp Odyssey.) First off, they're not actually buttons, but pressure switches/pads, that act as springed potentiometers the harder you push. The one to the left bends the pitch down, the one the right bends the pitch up, and the one in the middle is for vibrato. (And boy, they're hard to push on mine!)

Thanks for doing this video. I've had my KARP Odyssey for 2 years now and although it's not the most used synth in my collection recently I've taken it with me whenever I'm away from my studio so I've been digging into how to use it better. If I had to get rid of all but one of my mono synths, I would keep the Odyssey (I know it's duophonic, but I'm not calling it a "duo-synth"). There's just nothing else like it, or quite as versatile in my opinion. Between the duophony, the wealth of modulation options and unusually competent sample & hold section, there's very little the Odyssey can't do if you know what you're doing. Also, the ARP oscillators have a really unique sound to them; they're brighter than a Moog, but not piercing. The sawtooth is still the creamiest sawtooth I've heard on a synth, and it only gets better when you run it through the 4075 filter.

    • @murderousmaths

Occasionally I crank my Odyssey up through a Marshall guitar amp. The aggression I can get from it is unreal! (Followed by the aggression from my family if they're in the house!)

@@murderousmaths There is an international jazz festival there at the moment. I am sure an odyssey would be looked on kindly there after Herbie Hancock gave it the seal of approval.

To the bemusement of my family, I love a nap to a synth sequence, and tonight was no exception.
The previous video ran out and yours came on after. As I was waking up, I'm thinking...since when did Chris Evans (DJ) get into synthesisers? 🤔

Following the ancient history of the indian subcontinent, I hereby declare myself as the “Eklavya” of You, sire “Drona”, eklavya hadn’t the privilege to go to Drona to learn the ancient method of warfare, yet by listening and observing his Sensei, he became the most deadliest Pupil of Drona, which he wasn’t aware of, even the great “Arjuna” whom Drona taught all his might, Eklavya just was on a cosmic scale which Arjuna couldn’t even comprehend and destroyed and demolished him!,
Sadly, Drona, asked Eklavya to sacrifice his both eyes as the sacrifice for his master, without a second of doubt Eklavya gauged out his both eyes and gave em to Drona, his sensei, that’s how Arjuna became the greatest Archer!
