Rudy took his profession very seriously. He went behind the cameras and learned the way things worked. You can see in some footage he is working with the Directors and Cemeramen. He wasn't just an Actor/Dancer with a beautiful face and a great physique. He was a lot more intelligent and inquisitive by nature. More educated than most stories would have you believe. He had many hobbies and did them well. This man was not a "skirt chaser"! He loved women but it appeared that he was looling for a loving long term relationship , marriage and children! His choice in wives was not too smart or helpful to him. He married the first wife Jean because of ther " nice " friendship and lonliness on both parties. He really wanted to try to make it work! He seemed oblivious of the fact that she used him to cover up her "Lesbian" relationships! Natacha his 2nd wife was a "career woman" which in those days was quite unusual. She was amart but vain and controlling Lady wbo interfered with his career and alienated many of his friends, work colleagues and the Studios. He really needed a softer "Old Fashioned type of Girl who would cater to his needs stay home and have his children!! But he also seemed to be drawn to clever domineering Women who used his fame to help their careers. They used him. What a shame he was never happy. He loved women and they loved him. I, for some reason, cannot stop watching these videos of Rudy. I have always known of him and acknowledged that he was a very charismatic man, but I am trying to understand why I am having this obsession with him now. I am 67 years old. I look at him in some of these clips and want to explode. Why? What has brought me to this? Can someone explain?
I don't know what it is about Rudy. But I am doing the same thing! I am so in love with gorgeous man! It's an obsession! But in a good harmless obsession! Perhaps he fulfills our fantasies? He has all the qualities that most men lack today. Perhaps it's also that he doesn't seem like he is acting a part he seems very real. For me he is a sweet, gentle beautiful man. Elissa, I am seeing this now, for some reason. If I read it before, I don't remember. Please excuse me. I would have replied earlier. Yes, Rudy fulfills my daydreams and fantasies. Why, I will never know. I have known of him since I was a young girl, but I had never seen any of his movies. I never even saw many of his photos. And when I was younger, I was so involved with so many other aspects of my life that I did not give him a second thought. But, now that I am much, much older, I can fully understand the fascination. It seems as though he jumps out and grabs you. He really does have a magnetic personality. I find him to be the most beautiful, gracious, gentlemanly, charismatic, charming, and sexiest man in the world. I know there are others that may be more handsome than him physically, but he had the whole package. He was all those things I described in one human being. I haven't met anyone or seen any other that has equaled that. And yes, you are so right when you say that he did not need a voice to capture our hearts and not let go. Many many years ago my Maternal Grand Mother used to play the piano in the old movie theatres in London. Accompanying the silent movies! When Rudy came on the screen apparently she was so mesmorised by him that she would stop playing. And it's absolutely true that he had an amazing effect on the Ladies!! She and her Sister in law saw him over and over again on many nights. So it's very true that he had the Ladies sometimes fainting in the cinemas. They had never seen anyone like him before. No wonder the men felt threatened ny him! I do believe he was a very lovely person and considering he was so gorgeous he apparently was a modest man who wanted to learn more about films and one day become a director as well as an actor........ Hello Elissa, thank you for your lovely response. I only wish there were more film clips and pictures we, as fans, have never seen before. Something new to tickle our fancy! Wouldn't that be wonderful? That story about your grandmother is amazing. You got her feelings first hand! My grandmother (who was born and raised in Puerto Rico) used to talk to my mother about him. And my mom told me about him decades ago, when I was a young girl. That resonates with me now. I recall a documentary that was aired on television at about the time I was 14 or 15 years old. But, it's like I mentioned before, I was young and I had so many other things going on. I also admired actors of my time. Rudy had been gone nearly 50 years. BUT, I think that if I would have seen the pictures and/or the film clips I am seeing recently, I would have had second thoughts and pursued him more. He was so magnetic and his charisma oozed through his movies and photos. Not every celebrity has that. In fact, I cannot think of any other that has made me feel like he has. And, yes, it was a shame to lose him the way he went. He was so young, with all his life ahead of him. But, it was not to be. I feel that is part of everyone's fascination with him too. We never saw an old Rudy. He did not want to die an old man. Sometimes, you cannot verbalize what you want, because it can come true. I am testimony to that, but that is a story for another day. You may have known him in the 1920s .maybe in another life. Utube has given us the ability to see so much of him. We are so fortunate That his movies survive. I wish I could see all of them. When 300,000.00 people came to see him when in hospital and later after he passed alot of people were so affected by his death. I read his x wife book. She claims to have had contact with him .I have studied ALOT of material on NDES and I am seeing alot of what she said that he was experience is what we know now about life after death. We are all immortal. He can't lose any qualities that he had.

He also left it too late .... fear of being seen as a wimp and also a cultural fear of hospitals that was instilled in him as a Southern Italian. According to a friend whom I knew years ago, whose mother worked in hollywood during those years, Rudolph wore lots of makeup in his films and he work a hair piece because he had begun to go bald at an early age. Thus, his looks were make-believe considering the makeup and foundation he wore. Otherwise, according to my friend, Valentino was dark complected and looked very much exotic, more like a Spaniard than an italian.
His bald spot is visible in the very last scene of The Eagle! He stated that he had to be careful about going out in the sun because he would get so dark that "I would look like a Negro."

He also left it too late .... fear of being seen as a wimp and also a cultural fear of hospitals that was instilled in him as a Southern Italian. It was thought by Southern Italians at that time if you went to hospital you would never come out again ... that could have been to awful treatments and facilities back in the day.

According to a friend whom I knew years ago, whose mother worked in hollywood during those years, Rudolph wore lots of makeup in his films and he work a hair piece because he had begun to go bald at an early age. Thus, his looks were make-believe considering the makeup and foundation he wore. Otherwise, according to my friend, Valentino was dark complected and looked very much exotic, more like a Spaniard than an italian.
His bald spot is visible in the very last scene of The Eagle! He stated that he had to be careful about going out in the sun because he would get so dark that "I would look like a Negro."
