Len Dawson to me represents the early days of the NFL and their efforts to give the fans a really well done look at the most recent weeks games in much more detail than we ever had before. HBO's "Inside the NFL" hosted by Len Dawson for so many years was reason enough to pay for HBO.

From the 1:48 mark up until the 2:23 mark of this video there is a picture of Len Dawson walking towards the sideline and about to shake the hand of Chiefs Head Coach Hank Stram. It was mistakenly reported that this photo was take before the Super Bowl #4. This was actually the moment when Dawson walked off the field after the Chiefs had secured a 23-7 lead over the Vikings in the Super Bowl game and Dawson was named as the MVP.

Correct...when Hank sent in Mike Livingston to take the last couple of snaps so Lenny could get applause coming out. This moment is captured in the famous NFL Films presentation of SBIV. Good catch....

NFL Films had Stram miked up for SB IV, and his bubbly personality made him a great choice. Their film of the game famously had him calling 65 Toss Power Trap, and when it worked, Stram giggling and repeating “65 Toss Power Trap-ha, ha, ha!” It became legendary. Stram said that people would come up to him in airports for years afterward and say “Hey! Coach! How about that 65 Toss Power Trap!”

Hank Stram's tomb is in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.. There is a sign placed there which says "Coach We Finally Did It...K.C Chiefs Super Bowl Champs". I have a photo of it on my phone.
I met him in 1986 at Waldenbooks on Canal St, downtown New Orleans, for the signing of his book 'They're Playing My Game'.. I didn't ask him to, but he wrote a personal greeting to me in the book, thanking me for coming to see him and purchasing the book. Sadly, I lost the book years ago in Katrina house flood, alongwith all my Jesuit high school yearbooks, which I had on the floor under my desk in a box...they were beyond any hope of salvaging...
Coach Stram was a gentleman of total class.. I forgot to tell him I was able to watch Super Bowl IV at a friend's house, even though it was blacked out in New Orleans. He had a tall TV antenna on a two-story house that picked up the game from the Baton Rouge CBS station.

WR Otis Taylor also wrote a book called "The Need to Win". He talked about how Hank Stram would climb into a "crane" like device to overlook the practice field. On one occasion he called Mr. Taylor into his office to discuss his play and what Mr. Taylor notoced first were the many boxes of candy/chocolates throughout Stram's office. Stram had a huge "sweet tooth" and these confectionaries were perks for his promotion of candy companies that he would endorse. Unfortunately for Mr. Stram his "sweet tooth" caused him to develop diabetes and he ultimately passed away from complications related to it

The SD coach Dawson was talking about at the end was Tommy Prothro. Lance Rentzel said Prothro used to smoke 5 packs of cigarettes daily. He always had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

rodger that. There is a pic on the net of Dawson at halftime of SB1 sitting on a folding chair each elbow on a knee. In one hand is a Fresca, in the other a smoke. He looks beat up in the shot.

I was told by Dave Edwards who played 14 years with the Dallas Cowboys, that they were given pain medicine before the game and at halftime there would be cigarettes in their lockers for them to smoke, so the nicotine would kick that pain medication back in. He said it was a big cloud of smoke in there.

The Chiefs of that Era after '72 just were "old." Those teams could go 10 years winning, playoffs and Championships. They were true Dynasties. Today there aren't any because they eak out just enough wins to get to the playoffs and Championships and win or lose close.
They don't dominate and they get "old" in 6-8 years. Rebuilding then becomes a constant process to stay ahead of other like teams.

The big mouth woman interviewing doesn't know what she's talking about. She claims the coach/QB handshake at 1:50 is BEFORE the game which is clearly not the case as Dawson's uniform is already dirty from play-action. More likely after the win was secured just before the final whistle. Why are women allowed to do these kind of interviews anyway? She never played the game so how can she begin to understand it? Ridiculous.
Note to feminists, we can't do everything you can do, and you can't do everything we can do. Cultural differences will never exceed biological ones.
