- This is my unboxing and first impressions of the new Sony Xperia 1 VI, the upgrade to last years Sony Xperia 1 V. The Xperia 1 VI has some big changes that I'm excited about, and a big price tag - and sadly it's not available in the United States so I had to buy one that was imported.

1) Please compare the DAC between the V and VI and see if there is an actual improvement. No reviewer has done that
2) How much better is the Macro mode in the VI compared to just taking a close up shot from the main camera and cropping on the V.
3) Does the new screen downgrade really improve the battery life significantly
4) Any difference in network connectivity in the imported VI compared to the US variant V
5) Does it get hot to the touch while using the camera. My V gets hot when I use the camera. Is the new vapour chamber helping to dissipate heat?
6) Is the flash on the new VI better and brighter than the V
I don't have a VI but have seen some reviews... 2. Macro is WAY better than close up on V. 4. VI is missing some important bands, but seems like TMobile has most for coverage in "normal" areas and one of the supported bands is rolling out in the near future. Good questions!

Yeah loving my Sony Xperia 1 mark VI since 2024-06-10. Since then I have been removing myself from the Apple iPhone 15 pro max "ecosystem" day by day. I am like 90% converted to Android. Oh yeah, thank you Sony for this beast! Keep the Sony Xperia 1 mark VI content coming. Thanks beforehand 🇸🇪🖖

i’ve been a long time ios user and rn on 15 but i was always fascinated by the utilitarian approach of sony’s to phones rather than this delicate jewellery like feel of iphones and most androids these days. do you think the sony’s performance & camera keeps up with your 15 pro?

So I bought the Sony case for my Xperia 1v. Once you put a screen protector on it, it sticks out to the same level or just passed the case. I dropped it a couple times in that case and it broke the screen protector each time. Ended up going with a cheaper case on Amazon that seems to have a bit better protection. I wish there were more case options for these phones, but I guess that's what I should expect for getting into something that isn't really popular compared to a lot of other phones. Look forward to seeing what you think of it though. What carrier will you be trying it on?

Adam, glad to see you managed to get your hands on it in US! So far I have totally mixed feelings about new Xperia. Since 3 days I'm using it in same time with Galaxy s24U. Positives so far are insane battery life and form factor on plus of Xperia. Photo quality is similar, Xperia is often oversharpening compare to Ultra (strange isn't it?). Sometimes Xperia is taking better sometimes Ultra. In terms of video Galaxy is more reliable and recording with better quality. System has sierd LAG whoch appers when it is changing refresh rate. It is annoying as impacting this OS smoothness, specially while typing...at the moment I'm in position that in my opinion s24U is much better option as whole package.

Well I'm glad you were able to find one because resources as you predicted appear to be very scarce. Can't wait to see some comparisons between the Xperia Mark V. Mostly the cameras, the displays, and network coverage and reception.

No brand can make it in the US market without deals with major carriers unfortunately, it's up to the consumers associations to break this harmful monopoly through class action lawsuits. That's how they keep consumers in the trapped in the Apple/Samsung bubble. 3:56
Do you get 5g with it ?
It sucks that Sony isn't making the phone available for the US this year. I hope they don't make this a normal thing and I hope they start giving trade-in value for their devices. Because as a high end flagship device it sucks for people who want to trade up and literally can't trade-in the device for any credit. Selling is always a option but then you're subject to possibly having multiple devices even if you don't want too.

I'm happy you got a hold of the new phone! I think they didnt bring it to the US because they want to see how it does in other territories, since they might have a bigger market there. Instead of gambling on the US.
Yeah. I had to buy it which yeah, that’s pretty normal for most folks but I had hoped for a review unit like last year but Sony America couldn’t get me one oddly enough and I had my sons graduation trip to NYC which took priority over the $1300 phone. But, it’s here now and I’m happy to start testing it.
I'm happy to see that Sony sticks to the punch hole free screen. It makes the phone slightly longer but as the screen got wider and less tall it's more than fine to compensate for the extra top and bottom bezels, much better than with the 21:9 screens. Looks nice but I always liked the Sony phones except for their silly aspect ratios. I would love to see the same thing happening to the Xperia 10 series. A wider 19,5:9 ratio in a more affordable package.
The big question for me is the connectivity in the USA.

Hey man thanks for yhe video! Quick question, my Xperia 1 mark 2 just lost all signal in the US, and it seems like AT&T is ditching Xperia 1 mark 2. I am trying to get a mark 6 but I'm not sure if AT&T will work on that. Do you have any idea?❤
That happened to me as well. I was going on a trip and I wanted my S24U and I was on the plane by the time it arrived.
Happened to me with my S22 ultra two years ago when I want to Barcelona for MWC. Showed up a few hours after I left.

How is it on Verizon? Compared to the 1 V with the missing spectrum bands?
has the pocket mode+proximity sensor issue been fixed? I have a IV and the experience with it was a nightmare, the screen always activates while in pocket (yes, double tap to wake screen on but I always had it on my previous phones with 0 issues) messing with the quick settings and emergency calls menu etc.
I guess it’s just too tough to be in the USA market when the phone success is at the mercy of carriers. Most US customer still only buy phones from carriers, right?

This variant I'm using only gets LTE on T-Mobile. I have the Taiwan version. There is a Japan and EU version too, I believe. Maybe those would have better luck but I don't know

Have you noticed any lag/stuttering when opening folders or scrolling? Mine does that when throttling from 15 to 120hz all the time.... Nice videos!!

I had previous xperia phones and those vibrating weren't too strong is it strong enough compared to other phones like Samsung? What do you think?
And just one more question. About the flashlight.. Do you think it's bright enough (my sister had s8 and s23 fe and it's flashlight much brighter.. Than eg. Xz premium..) you think now it's better?

Does the phone support video output through the USB port? I want to see if you can connect something like a n HDMI cable to USB cable to connect to the TV. I plan on having this phone as a emulation machine and wanted to know if it has this feature. Also does it support android auto and smartwatches. I believe some import phones like the Vivo x Fold 3 pro does not support android and smart watches. Awesome video, keep it up!
Yes, Video out is supported over USB-C. Up to 120Hz as well if you have a 120Hz display!

This is true.
People have got it working on Verizon if you take your already-activated SIM from an old phone and put it in the 1 VI. But it is not an "approved device" on Verizon's network so they won't let you activate the IMEI. Not sure that it works as well as the 1 V on Verizon as the 1 V has more spectrum bands than the 1 VI that are specifically geared to the American cell networks. Would be interested in seeing the difference in network speed and connectivity between the 1 V American version and 1 VI international version on Verizon.

Im in the US. I Had a 1 mark 11 and I was going to buy the 1v1. But since they weren't releasing to the US I bought a Samsung s24 ultra. 100% happy with my choice. The Samsung is actually larger than the Sony. Which is great for movies. The camera is great for my needs. The cell signal is much better than the Sony on Verizon. And Verizon gave me a $800 dollar credit for the old mark ll. I didn't realize how much I was missing using the Sony

Unfortunately there are not many true options if a global version is your preference. Samsung and maybe the Google Pixel 8 Pro or upcoming Google Pixel 9 series are probably your only option. Maybe Oneplus 12 or upcoming Oneplus 13. As much as I love my Oneplus 11 and Oneplus in general, I don't know if I can comfortably put them up their with a Sony flagship.

No clue how Sony make FHD+ 1 VI even sharper than 2K of 1 V...I guess the 1 V had compressed too over, but the FHD+ texture in the image is not very smooth due to low density, hope they solved it in next gen.

No, it’s quite the other way around. We fumbled the ball. Their phones were barely selling in the US market. Maybe it was due to the lack of advertisement or customer support.
Stupid high phone prices and archaic OS support. No one wants to buy a phone that will be almost worthless for trade in, in a year.

2 things that I got disappointed from the iV is the camera, should have been a serious upgrade from the iV, and they should have keep the camera pro from the mark V, i see that in mark VI the camera app is totally same as iPhone and samsung😢😢😢😢

Men this is 6,5 screen full HD+ its this same like 4k because 95 content was in 1080p 😅
You don't see the difference at this resolution actually. Only when browsing/using apps, which support 4K. And yeah, the battery is 2nd best of all phones right now, which is a big win in my opinion.
