      Finishing MSc and PhD before going to medical school. Is it seen as not determined enough to join medical school earlier? I really wanted to strengthen my research skills as it requires full commitment and not sure if doing PhD during my residency would have allowed me to be involved and strengthen research skills as much as I would if I am focusing only on MSc or PhD. I am in my 5th year of PhD and applying to medical schools in Canada. Do medical school also consider age as a negative factor when accepting students? Since I finished MSc and almost done my PhD, I am not in my mid-twenties. Does being in thirties affect medical school acceptance chance?

    In premed for PA to add ND after and do integrative medicine. Single mom at 40 going back to school after 20 years as a Massage Therapist/Aromatherapist/Yoga Therapist… it’s time
    As of now I’m excited about it but seeing all these vids on Burnout, hating it, etc… def helps to prepare for the experience and expectations
    Thank you for these vids, I’ve been obsessively watching them 😆⚛️🧠

    Why is clinical research not held to the same value as bench? Also if I participate in clinical research and get published, would be able to use that for residences? If I have clinical research experience, does that count as research experience in general and can use that experience to apply to bench labs?

    So I’m going to throw a curveball. Other competitor premed entities (Med School HQ/Dr. Gray) argue research is not needed for admission for med school. Other entities disagree though, especially in 2023. What is your thoughts- 100% needed?

    • @MM-rm4mp
      @MM-rm4mp ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think the most prestigious schools will require it (think Harvard, John’s Hopkins, etc). Most schools won’t require but will still value it. Ultimately if a premed wants to pursue it, great, but if not that’s okay too

    • @Maddawg31415

      @@MM-rm4mp I figured. I don’t know of a school explicitly requiring it, but it would be nice if they did

      It’s not needed but I think it’s becoming a soft requirement these days. If you look at MSAR, around 80-90% of all matriculants have some sort of research experience. When people talk about research being required only for top schools, I think they refer to publications since these schools are more research focused.

    • @MedSchoolInsiders
      @MedSchoolInsiders  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Research is absolutely not required, and you'll find instances of students getting into top programs without research. However, they will have very compelling applications for other reasons. Because of how beneficial research can be, we definitely recommend most students pursuing it.

    If you want to developed a great medical profession start mentoring and hands on experiences with them over books . Ex look at why Korean plastic surgeon are better than American because they perform a lot per day and it just what they learn at the job craft their skills . If we take that back n do the same for our students here in America instead of throws them books bc leading them to medical school entrance they already have proven them their smartness n to forced them to even more is a bit too much .. minimal is fine but focus on hands on with their job is better

    We can't have more and more MDs who leave their practice, to become Tik Tok dancers or so-called counsellors who provide no actually medical treatments. Especially when there is a shortage of physicians.
    The insurance compagnies, HMOs, etc, have really fucked things up for the médical profession.

    I’m a non-trad pre-med student (interested in DO), and I don’t have the lab experience to qualify for the opportunity of a research position. Is research as an extracurricular more geared towards MD schools, or is it relevant for DO as well?

    • @MedSchoolInsiders
      @MedSchoolInsiders  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      First, many research positions don't actually require any lab experience, so don't let that hold you back. Secondly. research experience will help for both MD and DO, however it's generally more helpful for research-focused programs.
