It caught me off guard because it was so sudden but she was keeping something to herself for weeks, I thought everything was going well and we were not toxic to each other, it was a healthy relationship. She can't imagine our future together. I understand her reason and she was confused about her life too. Maybe in the future if we we're given a chance again. I'd gladly take it.

I'm at university now so tbh I don't think long distance would have been fun nor would we have lasted. All things considered it was a tough decision but one I'm glad I went through with. :)

2 years later since my breakup and I only now got the explanation last month. I just wanted to say thank you Domics because I watched this 2 years ago, which you had posted like a week after it had happened literally the day that you had posted this, just a few days after her birthday. I got contacted from my ex about a month ago and she (sort of) explained what went wrong. It wasn't a full explanation nor something I had hoped to hear. She tried to casually talk to me, but I still don't feel like I got the answer I had hoped.
I just wanted to say thank you because watching this video helped me just open my eyes about relationships afterwards. I really did feel like not going to anyone else for a future relationship because of how hard it struck me and for it to be my first relationship as well. I really loved her and I just don't think my love for her was as much as she had loved me. The relationship still scars me to this day, but this video really was the start towards an early recovery and helped me overcome at least for the second half of the school year as I had been able to barely stay afloat in terms of grades during that year.

Not breaking up with someone because you're comfy or because you don't want to hurt them can actually be super damaging, too. If you're putting on an act for your significant other, once you finally can't do it any more and break up it's going to be a huge shock to them. They won't have seen it coming, and they might have spent all that extra time together getting more and more attached to you. That breakup would have been easier on them if you'd just done it right away. The longer you spend together, even if on your end it's fake, the harder it will be to separate. Idk, just something I went through with my last breakup and it's comforting to drop comments about it.

Maybe as someone that’s been with a boyfriend for now 4 years I can give a little perspective. First, is it possible you suffer from mental illness and don’t recognize it? Not saying that this is the main answer: this is just something that can alter your perception both of yourself and other people. It can change how you view relationships, conversations, etc. I have been with my DBF for 4 years, and occasionally I get this way - but I have MD and other mental issues. Also, I think, like Dom mentioned: sometimes we get into a relationship and expect it to be like a fairy tale 24:7 and when it’s not, we kind of begin to question it like “do I really like this person? Are they good enough? Could I do better?” Etc etc. We, as people need to forget these expectations we hold over others. I love my boyfriend, but sometimes I really want him to leave me alone and go away and stop touching me. It’s just how I feel sometimes. But then I also remember what life was like when I WAS by myself and that wasn’t too great either. Do I want to imagine a life without him? No. So I think that’s a real important question to ask yourself. Can I see myself without this person in my life? I would hope the answer is no. If the answer is yes: then it may be time to call it quits and end the relationship out of respect for them.
The last sentence where you said “I don’t deserve him if my feelings are slipping” makes me feel like this is more of a mental “you” thing (insecurity) than a problem within your relationship.

This actually happened with me and my ex. It felt like we didn’t actually communicate besides texting and that we went into the relationship too fast. We also didn’t share that much in interests or humor so it was usually awkward with conversations, especially with weird questions. Not me rewatching all Domics’ videos about breakup two days after breaking off a 5 year long relationship. For some reason, it’s making me feel better.
I dated a guy for 3 yrs and he even planned on proposing to me eariler this year(things came up in both our lives so it had to be put on hold)... Until September when everything came crashing down, not only in my relationship but with life in general. He was at my house for 2 days acting like everything was perfectly fine between us, we did all the usual stuff we normally would do when he was over and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The night he left for "work" I get get a message from his number saying we were through and got blocked on everthing... 2 days later I come to find out that he had been cheating on me for over a month and it was his new girl that sent me the message... He didnt even have the balls to break up with me himself... Then this girl starts messaging me out of no where threatening to file harrasment charges against me and called me a crazy bitch and forbid me from ever talking to him again even though I literally never said anything to her and didnt even know who she was(and I'm apparently the crazy one). They made his mom come get his stuff from my house and it broke my heart because she was crying and angry with him and apparently he has gotten so bad and into so much trouble with her that even his own mom was cutting him out of her life... Not to mention I just found out not too long ago that he got her pregnant while we were still dating... I'm done with dating for at least another 3 yrs... After all the bs thats gone on in my life this year its about time I just took a break and focused on myself.

My ex (we're together again) broke up with me the same way that Dom's ex did. Didn't get any explaination, and she ended things abruptly. About 2-3 months after the breakup I got my answers to the large mass of questions that were unanswered. I got really suicidal, not just because of the breakup, but the past really came up to me and the breakup was the last straw. After this 2-3 month period, we started hanging out again and we both realised our mistakes and worked them out and we both realised that the other person is really important for us. Now we are together again, going stronger than ever because we are more understanding with eachother and talk about our problems. Just so you know, a breakup isn't necessarily the end with that person. Maybe you will meet after a few months or even years and rekindle the relationship. (Don't forgive cheating. Once a cheater, always a cheater)
That is lovely! This only works if both parties are growing together and improving themselves as they give it another try. I used to do that with my previous relationship. It dragged on for 4 yrs. At some point I thought we were gonna be down for the long haul. Turns out that wasn't the case. I continued to grow and realize communication is super important. He grew a bit... then went back to his old ways of breaking promises and not making time for me. It just felt like I was putting in so much effort and he wasn't. It was a one man war. So i ended it. It sucked, it hurt but it was needed because we never grew together since day 1. Its been 2-3 yrs since we broke up. I moved on finally dating someone who makes it feels effortless. I don't see myself dating him again but I'm glad I gave it a few shots to realize it really wasn't fixable.
@@awkwardyellowpanda430 Yeah well, we aren't together anymore because of her parents. It was literally a Romeo and Juliet scenario and we had to end it in september. Now I found someone who's parents actually like me and communication actually works. She really makes me feel loved and appreciated and I try to make her feel the same.

just be sure not to rely 100% on one person to vent your mental health issues, it could make the other person feel obligated to stay in a relationship because their afraid their partner may self-harm. Happened to me once, but he's still alive now, he talked to his family instead of only me, and I believe he's better off now then when I dated him
4:15 I feel this so hard// it hurts so bad// but for all of you going through stuff ,, it gets better, you may not see it now, maybe not even in a year, but it does get better. You just need to look out for the opportunities to make it that way! It still hasn’t gotten better for me, but I know someday it will, and I’m growing more as a person than anything else!

I feel like you posted this video at an appropriate time given the situation I've been in as of late. The situation's resolved itself so its all good, but I found myself thinking back on it and wondering, "I could've handled it in an a lot better way." I feel like this video addressed those issues and hit them right on the head; its something that would've worked out in my favor back then... Either way, I'm grateful for the advice you offer; I feel as if its bound to save me in the long run. You're a great person, Dom. I feel like I have wanted to express my gratitude for quite a while now but haven't until now. Your videos have gotten me through dark times and this video is no exception. For the rest, except for the animated part in which dom is, rewind has been completely boring and nonsense in my opinion

I broke up with my boyfriend recently, and I actually watched this video *after* breaking up with him. Kinda makes me feel better about what I did though. We were fueled mainly on emotion so when it came to our morals and opinions on *big topics*, we just could not seem to agree or even compromise. I tried to ignore that for a while, and we just wouldn't talk about those things, but when he brought it up to me a couple weeks ago with a specific target in mind (which happened to be *my sister*), I was like "uh nope we done." It was really really hard since we had been together for a year and a half. But once I was done moping and crying about it, I realized that it just had to be done. If I knew it wouldn't work out in the long run, there was no point in me continuing that relationship.
So thanks, Dom, for encouraging me that I did the right thing by ending it.
