Vasco wanted to make sure the music arrangement fit the players he had brought along. With such a heavy drummer and a cohort of great guitarists he just decided to use them to the fullest.
Hey man! I'm following Vasco like 30 years or something already. About your question why he went heavier ... Here's a bit my view how I have experienced his career until now. He once said in an interiew long time ago: songs are like human beings. First they are born, and then they grow and get developed ... and the growing never stops. Nice metafore :-) And I think that's the thing he does ... he gives space to his musicians to be creative, pump up and make new versions of songs. And some of them are really breath taking good! And if in your band, you have guys like Stef Burns, Maurizio Solieri that works since ages with Vasco Rossi, Alberto Rocchetti, a extremely good keyboard player, and all the other great session musicians that give their own input in songs ... then we can expect incredibly great things of those guys :-)
Fun fact: Vasco Rossi has participated twice in the Sanremo Festival (the festival won by the Maneskin that allowed them to go to the Eurovision Song Contest). He ranked last and second-last.
Vasco arriva diretto perché i testi delle sue canzoni sono poesie di vita quotidiana ,senza fronzoli un genio ti consiglio di leggere i suoi testi un poeta
Vasco is a great rocker and an immense poet. If you want to listen to "quante volte" and "ridere di te ", Vasco is damned realistic but also deluded and disillusioned, always deep and true. If I can give you some advice, always read the translations of the lyrics of the Italian songs you listen to, because there is so much in the lyrics and it's a shame to miss it.
Guido Elmi, Vasco's old friend and historical producer, was a big fan of Scandinavian metal (and metal in general). He always said that the softer music was for studio albums aimed at a larger audience, but for the real fans at live gigs it took the heavier stuff. He always pushed Vasco towards heavier stuff. Sadly, Guido died shortly after the big concert in Modena, their biggest success, in 2017. I am a big fan of Vasco, I went to many concerts (also in Modena 2017) but I consider the latest studio albums so-so, but the live stuff where you can hear the old songs is just awesome.
The fact is that many of these songs, like "Gli spari sopra", came out in a "different era" for the italian market. An era where the hard rock was really really hard to sell, so of course he has to adapt to sell some album, but also without selling off, he still manage to keep his style. Later on, I believe early 2000s if I remember correctly, with the album "Buoni o Cattivi", the turn to a harder sound was obvious and most importantly was a sound that can sell copies now even in Italy, so that sums up why he decided to raise the bar for his songs. That, and the fact that many old fans were almost pissed when he was starting to make lyrics ballads. And of course I really thank him for this decision, since now a live event of him is truly an opera, and explaining to people why I like Vasco as good as I like Tool, probably even more, is a lot easier ❤
You got it. He wanted to keep his songs updated to new generations (a great example is "c'è chi dice no"). Furthermore, he gives spaces to his new musicians to improvise or give new nuances to the old songs.
I Love Vasco since i was 7!! He mark my life, and i discovered Offspring music and many more after him! I'm so happy that you react Vasco's videos!! Cheers from Sicily brother 🤗❤

It's nice to see someone who likes Vasco in America too .. Thanks! I recommend "Il mondo che vorrei live Bologna 2008"... I like your video, keep it up!! 🤟🏻🎸
My opinion about the double version of his songs (pop and metal) is that metal isn't and will never be mainstream in Italy. Italy has a huge tradition of mellow love songs, or just light pop songs, maybe It comes from our classical music roots (we call ourself the nation of "bel canto" "nice singing") or because of our romantic/cheerful attitude (we aren't and we will never be "negative" or heavy like let's say germans or nordic people), we are the country of the sun, the sea and good food. Even during contemporary era the heaviest singers go the less people listen to their music, the less producers are interested in them. I Guess Vasco knows It really well and he produces his music to sound rock pop radio friendly as possible, but during concerts It's clear that he lets his musicians go wild. But you can be sure that most of the audience you see in the stadium would never go to a metal concert. Think about Maneskin, they are cool and rock af right now, if they follow the path of every rock musician in Italy they will soon mellow out for a more radio friendly music to gain more fans because this is the kind of pressure musicians have in Italy from producers. I saw It happening too many times. They maybe have a chance if they leave Italy and try to become truly international, keeping their rock identity.
I never thoght of Vasco as a hard rock artist. His studio albums are all more soft. I think of him like an artist who writes his songs using an acoustic guitar. At the same time he can perform them harder on stage. Besides this Modena Park concert, he always liked to do few but huge concerts in his tours. And he always liked to have great performers in his band. So I think he organized the tours choosing the "sound" he was feeling in that moment.
You should check "Generale". it's a cover from another italian singer, Francesco De Gregory, but you need to find the lyrics. They're the most important part of the song
He does more "metal" versions of his songs live because his musicians are more from that world. He chooses always great professional session musicians!
Hey Angelo I checked your music last night, I listened to all songs of both albums, I liked them especially Shot Down and Numb, some are a kick in the gut, so sad, it was a bit hard for me to catch all the lyrics not being english my mother tongue. You have a beautiful voice.
If it can help: Vasco's live different versions are quite much influenced by the lineups. Through his whole carreer he's been very open minded to changes, especially with drummers and solo guitarists, so you can see people coming with new ideas, new "moods" to old tracks, and the whole concert turned veeeery sideways. "fronte del palco" tour was a big shift in many oldtime tracks, I was f*ckin 9yo, just take a look at his drummers' list and you can get a grasp of how many styles and influences were dropped in like daisy cutters. From Bad English to Madonna to Evanescence. Greatest game changers were on the guitar Andrea Braido, Stef of course (Jesus, live he's a LEGEND since Y&T), Davide Devoti at the rhythmic guit back in the days. Drums by Moffett, Aronoff, Baird, Deen OMG Castronovo literally blasted the stage. Clara Moroni, the backup singer, also took it up a couple notches with her performance. Tons of energy with her voice. Tons of work for regular guys like me playing drums in a tribute band 😅😅😅 BTW Great reaction videos man! Cheers from Rome 🤟
E se per sopravvivere qualunque porcheria, lasciate che succeda e dite: "non è colpa mia", non sorridete, gli spari sopra...solo per voi...ENG: And if in order to survive whatever rubbish, you let it happen and say: 'it's not my fault', you don't smile, you shoot at it... just for you... Grande Vasco. Ascoltate ascoltate...
his concerts sound heavier because it's natural to re-model a song after many years. He's always been a pop/rock artist and the sound of his albums reflected the music styles of its times and, most of all, the italian melodic rules. That's why in Italy many people do not consider him a proper rock artist, many of his albums are full of italian melodic pop. The fact that during the live concerts he transforms himself into (an almost) metal singer is a good thing but his recording works still certify his pop soul.
My mom has been a fan of Vasco since he started, she used to sing me “La favola Antica” when I was little to put me to sleep. If you ever get a chance to listen to it and read the translation, please do it. It’s more like a story, than a rock song, but I think you would like the lyrics!
In this tour he changed style of many songs in more metal style 'cause his historic producer Guido Elmi that was terminally ill was a huge metalhead. So Vasco with guido decided to take Will Hunt at the drums and great arranger Vince Pastano at guitar
vasco's bands and musicians have always been over-the-top, and as you noticed he's way beyond heavy rock.. BUT: what's most amazing about him is how lyrics and music are "attuned" together. I don't know if simply translating lyrics such as "gli spari sopra" or "c'è chi dice no" would be enough for a non native Italian to deeply understand and appreciate how they are really one thing with the music..anyway I would be glad to help you "interpreting" rather than translating those words! oh by the way..wanna hear a really hard version of "c'è chi dice no"? go for the "rewind tour" live in imola (early '00s)
Con Vasco anni 80 si seguiva con whisky e droga oggi e talmente grande che il suo carisma è musica ti fa sentire bene anche senza sostanze. Praticamente è un BIG. The king
I'm gonna explain you, Vasco always produced Rock music, and if you contextualize his music at the time is been made is always been extravagant, but unfortunately in Italy it is very hard for metal music, that's why many CD versions, or better, the radio versions are much more pop sounding. Of course over the years the metal sound in his songs took over, but if you pay attention this happens only during his concerts, where he can actually express himself. He always picked the best guitarists, you don't choose a metal guitarist for pop music!!
This song is actually a cover of another song called "Celebrate", by the band An Emotional Fish. As a rock fan, you might have heard of them... Besides, the original song says "Celebrate, this party's over", which in Italian, has been translated as "Sorridete, gli spari sopra", because it sounds very much alike if you think about it
Man, check out an Italian singer called IVAN GRAZIANI, he passed away many years ago, but he delivered some really great Rocky stuff...songs as "Monnalisa" "Pigro" "Il chitarrista", are absolutely stunning...try man

Here he changed his old band and was joined by guitarist Andrea braido... A beast. Things started getting more metal after that. Reading this song, this is one of my absolute favourites .. it has the genius verse... " You who are able to keep one foot here and one foot there, you certainly have a future in this society, but where you have lost your dignity?"
this song from Vasco was inspired by "Celebrate" of the "An Emotional Fish", because it thought that "this party's over" a verse of "Celebrate" sounded as "Gli spari sopra" to an italian listener
Back to listening to Vasco after more than 25 years thanks to your reactions
🙏🙏yesss
@@MadAng66 if you accept the suggestion, go to minute 30:00 of this 1987 concert and listen to that groove, that rockin' raw rhythm ans the energy it emanates. that concert explains a lot of the incredible Vasco Rossi's success. Ah... after the 36th minute you will also hear a brief mention of Purple Haze: th-cam.com/video/h_-V8RAG4fo/w-d-xo.html
Love love love....vai ad ascoltare -SIAMO SOLO NOI LIVE...
Vasco in Italy is a "papà" to the Maneskin!
Nah
But where?!?!
Vasco is a Pope
Vasco e il migliore. Sono cresciuto con Le sue canzoni. Grazie kom. X Le emozioni che ci fai vivere.
He once said in an interiew long time ago:
songs are like human beings. First they are born, and then they grow and get developed ... and the growing never stops. Nice metafore :-)
And I think that's the thing he does ... he gives space to his musicians to be creative, pump up and make new versions of songs.
Grande Vasco ,il mio unico mito!💓🎼🤟
Vasco arriva diretto perché i testi delle sue canzoni sono poesie di vita quotidiana ,senza fronzoli un genio ti consiglio di leggere i suoi testi un poeta
Vasco is a great rocker and an immense poet. If you want to listen to "quante volte" and "ridere di te ", Vasco is damned realistic but also deluded and disillusioned, always deep and true. If I can give you some advice, always read the translations of the lyrics of the Italian songs you listen to, because there is so much in the lyrics and it's a shame to miss it.
"Badabadà" cit.
Yeaaahhh!
One of my favs!
I am a big fan of Vasco, I went to many concerts (also in Modena 2017) but I consider the latest studio albums so-so, but the live stuff where you can hear the old songs is just awesome.
little curiosity:
Journalist: Vasco, you don't play any instrument?
Vasco: I play the stadium !!!
Non credo abbia mai adattato nulla a nulla. Anche i Guns n' Roses erano più soft negli album.
toooooooooop performance! Top Song! Top Artist
Next year in may 2022 in Trentino(North region of Italy) Will be a very big event , a concert with more than 80.000 of Vasco's fans , you must come here and go to see !
Vince Pastano Made him more rock with his arrangements. He’s a genius.
Per capire davvero quanto è grande Vasco devi leggere i testi
Il giorno ero presente.. a Roma ❤ uno dei più bei momenti della mia vita 😍
It's nice to see someone who likes Vasco in America too .. Thanks! I recommend "Il mondo che vorrei live Bologna 2008"... I like your video, keep it up!! 🤟🏻🎸
Oh yeah! Go with "Anima fragile" now!
Always updated, always fresh, never same style through the years. That's because he's one of the best
Same songs have lots of different versions
Amazing reaction, thank you so much! If you want to check lyrics in eng it's better... Kisses from Italy!
He did that because his soul is soooo vast!!!! Heavy soft smooth strong... he embraces it all!!
Big love there. ❤️
On may and june 2022 Vasco is going to have some live concerts in Italy...it's time for a vacation Ang we're waiting for you here!! ❤🔥
I love your reaction and question you ask about musicians choices live
What a sound ..thank you!!! You Need to see him in a live show💯💯
Big Mad, do you want to see that you too will become a Vasco Rossi fan? indeed ....... I bet you already are !!!😎🤟🏻
A hug bro🤗
Italy got the top everywhere this year, football, athletics, olimpic games, music😂😂😂😂
CDs are in fact different from the concert, for this reason he also records his live concert and put into a CD album. Live album are sold the most
I love i see all your reaction, saluti from italy
Vasco Rossi e un fantastico poeta grande
I never thoght of Vasco as a hard rock artist. His studio albums are all more soft. I think of him like an artist who writes his songs using an acoustic guitar. At the same time he can perform them harder on stage. Besides this Modena Park concert, he always liked to do few but huge concerts in his tours. And he always liked to have great performers in his band. So I think he organized the tours choosing the "sound" he was feeling in that moment.
Vince Pastano, Vasco second guitar is the musician who rearranges old pieces giving them a more modern, more hard rock key. Style Rock man🤘🤘🤘
You should check "Generale". it's a cover from another italian singer, Francesco De Gregory, but you need to find the lyrics.
Metal Vasco...daje
Yessss
Grande komandante 🤟🤟
And if in order to survive whatever rubbish, you let it happen and say: 'it's not my fault', you don't smile, you shoot at it... just for you...
This song is about Sarajevo and the War. It's a cover, but the message is against violence, indifference, selfishness and hypocricy.
Il testo però è completamente riscritto...
Ole ole ole oleeeee Vasco Vasco....🎸🎸🎸🎸🇮🇹
My mom has been a fan of Vasco since he started, she used to sing me “La favola Antica” when I was little to put me to sleep.
If you ever get a chance to listen to it and read the translation, please do it. It’s more like a story, than a rock song, but I think you would like the lyrics!
We are waiting for you in 2022 tour! You must come, you must experience a Vasco concert, its atmopshere, once in a life at least!
He never, or almost never, play live song as he plays them in studio. One of his best thing... Always new songs 😁😁😁
Iv seen him many times live... In that tour they decided to do some songs more metal, more heavy more rock. Vasco is our hero in Italy my friend
Vasco always differentiate studio by live versions; each concert is different, he made Live album as well; is a particularity of few italian rockers.
"Vita spericolata "
"Colpa di Alfredo"
"Liberi liberi"
"Albachiara"
"Ogni volta "
"Siamo solo noi "
"Ciao"
Vasco va studiato a scuola come poeta contemporaneo
Ho i brividi….. Vascoooooooooo 😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song is actually a cover of another song called "Celebrate", by the band An Emotional Fish. As a rock fan, you might have heard of them...
Besides, the original song says "Celebrate, this party's over", which in Italian, has been translated as "Sorridete, gli spari sopra", because it sounds very much alike if you think about it
Ahhhh finally!!! Thanks!!! ❤❤❤
You are ready for Vasco concert in Italy
Man, check out an Italian singer called IVAN GRAZIANI, he passed away many years ago, but he delivered some really great Rocky stuff...songs as "Monnalisa" "Pigro" "Il chitarrista", are absolutely stunning...try man
