Dear Paige, I love how you use hard copies and pens and highlighters to study. Makes me nostalgic when I was smarter, keener and eager to study, quick to grasp concepts. Now I don't know why, nothing motivates me. I feel like you should be a teacher. You'd be in your element. Teaching, following routines, make lesson plan!

I remember when I took my first few actuarial exams during uni. I didn't enjoy them very much. I made the switch to software engineering, being an actuary wasn't a good fit for me. You seem like you love it. Here's to passing marks on your future exams with no retakes! Cheers!

SOA Exam P is very similar but IFOA UK Exams is more harder .
@@samukings3138 IFOA exams are slightly harder, but it doesn't really make a difference unless if you're a borderline candidate. Both curriculums are of high quality, so who cares which one is more difficult? Both societies grant exemptions for various exams.

my SOA Exam P is in 1 week and it’s been so fun watching all of your videos! I’m in the US so I’m not too sure how things are different there. I log all of my study hours too and my goal is 300hours for the exam. It’s my first exam so I’ve learned a lot of studying techniques I’ve had to pick up along the way. It’s SO nice that your company is paying for your materials! They definitely add up but the ones I’ve invested in have saved me😅
good luck with R, i’m a psychology student and it’s what my uni uses instead of SPSS and it’s pretty tricky to wrap your head around 🥴
I am in university and I have programmed with R for a course in stasis. I swear it is very simple, just have the necessary cheatsheets on hand when you progress through difficulty.

Also I was wondering, since the place you work for pays for your exams and study materials, are you obligated to keep working for them after you hopefully pass all the exams? Hope it isn't anything confidential! Lots of love.
I can't speak for Paige's employer but requiring people to stay after they pass all the exams is not standard practice. Normally people get a raise with each exam and a big raise (and probably a bonus as well) when they make Fellow but there is no requirement that they don't change jobs when they pass.
You can change employer whilst you're still studying. Usually the employer will ask for a refund for materials used in the past 12months. But the when you jump to the new company they will reimburse you. So kinda balances out
@@Samonomics Never had anyone ask for a refund for study materials or exam fees. I changed employers just before my final exam and wasn't even asked for a refund of anything.
@@samadams1408 happens at my company wesleyan and when I worked at aviva too. Its not a full refund though, its like the last years worth of study material
@@Samonomics Interesting because I took my first actuarial job in 1980 and I've never seen anyone request a refund for study materials or exam fees (and that applied to me in my student days and anyone I hired when made it to that level). The only time I've ever seen a request for reimbursement was for relocation expenses - we hired someone from another company and they had just relocated him to an office near ours.

Never searched for an actuarial video yet youtube recommends me this when I'm studying 12 hrs a day for CAS Exam 6 in 2 weeks lol. Good luck and practice those study skills, it's a long battle.
I study maths at university and am actually doing a module on statistical inference where we use R for computations. It would be fun to hear you explain how to apply the topics to actuarial stuff :)

Hi Paige! Just discovered your channel and I just wanted to say how much I love your personality and videos. I do wonder though, whether you have a video where you talk about actually learning content and how you do it? I graduated uni a few years ago and I'm currently undertaking an anti-money laundering course, but I'm finding it difficult to even make notes. I feel like my brain is so wired to do practical things because of work life, so I'm just struggling a bit here. Thank you for the great content!

Hey paige, In CS1 I'd say try to divide the whole syllabus as a cluster of groups, ch1,2 being the basics, ch 3,4 are quite interlinked, ch5 will build the basics for ch8,9( CI and Hypotheses) then ch6,10 are quite similar being revolved around sample distributions. After that ch13,14,15 are all based on the same concpepts(Bayesian stats) and ch11 and 12 are bit similar being based in linear models

Cs1 is going to be alright I would say, as it's relatively easy compared to other actuarial papers.

I don't know if you have already bought it, but there are additional resources that you need to purchase for R. So purchase Paper B Online Resources before you start with the R programming part

I'm revising for A Levels atm and was wondering if you could explain your highlighting system, think it would be really helpful :) I tend to just pick whichever colour is nearest and use it for everything but looks like you have an ordered system that works well.

@@_danila5185 Hey! I just gave the paper this April attempt and for CS1 I'd advice to take course notes from IFOA itself. For preparation a month before exam, just go through past papers and solve as many as you can. The type of questions asked in CS1 are very similar to that of their notes so you don't need to look elsewhere for it. Good luck! And if you need any help, you can reach out anytime :)

I actually just alternate between the colours to split out separate points, sometimes I have a temporary system like highlight all probability distribution functions in pink, but I have no set over-arching system! I highlight primarily because it forces me to understand what I am reading and pick out the key points
