I gave up watching the current "Coronation Street" a while ago, and have been watching the "Classic Corrie" series on ITV3. I always record them and this means that I can fast-forward through the ads, which are all about things like funeral plans, since the afternoon audience will consist mainly of elderly viewers, who are presumed to be worried about popping their clogs. (If I have to see that "Hello June" advert once more, I'll go barmy!) When I started rewatching it, the great Hilda Ogden was still part of the cast, and the series could be described as "comedy of character", with a number of brilliant duos - Stan and Hilda, Vera and Jack, Rita and Mavis, Derek and Mavis. The dialogue often sparkled. I think I can detect the rot setting in during the current programmes in "Classic Corrie", which has got up to the late nineteen-nineties. There already seems to be a diminution in the characterful dialogue and an increasing stress on a would-be "dramatic" story-line. Over the succeeding years, the writers became more and more desperate for sensation, with murders, rapes, serial infidelities and the like, with the result that, if you look at the current cast, it's hard to work out who is related to whom since almost everyone has been "doing it" with almost everyone else.
Have you got the full episodes of Corrie when Don Brennan kidnaps Alma into his taxi and then drives her into the canal, if you have could you PLEASE PLEASE Upload them.

Such iconic music
1998 was the last 'good year' for Coronation Street
