She's a beauty! Only comes out the shed a couple of times a year these days. Usually for seed cleaning

Once you pick the weeds up a fire rake is a good tool to bare off the area and clean up the dirt and seeds. Cured a patch of calthrop that way.

You can bet your bottom dollar it will be over 35 degrees every time the seed cleaner comes. Never comes when it’s 21.

We have heaps of nightshade over here Riverina Nsw I hate it but it’s all on the road sides. Livestock spread the berrys if they eat them

Yeah, the old man has traded plenty of livestock over the years, and I think that's how we have ended up with it. Some patches we kill no worries, and others just keep coming back, year after year.

Caltrop was our worst enemy on the farm

Silverleaf nightshade is a perennial with an extensive root system that helps it survive. It can come in stock feed or imported stock. If the patch is more than a couple of plants, it has been there for a couple of seasons. It seems a bit strange but perennial plants are best sprayed after flowering, ie when nutrients are moving down into the roots for survival during dormancy. Certainly, remove flowers and capsules, either chemically or manually to reduce seeding but time the main chemical control after flowering. Most of these “noxious” weeds are really political weeds. Each state needs to nominate “weeds of national significance” to get funding so each state gets money to put up signs and claim they are making a difference when it is really farmers on the ground with good biosecurity that makes the difference. Every plant that decreases production is a significant obstacle so it is much better to concentrate on the common ones through chemicals, rotations and biosecurity (eg. clean seed, feeding in an area easy to monitor, disposing of screenings)

Nice to get that out of the way, I’m sure.
    What is vetch used for?

    • @lockvalleyfarms981

Vetch is grown as a break crop. Its very good at fixing nitrogen into the soil for the next year's wheat crop, which reduces the need for fertiliser. We use it as sheep feed, but it also makes good high protein hay if you wanted to leave it and cut it.

The first battery charger you used are not good for charging very flat batteries. I'm not a fan of them

Good use for a drone, but imagine this, you are sitting eating your breakie and you send your remote air craft equipped with AI and all that technically stuff that already is being used by militaries to fly over all the properties under your care and that aircraft films, livestock and their condition, troughs, water tanks, dams, photographs flora and fauna that AI identifies as a weed or feral animals etc. All without leaving your breakie table.
using that same aircraft at mustering time to circle the area with infrared and heat seeking technologies to locate required animals ie sheep, and identifying goats or roos or pigs as not required.
Or having small drones equipped with AI stationed in sheds that the only job is to harass the birds that come into the sheds, thus keeping $million dollar headers, tractors, trucks etc and the paint work clean of bird droppings, then the same drones are programmed to harass rodents and ferals.
