Now that Jessica's book is out, we know that this is untrue. He wrote and recorded these songs before she told him she wanted a divorce. He was also doing another reality show at the time showing him recording his new music but she did not want to be part of it.
I bought this album at the time, I knew how emotionally raw it would be since it was after his split with Jessica. Real heartbreak brings out the best songs.
Notice how in the beginning he's in the dark. There are clouds. But towards the end you see the sun and nick is smiling like he's finally happy. He was saying goodbye to the past and being happy again. He was moving on here. He found true love with his wife Vanessa. The song and video is so beautiful. How he was in the darkness and at the end he was in the light. The DAWN!! Wow.
Everyone has that one relationship that scars us. It makes into the person you are meant to become. Speaking from experience, it gets better and you find the person you are meant to be with. :)

I just said goodbye to the person I was in love with for over 3 years and I finally accepted it...2 weeks later I find this song. I'm not even mad or anything. I love the pain it brings back because this song is just amazing and sung by an amazing artist.

To answer your question -- I lost contact with that person for a year back then, reconnected, and ended up falling back in love, dating him on/off for a couple of years and it was the most toxic relationship and he ended up almost leaving me for somebody else. Altogether it took me 10 years to get over him. Now it's 2021 and we're actually very close friends still and even work together. Can be pretty toxic to each other at times but that's only because I finally fell out of love with him and when I did, that's when he had fallen in love with me. But by then it was too late and I didn't want to be with him. This song was definitely helpful to heal some of the pain he had caused through the years which was the original reason I had commented on the post 💙💜

I see comments about this song being for Jessica. All the songs on this album came from that time. You can hear the pain in his heart on all of them. I was never a huge fan of his, but this album really hit home with me as I was going thru the same thing at the time it came out. It seemed at the time he had a window into my life and was writing songs saying everything I wanted to. To this day I can't stand Jessica Simpson. Just the sight of her brings back my own pain. Might not be right or fair but is what it is. I associate her with pain.

I see comments about this song being for Jessica. All the songs on this album came from that time. You can hear the pain in his heart on all of them. I was never a huge fan of his, but this album really hit home with me as I was going thru the same thing at the time it came out. It seemed at the time he had a window into my life and was writing songs saying everything I wanted to. To this day I can't stand Jessica Simpson. Just the sight of her brings back my own pain. Might not be right or fair but is what it is. I associate her with pain.
