  • How to Make 12V Regulator Using LM7812 IC | Simple Ideas | Javier's DIY
    The ic 7812 is a positive voltage regulator which means that it generates the positive voltage with respect to the common ground. In case if both the positive and negative voltage supply is needed in the same circuit. The voltage regulator ic 7812 is combined with its corresponding 79XX family IC that is 7912 IC. The IC can handle maximum load of 1A to 1.5A but the input current should be 2A to get 1A to 1.5A at the output.
    Component's Needed:
    ° LM7812 IC
    ° 25V 1000uf capacitor
    ° 16V 1500uf capacitor
    ° Heatsink
    ° insulated wires
    ° soldering
    ° 23V powersupply input

      A capacitor of 0.22 uF is recommended at the input and 0.1 uF at the output. This is for stabilization and prevents the voltage regulator from oscillating. The huge electrolytic capacitors here are exaggerated and useless. The voltage regulator is pointless for your use, since it has a 2 V dropout, i.e. to get 12 volts at the output, at least 14 volts must be present at the input. In addition, a voltage regulator, as used here, is not a current limiter.

    cant this circuit use for an input of 12-13v to get an output of 11.8-12v?

    i would like to see 12v batter in and output 3 ~ 5 12v 1-1.5A draw stable low head diagram :D

    Javier, note: if you apply your "device" to power LED, you do it completely wrong. On LED you should supply voltage AT LEAST enough to feed all of 'em, even 200V!! But what you should limit/regulate is CURRENT! Current must be same as LED needs.

      your assertion lacks context. For a LED strip CV is good

    How to fix L7812 ic load time functionality inactivity while device connected on running mode ?
    Query1:
    =====
    I used 12v*2 3000mA with 2 diodes 5408 and 2200uf/35v . Which other capacitor value need to use in the output section of L7812 ic ?
    Query2:
    =======
    My 12v*2 3000mA transformer where i connected 2200uf and 2 diodes 5408 and out shows 16.68 v.
    Then i added L7812 and voltage shows 12v with heatsink .
    But while i charged a lead acid battery then ic gone over heat and this continuty i cheaked got result 16.68v .
    Then i stoped the charging and refresh .
    Again on the switch and voltage shows 12v .
    That neans heating the ic automatically ic is gone inactive .
    In this time if i used any device by this power supply due to over vault connected device will be damaged automatically.
    How can i keep my circuit safe while the output turn 16.68v to 12v while L7812 is inactive due to overheat ?

      I suggest put a bigger heat sink and put also an additional fan so that the temperature will normalize and I asure you that the IC will run in normal condition. Thank you
